Another year, another Mickey Mouse anniversary pic, and since this year marks the 90th anniversary of "The Band Concert", I figured "Eh, why not?"

It is an interesting transitional piece in the mouse's career, not only marking his first full film in color, but also the final main staring roles for his previously black-and-white co-stars Horace Horsecollar and Clarabelle Cow both of whom would be limited to cameos in future cartoons. Meanwhile two then-newcomers named Donald Duck and Goofy also appearing in this short would not only become Mickey's main co-stars but leading stars in their own right in just a few years.

"The Band Concert" is considered by many animation historians to be the greatest Mickey Mouse cartoon ever. I don't think I would go that far, but it's still pretty dang great. A good mixture of classical music (introducing multiple generations to the works of William Tell), zany gags and one hell of a finale as the entire band is swept up in a tornado, however Mickey is so caught up in his conducting that he never seems to notice the natural disaster happening around him. Now there's a guy dedicated to his art!

Happy 97th Birthday Mickey Mouse, and a Happy 90th to "The Band Concert"! In just 5 more years, we'll be seeing a ton of poorly made B-horror movies based on you too! Tick-tock.

I wanted to make an appreciation post for my favorite Disney character that is celebrating his birthday today and the sequel to my favorite video game that is celebrating its anniversary today ^^ Despite the sequel having flaws, I still appreciate the game’s effort and the animation for the cutscenes are peak. So I went in and doodled some of the characters in the game in doodle form as well. I really love and appreciate Walt’s second creation being a mouse in despite the loss of the rabbit in 1928, and I still don’t think anyone but the true oswald fans know that It didn’t start with a mouse. Even if the mouse had ups and downs in the past, and even now with the internet having a hatred towards a corporate mascot, he deserves so much love and not hate. Since it’s his birthday it’ll mark 15 years since he came to Wasteland!
