#the metatextual changes and shifts in tone and characterisation create such an amazing additional layer in all storylines #thinking of jason coming back to gotham and being confronted with bruce who is basically a different person #which makes jay doubt if this is still his reality and if he’s truly alive #because the person his life use to centre around is barely recognisible #it’s like. is this really his dad? are his memories wrong? what was his childhood really? is he even in the right place? #is it fair to be so attached to this stranger? GOD. what deception, this vicious cycle of misremembering and un-remembering and re-remembering, until you’re not sure if this version of your dad who you traced in your memory again and again even existed in the first place. (and you wonder if he feels that way too, if he looks at you and doesn’t ever remember his son to be like you)
