1. Fic that gave you hope

The Pear Tree by avoidingavoidance: So this may be an odd choice for this one, if you’ve read the fic. Seeing as it’s full of anguish and post apocalypse and the narrator dies in the first couple paragraphs, but. This one is a journey. And honestly, I could fill this entire list with fics from the wonderful AA. But this one does give me hope. Even in the face of devastation, when there is nothing left for the entire world. There’s still hope. It’s there, even if it takes a while to see. Please read this (and all of AA’s fics because come on), it’s incredible.

2. Fic that inspired you

006 by ifappedonce​: This is currently being reposted as the author gives it a heavy edit, but holy shit. This fic is so magnificently well written. The first person narrative is so real and the thought processes Eren goes through are so relatable. Every time I read a new chapter I would just have to take a moment to be in awe of the writing style.

3. Fic that made you cry

Once Then, Twice Again by Orphaned Account: I’m sad that this author has decided to leave the fandom, but it happens. Still, this is well well worth the read. It made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me sit and think really hard about life. It was one of the earlier JM fics I read, and I’m so glad I found it. It still sticks with me to this day.

4. Fic that made you feel good

Thirty Days (of Falling in Love) by kyrandis: This is such a sweet little fic AND it’s the reason I started doing NaNoWriMo. It’s a very cute account of the struggles of NaNo and finding someone you really like in the process. I just, please read it. It’s short and sweet and lovely.

5. Fic that made you hold your breath

What’s Eating You by fuzzyporcupine​: Honestly, there are a lot of Sarah’s fics I could put on this list. But this one means SO much to me. It makes your heart race and it’s SO beautifully written. I’m not really into zombie stuff usually and I almost didn’t read this because of it, but I am so so so glad that I did. It’s emotional and tense and the pacing is impeccable. I’ve written scores of words about how much I love this fic, please, read it.

6. Fic that made you realize something personal

Help Me Stand by vydeseny​: This one is full of trigger warnings, so just be aware. But this one gave me a lot of insight into my own issues and it made me feel a lot of things. I could quote several bits of this and they would apply exactly to my own life. Reading this was an incredibly personal journey and I thank the author for giving that to me.

7. Fic that made you squeal

Acting Up by freckledbodty: So this is a series, not a fic, but that’s because both fit into this category and both are very much worth reading. Actor AU in which everyone is super gay and super in love and it’s just really great. Lots of laughter, a little bit of feels, but mostly a lot of silliness.

8. Fic that made you think

Strings by kenjiandcompany​: Kenji’s writing is a gift and this fic is insane. I’ve read it twice and it’s so well put together. It’s thought out and brilliant and such a fantastic read. I beg people to read this one, it’s well worth it and it’ll keep you on your toes the whole time. Plus, hot bodyguard Marco, what more could you ask for?

9. Fic that surprised you

A Sound Like Breaking Glass by mongoose-bite​: This was my first snk fic I read and I am forever grateful for that. This is amazing. It was a wild ride, start to finish, and I love it so much. I can’t give away exactly why it surprised me, but I can say that it’s not often something throws me for a loop like that.

10. Fic you return to for comfort

The Little Titan Cafe by pocketsizedtitan​: This is the fluffiest, cutest, most pleasant read ever. I love this fic and it just makes me feel so good. I love it to death and recommend it highly to everyone.

There are so many more fics and authors I could put on this list, but in order to control myself, I’m going to stop with one for each. Every author on this list is amazing, and so are all of the authors I couldn’t get onto it. These are some of my favourite fics, but not all of them, by far.

tigermouth told me ages ago I could share this WIP of an illustration she did for my fic Teacher’s Pet, part of the Classroom Politics universe, so here we go! Here it is <3

In this fic, Simon is 25 and about to be invested as Mage, but has to go back to Watford in order to pass eighth year first. Baz is his Political Science teacher. So this is an older Baz in a three-piece suit (or part of it) and older Simon in a school uniform, and Baz’s desk. i love everything about this pose, Baz’s waistcoat and his eyebrows (tigermouth always does an amazing job of Baz’s eyebrows). 

Teacher’s Pet is one of two NSFW epilogues to Classroom Politics, which is rated Teen.

Fanbinding When the Tides Held the Moon by Venessa Kelley

I feel like everyone in this fandom should know about @vkelleyart’s art—it’s absolutely breathtaking in every iteration. Somehow, this gift to fandom is also a brilliant writer (she’s overflowing with talent, right?!?) When the Tides Held the Moon is absolutely gorgeous on both fronts, is one of my favourite fics, and was a story I yearned to bind.

Simon Snow needs a job, though most would argue he needs a friend. When he finally lands work as a day labourer at Mage’s Traveling Carnival of Curiosities, he’s suddenly got the pick of the rarest company in Blackpool, including a bearded lady, a pretty contortionist, The Tattooed Australian, and a slightly unhinged fire-breather. With friends like these, sideshow life would be interesting enough, but everything changes after he comes face-to-face with the mysterious and beautiful occupant in the last tent.

We started by picking fonts: Garamond for the body text and the lovely The Last Font I’m Wasting On You for the title and chapters.

We did a kettle stitch, a rounded spine, and headbands!

This was my first time using bookcloth, and I’m never binding a book without it again!!! I’m swooning 😂

BUT… i literally have no works in progress. NONE. i posted the thing i was working on yesterday and i haven’t started anything else/have no idea what i will write next yet. (Give me your ideas. Can we have a kink meme or something? I love kink memes.) 

So - I will do the commenting one someone else’s thing for 6 lines instead, because that’s nice.

YYH Kurama Merch. review

Hello everyone, 

So today I received @mayayamidori​ goodies and they are amazing! 

Starting off with the handling, Midori provided an excellent service and listen to my queries genuinely. She bubble wrapped the acrylic stand, put on a fragile label on the box and even stacked some air column roll packs inside to secure the package. I really do appreciate the service you provided me, Midori. Thank you! 💖

As for the shipping, we went with FedEx International Ground. I paid for the items around September 27th, 2021 and they arrived October 05th, 2021. ( Approximately a week from someone who lives in Canada) When it arrived at the clearance area around October 2nd, 2021 and received a voice mail confirming the inspection. After giving a call to FedEx customer service to inquire furthermore information regarding tax and duties payment, it was still in the process until October 04th, 2021. Luckily, I was free of charges thanks to Midori who reduced the product value on the customs papers.

So here is what I ordered! I collect the epoxy glitter coat version. These acrylic stands are very solid and larger than what I anticipate. It has the right amount of glitters and the artwork quality is outstanding too. I won’t lie that I had a hard time peeling off the protective film but it does come with instructions on how to do it properly. I trim my nails quite often… 😂😂

@polmcarts : I must say that the black suit is just so good on both versions of Kurama. You captured perfectly that personality of one looking presentable for a funeral or marriage ceremony and the other who runs away from a bar party. His fans must have gotten him into this hot mess.🤣 Despite that vivid scenario, Youko still maintains that cool demeanour. 

@polmcarts​: The Chinese attires are rock-solid and your fashion taste is in point. Thank god, Kurama got someone who knows how to dress him properly. 

@polmcarts​: We seriously need to see more of Kurama tying his hair up. That casual look and iconic orange trench jacket look stunning. Also, it is nice to see Kurama thicc limbs for once, showing off his muscles hidden beneath his clothes. What I enjoy most from your artwork is the realistic body anatomy you take into your drawing. Keep up the amazing work and thank you for bringing this to life.✨

how do ao3 fans rationalize the fact that in spite of them consistently making 5x their goal every donation drive, the site is virtually unchanged since its inception and has been in beta for 12 fucking years

ao3 doesn’t make money off of ads which are what pay for 90% of other websites. you don’t want ads on ao3. ads mean the sponsor gets to dictate what kind of content they want their ads paired with, and who they want to see their ads. this is why youtube, for instance, is so heavily censored, and why facebook can collect so much data on you as a user

their donation drive earnings are pennies compared to what it costs to run other websites with a comparable amount of users. their latest drive is sitting at 220k which is NOTHING when you’re talking about cloud data servers. facebook spends 3.2 billion *in a single quarter* on servers

they also have an entire post with a breakdown of their budget here if you’re curious

ao3 has a very refined search system that has been tweaked and modified over the years. posting and searching for fanfiction back in the fanfiction.net/livejournal days was very much the wild west. you can now easily find a well-tagged fic for any pairing or fandom you want in under five minutes. you don’t have to worry that it’s going to get removed because the platform has suddenly decided to ban all adult content.

Izayoi didn’t notice, because of course she didn’t– she was human and the room was otherwise immaculate, not a single item out of place, and their bedsheets were perfectly done. She breezed inside their bedroom unawares and hauled her luggage up onto their bed, buffeting the air as she did and repeating the assault again when she threw open her suitcase and pushed back the flap. Toga covered his nose with his hand, choking on the scent of his son and– oh, Gods, if he ended up a grandfather in a few months, he’d kill that idiot boy.

Fucking teenagers, was the first thought that came to mind, and it was awfully appropriate.

“Uh-huh.” Toga pinched the bridge of his nose, shaking his head. “I’m sure you are.”

“Go on, then,” Izayoi sighed, “Wash the sheets. Of every bed in the house,” she added quickly, to her son’s slight dismay. “I don’t want to hear it, InuYasha. I don’t understand how you thought your father wouldn’t notice.”

I'm going to do this chronologically according to the story, as opposed to the order I wrote it in. If you wanted to just stick with the main however, you easily could!

Puppy Love - This starts them out as childhood friends and relives their first kiss together. You can see a bit of Kagome's relationship with her father, as well as see Sesshomaru in action imparting some important information to Inuyasha on the ways of men.

More Than by @keichanz! Summary: An angsty glimpse of Inuyasha and Kagome's breakup from LemonLush's fanfiction, One Last Ride.

One Last Straw - It starts you out post Inu/Kag's break up, and is a prequel to the story. The angst is pretty heavy and it CAN be skipped, but some things are referenced in it later in the main fic. It's also where we see Inuyasha's relationship with his brother become fleshed out.

One Last Ride - The big kahuna. This is where the bulk of the story is, and where you see Inuyasha and Kagome deal with their past together before slowly working through their differences and finding their way back together. Inuyasha movie au: everyone is an actor and they love doing the show. The actors are sort of different from their roles, example being Naraku's actor being a huge sweetheart, Kikyo's actress being super easy to make laugh, etc

And what about our two main characters? Are they kind of hot for each other but are being professional or are they just fellow coworkers? From @heavenin–hell drawing, both of the actors looked like they had matching necklaces… I don’t know if I’m making a big deal out of a friendship token or just careful marketing ideas but I saw it and awwwwwed immediately!!! I like to think that Inu actor had seen Kag actor before and really liked her acting style and slyly mentioned to the casting director that she might be a good fit.

She was usually more professional than some of the more experienced actresses he’d worked with, determined to prove herself. He hoped inviting her out for coffee wasn’t overstepping the mark.

She took the paper cup with a tired grin. “You remembered!”

“Pfft. I’ve only heard you order it nearly every day for the last three months of filming - I’d be a pretty crappy leading man if I didn’t know how my leading lady took her coffee.”

Her little half smile had none of the usual pep, and his eyebrows furrowed in concern. Now that she was dressed in her street clothes and the heavier makeup used for filming was washed away, it was easier to notice the dark shadows under her eyes, and her paler skin. It had been a long day, but he felt there was something more going on, and he was determined to get to the bottom of it, if she’d let him.

They wandered down the street together, sipping their coffee in companionable silence. That was one of the things he liked about her. She didn’t seem to feel the need to fill up an empty space with even emptier words. But he was still worried; her usual silence was comforting to him, but this felt oppressive.

“Hey”, he began, “we’ve got to know each other pretty well, yeah?” She nodded, bumping her elbow against his as they walked.

“I’d like to think so”, she said softly.

He smiled gently. “I just wanted to let you know if there was anything worrying you, I’m happy to listen.”

They paused on a bridge crossing a canal, both leaning their elbows on the rough cement to watch the lights of the bustling city play on the water below them.

She sighed. “I know you said not to, but I was reading some of the recent reviews. There were a few not so great ones about me and..”

He groaned loudly, then swatted her playfully on the back of the head, and she mock scowled at him, rubbing the spot where his fingers had connected.

He grinned. “What’d I tell you about reading reviews wench?”

She rolled her eyes at the use of his nickname for her, a common epithet used by his character, Inuyasha, to her Kagome. “You said to let my agent handle that stuff, I know. I’m just worried, okay?” She bit her bottom lip, tapping the empty cup on the edge of the railing. “I’m playing two parts in this! Two! Both Kagome and Kikyou. And if I suck, I’m gonna let everyone down! I had trouble sleeping last night, because I was worried about the scene we just did, and look how terrible I was!”

He shook his head. “Not terrible. You just had a bad day. Everyone has them. Tomorrow you’ll have a better one.”

She sighed, leaning her head against his arm. “I’m so lucky to have someone supportive like you looking out for me. When I was studying at acting school, teachers warned us about men in the industry and ‘expectations’ they might have, but everyone on this shoot has been so lovely.”

“You make sure you tell me if anything like that happens okay?” he said with a sudden frown, swirling the last of his coffee in the paper cup, then draining it in one gulp. “Even after we finish up on this shoot. I want to stay in touch. I promise I’ll take care of you.” She grinned at him, and he shook his head. “What are you smiling at me for? Don’t you think I mean it?”

She giggled. “I do. It’s just that sounds like something Inuyasha would say to Kagome.” He snorted.

A sudden burst of flashes from across the canal startled them both, and she ducked her head behind his shoulder.

“Oh no!” she whispered. “Do you think that was a photo journalist? Will we get in trouble?”

He shrugged, then rubbed her shoulder in what he hoped was a comforting manner. “Possibly. Let’s not worry about it unless we have to.”

She dropped her head into her hands with a groan. “As if this day couldn’t get any worse! What if they get the wrong idea and say we’re in a relationship!”

He bumped his shoulder against hers. “I could think of worse things they could say”, he said softly.

Her eyes lifted to his, and for the first time that day, she gave him a real smile. There was a hopeful glint in her eyes, magnified by the shine of the city lights around them.

“Me too.”

“Gooooooood morning, sunshine. Do you know how freakin’ lucky you are to be able to wear modern shoes for this gig because these traditional sandals are hell on my feet.”

Looking up from her phone as an arm slung around her shoulders, the actress looked up into the grinning face of her costar, already donned in in the pink and green kimono that “Sango” wore, but sans the makeup and wig that concealed her spiked pixie cut. The woman, only a year or so older than herself, was naturally pretty and in her opinion didn’t think she needed any makeup, but that was show biz.

“Morning,” she returned pleasantly and took a sip of her latte. “I certainly don’t envy you that.

K was dressed similarly in her own school girl costume but with an over-sized red hoodie over it since it was chilly that morning. Y had given it to her last night during their evening stroll when she said she was cold and she hadn’t given it back yet because fuck it, it was comfy.

S sighed. “I suppose I should be grateful. At least I don’t have to wear geta like M does.”

“Oh my god, truth,” K said and the two women giggled together. 

“Soooooo,” S drawled and bumped her shoulder against K’s. “Checked the news today?”

K wrinkled her nose and shook her head. “Mm, no. I stupidly looked at some reviews about me the other day and I’ve decided to avoid any news for my own health and sanity.”

Despite her words, however, her gaze drifted across the set to land on a small group of people - her fellow actors and costars - and a fond smile lit her face.

Goofing off before getting into their roles to start filming for the day, but all of them in full costume, Y and N were chatting and the kid that played Shippou was sitting atop Y’s shoulders as he gesticulated wildly with his hands. It was an endearing sight and S did not fail to miss the softness in the actress’s face as she regarded a certain costar clad in red.

S hummed and sucked in her lip before chiming, “You miiiight wanna do yourself a favor and take a gander, sunshine. Trust me on this.”

K frowned at the woman and then narrowed her eyes. “Why.”

S tilted her head and raised her brows, the slight smile curling her lips mysterious.

Heaving a sigh, K grumbled and admitting to herself that she was curious, she went against her better judgement and Googled “news.”

Didn’t take long at all to find what S wanted her to find. Because the first article that popped up, accompanied by a very familiar and incriminating photo, had K’s eyes going very wide and nearly choking on her coffee.

“A FEUDAL FAIRY TALE OR REAL ROMANCE: ‘INUYASHA’ COSTARS Y AND K LOOKING COZY ON A COFFEE DATE ATOP BRIGHTEN BRIDGE!”

They did indeed look very cozy, with K leaning against her costar’s arm and looking up at him with a fond grin while he started down at her, not smiling, but his eyes were soft. With a start sh realized the picture was the product of those flashes they’d both seen last night and a ball of dread developed in her stomach.

“Oh dear god,” K murmured while S snickered into her hand and without even thinking she snapped her head up to look at her “partner in crime.”

M had evidently had the same idea and had wandered over with a tablet in his hand. All four of them were staring down at the screen with various degrees of shock and as if Y could feel her gaze, he looked up and their eyes collided.

She blinked. He blinked.

And then they both started laughing, K biting her lip to contain her giggles while Y lifted a hand to cover his grinning mouth, shoulders shaking in silent mirth. With laughing eyes she mouthed “Oops?” and he shrugged, lowering his hand to display a wide grin. 

And that was when both of their agents came storming onto the set, looking very displeased and the costars exchanged a brief look before simultaneously bolting. All around their fellow costars and actors laughed as the two made their getaway, unable to hide their own amusement as they joined hands and ran for it while two very pissed off agents chased after them, loudly proclaiming that they didn’t get paid enough to put up with this shit, dammit.

Baz

Simon is rambling on about his day - an assignment he’s struggling with and some drama he overheard at the bakery - but I’m struggling to pay attention.

He’s a lot happier and enthusiastic than he was for the first couple of years after we left Watford, and I’m happy for him. He has really come into his unknown and found happiness despite all the shit life has thrown at him. I’m proud of him.

Right now, though, all I can think about is something I’ve been wanting to tell him for a few months now. I’m nonbinary, and I don’t know how to tell him.

I’ve looked it up about a thousand times now - how to tell your loved ones you’re nonbinary - but none of it seemed all that useful to me. I tried writing down what I wanted to say to Simon, but the words wouldn’t come. And it’s not like I need to explain to him what it means to be non-binary — he learned that from Shep — but it’s one thing to accept others as non-binary; it’s a whole other thing to accept someone you’ve know most of your life as one thing as something completely different.

I’m afraid that he’ll look at me differently once I tell him, like I’m not the same person he fell in love with.

Simon is still talking, and I take in a deep shaky breath as I look down at my hands, at the pink nail polish that adorns my nails.

Simon has been nothing but complimentary about my nails or the way I occasionally throw on a top that isn’t normally perceived as masculine. But appearance isn’t the same thing as identity. Just because he likes the way I look, it doesn’t mean he’ll like who I am.

“Simon, I need to tell you something,” I blurt out in the middle of the story he was telling me.

“Is everything okay?” He asks, looking a little worried.

“Yes. I just...It’s pride month.”

“I know. We’ve been selling our pride pastries like crazy this month, and people seem to have suddenly begun to notice the gay flag that I have worn every day to work for the past year.”

I nod and take another deep breath, struggling to take in enough air. I feel tears burning at the backs of my eyes. They always come with this sense of panic, but I refuse to let them spill at this moment. I have to say this.

“Simon.” I pause, clenching my hands into fists to keep them from shaking. “I’m non-binary.”

I can barely breathe as I wait for his response even though it comes a moment later.

“Oh,” his tone is neutral, and I think I might combust into flames right here if he doesn’t say something soon. He reaches out to squeeze my hand, and I draw my eyes up to meet his. The look on his face is so soft that it takes my breath away. “I’m glad you told me.”

“You don’t seem surprised. It doesn’t bother you?”

He shrugs, ever the one for words. “You’re still you. You’re still the person I fell in love. Now I just know a little more about who you are.” He pauses briefly before adding, “I’m glad you felt comfortable enough to tell me.”

The tears do start to fall then.

Simon is saying the most perfect things, and it’s then that I realize I’m going to marry this guy one day. I could never find someone else as caring and stubborn and perfect as him. He’s it for me. He’s my person, and I’ll never feel this way about anyone else.

I can feel a stupid smile growing on my face, and I lean forward to kiss Simon

I won’t ask him to marry me today, but someday. Perhaps one day soon.

“I love you,” I say, pulling out of the kiss.

“I love you, too.” I’m still relieved to hear him say that, even though he has already said that he accepts me for who I am. It lifts all of my worries off of me. It’s a relief to know that I can be my true self with him.
