@fallingdeeperintothispit inspired me to expand upon this so here’s a little sneak peek of what I’ve been cooking up below! I’m hoping to have it completed by the weekend. This is 100% cracky, so proceed at your own risk.

"Alright, we'll revisit that later," Hux says, turning on his heel and grabbing his datapad from the table. "What were you saying about the Supreme Leader? Did I miss an urgent communique?"

No high-priority notifications or meeting requests are waiting for him when the screen powers on. Still, it does look like a new episode of his favorite holodrama, Regulation's Anatomy, is now available to watch. He files that information away for later and sets the datapad back down.

When he turns back to face the Force user, the sight he's greeted by is terrifying. Ren is closer than he was previously, so close that Hux has to stop in his tracks to avoid colliding with his solid chest (is that vegetable oil?). Ren's eyes are closed and his lips are puckered; both of his fists are clenched at his sides and - oh no, is he leaning in??

Hux ducks out of the way while gagging loudly, causing Ren to flail forward and crash into the low table. Surprisingly, the serving of wine and the second cigara waiting for Hux on the meal tray survive the brutal assault.

"Kylo Ren, you better explain yourself right this instant."

Hux has to get a handle on his rage before he starts to act feral.

No, seriously, he was beginning to shake and foam at the mouth. He really should have gotten that random bite checked out by the medics after his most recent trip off the ship.

so much could have been improved in the sequels if kylo ren hadn’t been force sensitive

no wait think about it. kylo ren not being force sensitive, but so desperate to be so he’s willing to do anything. he feels cheated out of his grand destiny, his powers that his mother and uncle (and cousin?) have. give me the story on the entitlement towards the force. it would have shown that the force is beyond biological, it always has been. it would have given a better reason for kylo ren to “fall to the dark side”, so desperate for a connection to the force that he plays the part of a dark sider, swinging a cracking red lightsaber around with no finesse or training, killing hoping that it will push him further into a dark side of the force he cannot feel. it would have given a reason for him to hate han; that because han isn’t force sensitive, it’s his fault that kylo isn’t either. kylo’s character would have been stronger because his choices would have been his own, instead of whatever whisper dream manipulations they were in canon. his evil has nothing to do with the force, but an entitled man trying to claim a power he believes is his by birthright.

this would have foiled perfectly with finn, too- one is a child born to the most powerful force sensitives in the galaxy who cannot feel the force. and finn is a child who was taken from his family, forced into soldier-hood, who feels such a deep and powerful connection to himself and the force that he breaks free. kylo ren, seething and entitled trying to claim a destiny and power that just aren’t his, and finn, who has suffered at kylo’s actions and still connected to the powerful light inside of him. the “nobody” hero of the sequels who has the power of the force and the legacy-born villain who doesn’t.

It would fit with Kylo's character in the first two films as well where he's basically a pathetic manchild edge-lord desperately doing space fascist-cosplay because he wants to feel important and powerful if it turns out that he wasn't "corrupted" by anything...the dark side didn't influence him at all, he's just deliberately choosing to be a monster because he WANTS to dark side to corrupt him further

kylo, always angry and swinging his saber around but so EMPTY of his destiny, so lost and alone with these expectations of who he's supposed to be, angry at Han for cursing him with this fate

and then Hux, so entirely blind and impotent in the force and PROUD of it, convinced it's just empty tricks that are nothing in terms of real strength

and maybe, just maybe, in the smallest part of Kylo's heart, he starts to find a small amount of compainionship there, in someone who hates the force and despises him for loving it, because Hux doesn't care about his fancy tricks, and he doesn't care about Vader

and then they fall in love and are terrible monsters together <3
