Fall in Langya

Our fandom is steadily growing. We want to help us get to know each other better and create different ways to participate. Inspired by similar events in other fandoms, we present to you our Fall in Langya event.

This event will be run on Tumblr and Dreamwidth simultaneously.

How to participate?

Reblog this post to spread the word.

Send us an ask on tumblr or answer this post on Dreamwidth to confirm your participation in the event. We need the name of your account (blog, side-blog or Dreamwidth journal), and eventually if you have DNW (only shared with the person paired with you). Mods will contact you to tell you your participation is registered.

To participate on Tumblr, you must allow anonymous asks. To participate on Dreamwidth, you  must set up a post designated for the event where your partner can leave their anonymous comments. Your blog/journal must be visible even without an account.

We may pair you with someone from the other platform, unless you specifically request we do not do so in your registration.

The event will take place from September 15th to October 15th, make sure you have the time to participate.

Rules

Send at least three anonymous asks/comments in a week to your partner. You are free to talk about anything in your ask as long as it abides by our rules, though we do encourage you to talk about Nirvana in Fire.

Sign off all your asks with a signature of your choice that makes it clear you’re participating in Fall in Langya.

It is forbidden to send anyone any NSFW asks, or to violate their stated DNWs. If this happens, please tell the mods.

Be kind to one another. This event is here to bring people together and celebrate friendships.

Wow ~ that's a great question. I want Lin Chen to have his own character song, and the singer will be Jin Dong himself! He has a great expressive voice and iirc, was disappointed he didn't get to dub himself in Nirvana in Fire.

I'm already dreaming about what he'll sing about and the MV...

Oh man, obviously Xiao Jingrui! I think he will see something in there that will ease his aching heart after being dumped by Su Zhe, and great comfort after the turmoil of his birthday party. That boy needs some love from a hero.

Clearly the heart of a hero? Why would I want to look at beauty which fades and has no real value? Beauty is but a matter of luck, a gift from parents that no one works for. But a hero is something to strive for. Anyone can become a hero in the right circumstances. They can learn how to do it, improve upon, be a hero multiple times. So if I can see into a hero's heart, I can learn from that. Now if I get to choose? I want to pick Yan Yujin. A silly boy who's more clever than even he realizes. Allowed for a time to be extravagant, but then rises to the challenge when it is necessary.

I need more Xia Dong and Xia Qiu in my life. I can't even recall if Xia Qiu was in the show, or if he was so negligible, that I don't remember him. But there is a scene in the novel where Xia Qiu disguises himself as Xia Dong by putting a little white powder in his hair (which by the way, the show robbed us of Xia Dong's shock of white hair, bastards). I want more twin shenanigans.

17th day - Do you have a scene from the drama you wish Hai Yain included in the drama? Or one where you wish we knew details the drama couldn't show?

There's a scene very early in the novel where we see a bit of Consort Yue's motivation for wanting her son to be, and stay, the crowned prince. Like, of course it is known that the emeperor's wives can't go out and do anything. They are basically in jail - like a really pretty and extensive jail with lots of comforts and privileges, but a jail nonetheless, but NiF was one of my first cdramas and I wasn't super knowledgeable about the cultural context or tropes, so in the show, she is very unsympathetic to me.

But in the novel, we see this glimpse of why she wants her son to be emperor. It's because then she can go home. She dreams of returning to her homeland and seeing the scenery that she hasn't seen in decades. Like. That's it. I think it's such a tiny, simple detail that could have been added to the show that wouldn't excuse her awful behavior, but explains it more.

I'm answering this in the reverse - I CAN'T BELIEVE JINGYAN DIDN'T GIVE MEI CHANGSU THE PEARL ONCE HE FOUND OUT IN THE NOVEL!

So ROBBED ROBBED ROBBED of princess carry 😭 But the one that COULD HAVE been included without worrying about anyone's physical limitations was this:

'Mei Changsu turned around and faced the Emperor. “Your Majesty also has a sword by your side, right?”

His penetrating gaze aroused in the Emperor the tumultuous feelings of his youth. Why oh why this was not there in the show!!! Entire Mount Jiu-An arc is just filled with damn good scenes and lines! (Including the said princess carry *criesoncue*)
