The End of Fallout 5e (please read)

Howdy wastelanders, It Hunter here to give you some sad news. Fallout 5e in it’s current form will be ending. It was a very fun project but now that I have learned so much from this project, I feel like I am ready to take the steps to create a new project. Duck & Cover: A Retro Sci-Fi Conversion Companion for Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition is the current working title to the successor of Fallout 5e. A more generalized retro sci-fi/fantasy set of rules to give more artistic freedom to myself and people I may hire to help expand this project. With luck, Duck & Cover could maybe even be available for print. I will be developing plenty of playtest material to make sure that Fallout 5e fans can still get their fix. Working on FO5e has been a blast, I hope all of you wastelanders will follow me to the next big step in this project. To keep updated, please join the new Duck & Cover subreddit or youtube channel. If you still want to talk with other fallout 5e fans about this project, consider joining my Discord Server. I am unsure if I will make a new Tumblr for D&C but if that is something you all would like to see, let me know.

in terms of buying things from the players handbook (like weapons) does 1 cap = 1 gp?

I would consider a cap to be the rough equivalent to a copper. At least that’s how I would rule it right now. You do what’s best for you and your players

Fallout Weapons

@fallout5e, here’s my first try

Weapon Properties

Many weapons have special properties related to their use, as shown in the Weapons table.

Energy. Energy weapons fire massless shots at near light speeds, so the attacker’s perceptiveness is what primarily matters. When making an attack with an energy weapon, you use your Wisdom modifier for the attack and damage rolls.

Grenade. Grenades generally use the rules of fragmentation grenades, from the dungeonmaster’s guide. Importantly, only one grenade can be thrown per round.

Reload. A limited number of shots can be made with a weapon that has the reload property. A character must then reload it using an action or a bonus action. The number of attacks, and the number and kind of ammunition used per reload action, appears before the range.

Unstable. Unstable weapons have to be readied. At the beginning of combat, when you switch to an unstable weapon, or when you miss an attack with an unstable weapon, it becomes unreadied. It can be readied as an action or bonus action. You have disadvantage on all attack rolls with unreadied weapons.

Special Weapons

Weapons with special rules are described here.

Silenced .22. Unlike other ranged weapons, this pistol is very quiet, allowing it to be used during stealth.

Grenade Launcher. Up to four grenades can be loaded in the launcher; they are launched in a last in, first out order. The launcher allows for multiple grenade attacks per round (since they are being fired, and not thrown), and allow them to travel further. Otherwise, use the normal rules for grenades.

Recharger Pistol. The pistol’s microbreeder holds up to 7 charges. Each attack roll with the pistol consumes a charge. Each round at the start of your turn, it recovers 1d4 charges.

Smoke Grenade. See the dungeonmaster’s guide.

Pulse Grenade. Any robotic creatures with the area of effect must make a DC 25 Constitution Save, or be paralyzed for 1 minute. They may reattempt this save once each round. Any creatures wearing power armor with the area of effect must make a DC 25 Constitution Save, or fall prone.

Fuel. A single unit of fuel can be used to start a campfire or other small fires.

Some issues with Fallout 5e

@fallout5e is, for the most part, absolutely brilliant. I have a few complains that I plan on fixing in my next few posts.

The class selection is anemic. More classes than not are considered a bad fit. This makes sense, since Fallout isn't a magical setting, but should probably be addressed. I'm planning on designing my own classes for these games.

Ranged weapons are too powerful. D&D has never been a game about simulation, and in Fallout, melee weapons deal about as much damage as ranged weapons. I'm planning on introducing simple and martial small guns, big guns, and energy weapons closer to the core ranged weapons.

To address your concerns, I recently released Version 7 and you will see that I have changed my opinions on classes. To summarize, I think it’s better to be more inclusive than exclusive. I think adding a little magic and imagination to a fallout story be fun as long as it ok with the DM and the players.The chapter is still pretty small but classes are still on my list of things to do. I have been throwing around ideas in my head.

Ranged weapons I knew would eventually need to “combat”. Some variant rules are certainly needed.

Sense starting Fallout 5e, I have been mostly working on this guide alone. But now I can see that there is a sizable community in this little corner of the internet. I will now be accepting more fan feedback and making sure to give credit to contributors. This is more than just my game. This is our game.

In the future I want to add more art from other popular fallout community artists like @galoogamelady who made the beautiful cover art that was introduced in V6.5 and try to find  more artists from the Fallout and DnD communities to commission.

Fallout 5e wip update

Howdy Wastelanders!

Life and computer problems may have delayed my work on FO5e, but there is no way I’m stopping! Thank you for all who have stuck with me and have been so patient. Version 7 will be coming soon with Background Suggested Characteristics being completely filled out and other content. Lastly if anyone has any suggestions, comments, or want to tell stories about your FO5e adventures, please remember to use #fallout5e or #FO5e on tumblr or twitter! A small issue but something exciting too!

Ok guys so my hard drive might be on the verge of becoming corrupted and I have backed up all my files including Fallout 5e.

This mean I might not be able to work on Fallout 5e for maybe a month. Shouldn’t be much more than that until I get a new hard drive.

WHILE WE WAIT FOR THAT

I have decided to run a Fallout 5e oneshot for my Patreon patrons on discord! If you want to join the game, you must abide by the following...

- Open to Gold and Silver patron tiers on my Patreon

- must become a patron before July 1st, 2019

- Participants must be 18+

- Follow @fallout5e

- Join the Discord

After the July 1st, I will be sending messages to my Gold and Silver patrons about the details of the game. The size of the group will be no more than 6 players and will be chosen on a fist respond first serve basis. If there are not enough Gold or Silver patrons respond, the invitation will be extended to the Copper patrons.
