There was an arrest across the street from my place in Oakland one day – three cop cars with a bullhorn and guns out – and before I could even get out the gate there were a couple people posted up and one of them was filming and another one was narrating in a calm but very loud voice, just

“HE IS COOPERATING! HIS HANDS ARE EMPTY! HE IS DOING WHAT HE IS TOLD TO DO! HE IS HOLDING STILL! HIS HANDS ARE EMPTY! HE IS NOT BEING THREATENING! HE HAS PUT HIS HANDS BEHIND HIS HEAD AS ASKED! HE IS NOT RESISTING!”

and that was something I hadn’t thought to do before. It certainly let the cops know what the narrative of eye witnesses was going to be. 

I especially liked “his hands are empty” because this statement would still be true and a witnessed reason the police should not become violent even if it turned out he had a weapon on his person somewhere.

whats so funny about all of this is the sheer number of people who became invested in the story after 15.18 because of cas’ confession. like, that was the most hype and the most social media response that a supernatural episode has ever gotten (correct me if im wrong there)? it grabbed people and pulled them back in for the final two episodes even if they hadnt watched in years or had never watched it at all, which is insane. it was a legitimate phenomenen on the internet and it stirred up so much interest and excitement which the final two episodes viewership numbers definitely reflect.

it just proves what i’ve been saying for years: if they had gone forward with deancas, stopped the bait and made it text - even complicated, nuanced, non-romcom material text - there wouldve been an explosion of fans. new fans wouldve tuned in, old fans wouldve come back, and supernatural wouldve been firmly transferred to the internets favorite media list. of course, it wouldve alienated some fans, and i dont know enough about the breakdown of fan demographics to say this for sure, but i feel like its possible the influx of fans wouldve evened it out. and besides, its not the homophobic dudebro fans who are going to cons, buying every piece of merch, etc - thats queer money! it just seems like such an absurd missed opportunity in terms of increasing viewership and profit, being front page trending interent news for weeks or months, and also going down in history as a landmark in queer media and television in general

The creators of Gilmore Girls wanted Sookie to be a lesbian but the network said no. The writers have also said that there are characters in Stars Hollow that they absolutely view as gay but they didn’t put it in the scripts and I’ve never seen them say which characters they were

they used Clarke being the first bisexual CW heroine in the 100 for marketing, blew it up across social media, and then killed Lexa off a few episodes later (and I know there's a ton of problems w/ racism in the 100 too). They also erased Jughead's asexuality from Riverdale even though Cole Sprouse supported it, sidelined Kevin into an honestly disgusting ~gay best friend~ stereotype, and are, again, racist towards their characters of color

This man is stating he hasn't been able to sleep right. This guy has always had our backs. This guy is an advocate for doing good and helping others. This guy has been there every time we've needed him.

Misha Collins is a good man and is the one taking the heat and the blame for things out of his reach. He's the one listening and replying. And watching him saying he feels sick for the mistake he made, is breaking my heart.

I love this man so much, because he has shown his love to this family over and over again.

He deserves better.

Let's make #thankyoumisha trending, not to undermine everything we've been fighting for. But to make him understand we see what he's doing, that he is loved and to low a little bit the anxiety he must be feeling right now. He deserves to have a nice Thanksgiving with his family (and helping others) and even with all of that in his plate he is reading and responding the messages.

Please if you love this guy. Show him your love. He needs it in this moment.

also cgi exists. if you need your disabled character to walk for a couple of scenes use a body double and green screen. this can also be used for trans characters prior to transition.

if it’s possible to make chris evans look 5ft nothing and skinnier than a maypole then it’s possible to cast disabled actors for disabled characters

The Spy Kids films had disabled actor Ricardo Montalbán play the kids’ disabled grandpa, and in the third movie he was CGI’d into an Iron-Man style bodysuit that made him look like he was able to walk and take part in a high-speed futuristic car race and other action sequences. And this was in 2003. If a goofy kids’ franchise can do it using embarassingly bad early 2000s CGI, you have literally no excuse.

My European Studies professor decided a few weeks ago to take a Friday and instead of following the syllabus, he spent the entire hour and a half comparing Hitler’s actions from a European perspective to that of what Trump is doing in America. He never repeated a single point, and even used video and photos like this to show the comparison.

To make things better, he had us do an in class assignment for participation points. He first played a clip on youtube of one of Hilter’s speeches, subtitled and 3 minutes long. He then played a clip of one of Trump’s rallies. Our assignment? Copy down every single sentence that matched in translation down on a sheet of paper or a word document that wasn’t repeated. The person with the closest amount to what my professor found got a candy bar.

My professor found, in just three minutes of a speech, that Trump matched 65 different phrases/sentences to that of Hitler’s translation. 

65 nearly identical phrases used in his speeches. Take a moment to think about that.

hi tumblr-the conservative party is back at it again. 

currently, the GRA (gender recognition act) says to transition “legally”, trans people have to: 

 get two diagnoses of gender dysphoria (including one from an NHS gender clinic, which have a 2-3 year wait time currently), 

prove you have lived as your chosen gender for 2 years, 

swear to live the remainder of your life as such

and  do all of this in front of a “gender recognition panel”, a process which is very humiliating and largely depends on people deciding if you are “trans enough”. 

in 2018, the idea was put on the table to progress the rights of transgender people in the UK. Including: 

 allowing them to self identify as their chosen gender (including 16 & 17 year olds, who have previously been denied the right to)

demedicalising the transition progress, no doctors would need to diagnose gender dysphoria to transition.

removing the cost to have your gender legally recognised

allow non-binary identities to be recognised

it has recently been leaked that the current government has scrapped these ideas [source  source]. Our equality minister, Liz Truss, is horribly transphobic and wishes to backpedal on the few rights we have. 

trans people have said for years that the GRA is outdated and in need of reform, and have had the tiny ray of hope that it may be changed ripped out from under us behind closed doors. 

petitions on the parliament website are legally obligated to be responded to at 10k signatures and have to be debated in parliament at 100k signatures. please note you have to click a confirmation link in your emails before your signature is counted!
