💖✨️💛 Notes from Mammon's route 💛✨️💖

Chapter 2

[Enough time has passed and the gameplay is available in my blog, so I can talk about this now, right? ... Anyway, these are some details I noticed or relevant information that I thought interesting from Mammon's story in Obey me: 'Till death do us part]

⚠️ SPOILERS AHEAD:

1. Apparently, Mammon and MC are very loving to each other and flirt a lot to the point that it annoys the brothers. Mammon has surprised his brothers with how romantic he can be.

2. Mammon and MC have had lots of engagement parties, lol.

3. Mammon can be hardworking when he (we) needs to. Even Lucifer acknowledged this.

4. Solomon, you bitter much? (He's not wrong, though).

5. Mammon is impulsive! He quickly took financial decisions that were ridiculous (like a 14 layer wedding cake and expensive security?! Excuse me sir, wtf?!) + he arranged everything so he could marry us/MC one to two days after the incidents.

6. We're introduced to the main villain quickly. Lucifer gave us a Devildom history lesson as well.

7. The fact that the main villain's name is "Ares Mortalis". "Ares" like the greek god of war. Does that mean that in the Obey me! universe, the greek gods are demons too? It'd make sense biblically speaking.

8. Didn't I mention that Mammon's job / shady businesses could be an issue? [Part 1, point 4].

9. Cultural differences and morals between humans and demons are very present through the story, especially in Ep. 4 / Ep. 5 and Ep. 9. These even become a point of tension between Mammon and MC.

10. However, Mammon is willing to stay away of his shady businesses to keep peace and make MC happy.

11. "Honesty" becomes a boundary between Mammon & MC, meaning that they agree to always tell each other everything.

12. "Those eyes, that will, that... BODY". We feel you, Ares! Don't we sheeps?

13. All of the brothers were invoked by Ares into the fight club arena. This means that the villain is incredibly powerful to invoke them without a pact and command them to fight against Mammon even overriding MC's pacts.

14. While Mammon faces all of his little brothers, none of them wanted to actually fight, especially Mammon himself, but they were commanded to do so by Ares.

However, one of the most important parts (personally) is that it's finally acknowledged why Mammon is the second born after he defeated all of his younger brothers very quickly and at the same time. He even knocks Levi (the 3rd strongest) out. Truly the 2nd strongest!

15. On that note, Lucifer and Mammon are always in sync. Once Lucifer was invoked to the fight ring, he and Mammon knew what to do to free themselves from the cage without letting the enemy know. I think this speaks volumes of the kind of relationship they have.

16. Although I have to say, for me, the fighting scenes were overall confusing since a lot depends on the reader's imagination.

17. Mammon is stronger when motivated by MC's wellbeing and/or love.

18. Mammon & MC's powers combined made them stronger than a god!!

19. Diavolo officiated Mammon & MC's wedding ceremony. Isn't that cute?

"Good morning, Barbatos!"

The butler eyed you wearily as you approached him with a happy-go-lucky grin. Your begging had not relented for days, and he knew it would surely continue. Standing in a silent corner of the library surrounded by old shelves clearly wasn't enough to evade you, and he made a mental note to find a better hiding space in the future.

"Do you think you can send me to London?" you asked.

He shook his head. The documents in his hand were set down on a nearby shelf. "As I explained yesterday, and the day before, you cannot cross between worlds so freely. First and foremost, a worthy reason is needed."

"My reason is worthy," you explained for the tenth time that week. "My favorite band is on tour. It's a super special concert. Could be their last one! You never know!"

Barbatos gave you an exhausted look. It was the same one he'd given you three days ago. The man had the patience of an angel when it came to you and your silly requests that he legally couldn't grant.

You pressed on. "If I can't go to London this week, what about Beijing next week? I'm pretty sure that's the next stop, after Europe. You can come along, we'll buy matching band shirts and we can split a plate of overpriced fried food before the show starts."

There was a hint of a smirk on Barbatos' face, but he was having none of it. "Perhaps you can order a DVD of the concert after it ends, then you can enjoy it whenever you want, without crossing worlds." He picked up his documents once more, signalling this discussion was over, and began pouring over their contents. The text was so tiny it made your eyes spin.

A DVD was no fun. You wanted to see the band live. Time was running out, you needed a new plan.

This next tactic had an 87% success rate when you used it on the brothers. Although it was embarrassing and you had to make absolutely sure nobody else was around, you were confident in its persuasive ability.

You pressed your forehead against the quilted sleeve of Barbatos' uniform, immediately stealing his attention back. The report did not budge from in front of his face, yet vigilant green irises watched your every move.

One hand lightly pulled at the fabric of his front lapel. One hand was balled up over the small of his back. You could feel the minute changes in his posture as the demon adjusted to your touch. In a quiet, wavering plea, as you burrowed your forehead into the soft, detergent-scented fabric of his uniform, you begged, "Barbatos, please?"

It was tempting. So very tempting to give in and grant your silly little wish. It would be a breeze for someone as powerful as him.

Barbatos allowed himself to enjoy the warmth of your close company and the desire in your voice. He wiggled his arm free to pat your head and run a hand down your soft cheek, then tilted your face upwards until you could smell the morning tea on his breath. You swallowed your next plea, so sure that your request would be granted. The lump in your throat bumped against Barbatos' finger on the way down. He could surely feel your heartbeat speed up against his arm, full of anticipation.

Instead, the demon whispered in your ear, "You should go. You're going to be late for class," and broke free of your measly grip. He swiftly disappeared behind a shelf. You knew he would be gone if you tried to chase him. His warmth lingered on your forehead.

If Barbatos could fall for temptation so easily, he would be ashamed to call himself a royal butler.

i know we all like to make jokes about how we love mammon just because we’re attracted to dumbasses, and i won’t deny that the initial reason i fell in love with him is because i love dumbass characters so much. and i’m not going to pretend that he’s super well developed when his character has mostly been used for laughs (although i WILL say he’s far from being the only one, with levi and asmo serving a similar purpose), but. there’s a little more to him that’s kept me as smitten with him as i am.

there’s something about him being the avatar of greed, and how his greed manifests in such a way that you yourself become a source of his greed. i mean, i don’t think this needs to be elaborated on much, but he’s constantly shown to be greedy for mc’s attention in various ways over the course of the game. throwback to lesson 12-c, when mammon’s attachment to mc is being outright discussed by diavolo, barbatos, and lucifer. (which, for the record, i find interesting that it is consistently mammon’s affection for mc being pointed out by others, and rarely in comparison do we see the other brothers having their affections for mc be commented on.) barbatos says verbatim “i must say, it’s strange to see him showing such attachment toward someone for a reason that doesn’t involve money, isn’t it?”

not only are you a source of his greed, but he’s shown to choose you over his greed for material wealth. in lesson 4-a, when he’s rummaging through mc’s room, beel straight up calls him out by saying that mammon isn’t actually going to sell any of mc’s things. mammon, of course, tries to argue but there isn’t really anything to indicate that beel’s wrong here. (in fact, it’s implied that mammon is snooping through mc’s things because he likes them, further indicating a sense of greed on his part to become closer to mc by familiarizing himself with their belongings.) this is obviously significant due to the fact that mammon is not depicted to have any qualms with stealing from his brothers. but in this situation, he chooses to prioritize mc over the opportunity to make a quick buck, even if he isn’t willing to admit it. a similar scenario plays out in lesson 18 when he gives mc a gift (which he bought with money he worked for), something that very specifically defies his stereotypical greedy behavior.

also, i want to point out that there have been times when he arguably seems to be the most openly affectionate, even if it’s in a backwards tsundere way. in lessons 7 and 8, he’s the one who complains about asmo getting to share a room with mc, he’s the one who wants to be grouped with mc for the scavenger hunt, and he’s the one who tries to approach mc for a dance. (yes, lucifer steals mc away for a dance, but the dance is an excuse for him to interrogate mc.) i feel it’s important to note that at this point, both levi and beel have pacts with mc and are shown to have formed a connection with mc, yet mammon is still the only one so blatant about his feelings. this admittedly gets challenged in more recent lessons, in which all of the characters are shown more explicitly to be vying for mc’s attention. that being said, i still think it’s worth noting that for a significant portion of the game it seems like mammon is the one shown to most actively take an interest in mc.

while i’m at it, let’s take a moment to consider lesson 12-19, in which lucifer prepares to attack mc for sneaking behind his back to meet belphie. lucifer tells his brothers to get out of the way so he can “tear that human limb from limb”. immediately, mammon is the one to say “we’re not about to let you do somethin’ like that!” now, mammon’s relationship with lucifer isn’t necessarily super consistent, as mammon is shown to not really flinch from doing things that piss lucifer off. however, mammon being fearful of lucifer punishing him is a thing that is established literally from the moment mc meets him. and in this moment, we’re talking about lucifer being out of control and turning full demon form. in spite of what must be a terrifying situation for mammon to step into, he puts himself at risk for mc’s sake without hesitation, without the floundering that he often displays when he knows he’s in trouble. and let’s not forget lesson 16-12, in which it is specifically mammon who is shown to hold mc in his arms while they’re dying. this is an emotionally charged scene, and so the choice to have mammon take on such a role seems significant. these two scenes both depict something that heavily borders on devotion, a devotion that goes beyond having made a pact.

my final point is probably the most subjective. as mammon would say, he’s mc’s “first guy”. this of course does not entitle him to mc’s affection, but do i find it charming anyway? hell yes. mammon is the first to develop feelings for mc, and frankly, that alone makes me soft for him. maybe it’s a matter of circumstance, due to lucifer assigning mammon to “babysitter” duty at the beginning of the game, and so maybe it could have been any of the other brothers in his place if things had been a bit different. but ultimately? it‘s mammon who comes to care for mc first, and that warms my heart regardless of any technicality. so as i’ve been attempting to articulate, while mammon’s character does frequently revolve around him being The Idiot, there are other aspects of his which give him plenty of potential to be a genuinely compelling character. and i will die on this hill.

And I have a small addition that makes Mammon even better. During one scene from hard level, when MC is in the past, Mammon shows that - despite everyone is worried - he's probably the only one who paid enough close attention to MC to really grasp the danger the MC is in.

He specifically mentions that MC's only apparently having it together, and points out their recklessness and tendency to get themselves in deadly trouble. Something that shows how attentive he has been despite his tsun attitude.

Fluffy Headcannons 2

No I do not intend to ever spell Headcannon correctly because the "correct" way isn't accurate. I am firing these out like a damn Cannon so that's how I'm gonna spell it.

The brothers are all constantly listening for their other siblings heartbeat even from far away because demon hearing. Their heartbeats even sync up sometimes but it never lasts long, it also scares the shit out of Lucifer because he can't tell who's where.

Mammon hand-makes most of his siblings presents. Lucifer has most of his crafts from Mammon on display in his office, even the bad ones.

Leviathan regularly comes out of his room to feed Satan's cats. He knows his brothers get concerned if he's in there too long and playing with kittens is a good excuse to go out.

Asmo and Mammon try taking Levi to smaller parties just to get him out more, they always make sure he has his headphones and is ok throughout the party.

Satan once made Lucifer a father's day cake. Note; Satan cut the slice for Lucifer so the icing said "Fat", otherwise it was a very sweet gesture.

Lucifer once responded to Micheal's letters and the next day he was met with a flood of them. He never responded again but still reads every letter.

Diavolo and Simeon have a photo of Lucifer lying on the floor and all the brothers asleep on top of him.

Belphegor stayed awake for hours to write a better apology for Mc since he knew the first one wasn't good. He fell asleep mid way through but the effort to do so was sweet. Beel showed Mc all of Belphe's rough drafts so they could understand that Belphe did feel bad.

Simeon and Luke sometimes send Barbatos cookies when they're away in the Celestial Realm.

Solomon once kidnapped Mc so he could celebrate their birthday with him and the others in purgatory hall.

Asmo sometimes sends Barbatos teas that are trending if he can get a hold of them since Barbatos might be to busy to grab some before they go out of stock.

Solomon and Mc have worked together to get Lucifer involved in their dumb shit. He usually just sits in the corner working while Mc and Solomon conduct their magic experiments.

Diavolo has a collection of plushies, of his favourites there's a peacock that reminds him of Lucifer and a sheep that reminds him of Mc.

Lucifer has been teaching Luke the demonic language so Luke can make friends with demon kids his age. Simeon is also picking up on it.

There are some spots in the House of Lamentation that are too much for a human. Too scary. Too cursed. You instinctively avoid them, and feel an overwhelming distaste on the rare occasions you have to go near them.

Some corridors of the underground crypt make your skin crawl. Even Mammon refuses to walk through them. They're straight up haunted.

You avoid looking at some of the portraits in the stairwell. You can feel their eyes following you up and down the steps. Their mouths move but the sound is so quiet, they try to lure you in with secrets you shouldn't know about.

There's one chair that always makes you dizzy. People drag it around the house and use it for various purposes so you never know where it will end up. Sometimes it's in the living room when company is coming over. Sometimes it's propping the back door open to air out the house. You wonder if someone was once tortured in that chair.

Worst of all is the music room in the days leading up to a concert. The brothers use it for practice. Jaunty melodies drift through the house, you can hear them muffled through the walls. The singing isn't inherently bad. You just take special care to avoid it after The Incident.

It was one fateful evening when you happened to stop by the music room on your way to get a drink from the kitchen. Lucifer was there. Practicing. Flapping his legs in an utterly promiscuous manner, snapping his hips, moving in ways you didn't even know were possible. The devil had descended in front of you. You thought his joints would pop. You couldn't tear your eyes away. The sight left you unable to sleep and you never dared to bring it up in conversation.

It was all a bad dream, you convinced yourself. It couldn't be real.

And then you attended their concert.
