Thinking about the Eskel vs. Caranthir fight once again and how Eskel starts the combat specifically as the agressor, and with a reverse grip on his sword

He doesn't wait for Caranthir to come to him, he attacks first to put Caranthir on the defensive. And the thing with reverse grip (thanks to a wonderfully succinct video from David the Arrow Bard) is that it forces the wielder to get in extremely close range with their opponent in order to land any hits

This motherfucker saw that Caranthir was a mage first and foremost, and intentionally wanted to get all up in Caranthir's face so that Caranthir himself would have a harder time using magic and his staff. You can literally see Eskel looking Caranthir up and down to guage his strengths and weaknesses before he runs in to attack

He had to of been banking on the chance that Caranthir's staff was going to be used more as a magic channel than it was a weapon, which I think is why, once Caranthir started parrying and deflecting Eskel's reverse grip hits, Eskel switched his grip to the traditional style

Also of note, Eskel switches from double-handed to single-handed grip, and then back again to double. Perhaps this meant he thought that using Sword and Signs, would be less effective than putting his whole strength behind both hands for just the Sword

And to be very fair, when Eskel was initially all up in his face, Caranthir either couldn't or didn't want to use his magic from the staff, since Eskel was so close and aggressively wailing on him, keeping him too busy to fire off a spell. And the first spell/magic he does use? Is to push Eskel the fuck away from him. Not damage, but space, because this pesky fucking Witcher is not giving him an inch to work with!!! It is only after this point as Eskel gets back to his feet, that Caranthir fully moves from defensive to offensive in his moves!! Fantastic!

This was an incredibly calculated fight from Eskel who made these decisions extremely quickly, and I know for a fact I didn't fully appreciate that when I first saw the scene, apart from 'holy shit this is so fucking cool' 😌

Just got insanely, disproportionately upset at the realisation that of all the Witchers that we can potentially see alive in TW3, the only one that doesn't have even have a chance of a 'canonical' death in the games. Is Eskel.

If everything went terribly, horribly wrong in a playthrough, he could potentially be the very last (known) Witcher still alive on the Continent.

Vesemir is scripted. Lambert can meet his end if he isn't saved by Keira or Geralt. Geralt's (and Ciri's) bad ending is death. Letho, in some choices, won't make it past TW2, and his Viper brothers certainly don't. Gaetan and Karadin can be executed by Geralt's own judgement. The other Cat Witchers are either dead or actively being hunted by soldiers for a bounty. The only other named Witchers I can think of are the ones who owned the Grandmaster diagrams, and I'm pretty sure all of them either died or became 'lost'.

Taking into account only the game canon content, if you chose specific options through TW2 and TW3, Eskel could genuinely be the last surviving, named, Witcher. And on the one hand, its a testament to how good he is, not just his combat skills, but also his ability to stay away from trouble. But, on the other hand..... Fuck, dude. The last of his kind, the loneliest man on earth. Shatters my heart if I think about it too hard

I might lose followers for saying this but I really think they should have cast Liam from the start. He portrayed more emotion and seemed to really understand Geralt's psychology. He had more chemistry with his co-stars and I thought he was more book-accurate. It's a shame we'll only get one more season with him.

Every time I make the mistake of opening the comment section on anything for season 4 of The Witcher, I see people saying shit like "this is why I'm not watching the show anymore!!😡😡!!!!1!😡!!11!!!"

And like okay. You know you can leave, right? You know no one is forcing you to watch the trailer or the teaser clips, right? You know that you can just ignore the new season, and you don't have to engage with it at all, right?

As a Witcher fan it’s been such a bummer seeing the constant barrage of hate comments left under every post/trailer/article/etc. about the show and the new season. I feel so bad for everyone working on the show; even if the Witcher Netflix isn’t your cup of tea no one deserves to have their work be the constant target of ire and abuse. So many bad faith takes like saying the show is “woke” and dIsReSpEcTiNg ThE sOuRcE mAtErIaL by having women at the forefront of the narrative (You mean like the books?) or proclaiming Henry Cavill to be the sole defender of THE LORE (which by the man’s own admission isn’t true). It’s so frustrating.

Normally I’m a block and move on kind of person but now I’m wondering if I can convince Witcher fandom to combine our forces and throw down in the comments. Taking the high road clearly hasn’t worked with these weirdos, maybe it’s time to call them out on their bullshit.
