hello, so I used to have this blog or an approximation of this blog for hobbit/lotr fanfiction a while ago, but i nuked the entire thing.
i have recently jumped back into this fandom and thought that i might just have another go. i'll post some of my *edited* old fics and will happily take requests.
i have and will write almost any ship pairings and have quite a back log of old x Reader fics with various hobbit and lotr characters. i write fluff and smut so under 18s please do not interact with this blog.
i have an Ao3 which i will be updating with old and new fics.
please do have a nose about or send in an ask. this blog will be updated on the semi regular.
I am part of the way through a new fic, a Bagginshield fic in fact. I thought I might post a bit of a WiP here to see if y'all like it so far.
I am kind of obsessed with retelling the Battle of the Five Armies and that is where I start this fic.
Let me know what you think!
Bilbo followed the deep sounds of dwarven conversation along the halls of Erebor. He limped slightly as he went, one does not simply survive a battle between five seperate armies and stroll out the other side unscathed. Gazing around him, he slowed to appreciate the craftsmanship of the Dwarves of old. The halls of Erebor were impressive to say the least, carved expertly from the stone of the Lonely Mountain, clad in a blueish green stone which Bilbo couldnât identify, heâd have to ask Thorin about it later. Thorin. Bilboâs thoughts strayed back to a few days past.Â
Coming around, dazed and confused in the middle of chaos on Ravenhill. Stumbling and tripping through carnage, desperately searching, seeking. Where is Thorin? His eyes strained against the glare of the sun off the snow and ice. In the distance he saw Balin and Dwalin holding back a wave of goblins. Dwalin smashing this way and that with Grasper and Keeper, goblins flying into the air and raining down onto their now scrambling brethren. A cry sounded above him and Bilbo lurched backwards to look up towards the peak of Ravenhill. Tauriel and Kili were fighting a large orc, he thought it might be Bolg, Azogâs son. He could see that even as the two practised warriors fought skilfully, the orc was causing them difficulty. It looked as though Bolg may be starting to gain the advantage, when the Prince of the Woodland realm appeared, holding the claws of a Gundabad bat flying overhead. Het let go and gracefully landed on the orcs shoulders, joining the fray.Â
âKILI!â A familiar voice screamed from below.Â
Bilbo peered over the rocky ledge he was standing on to see Fili staring up at his brother. Kili used the break in fighting caused by the surprise arrival of Legolas to search the river bank below for his brother. He quickly fired off three arrows once he located the golden haired dwarf, felling three orcs trying to surround Fili. Bilbo turned his face skyward once more and watched as Legolas brought one of his twin daggers swiftly down on Bolgâs head, piercing his skull and felling the creature with a single blow. The elf quickly retrieved his blade and made for the edge of the peak, searching the river bank below, Killi scrambling after him. Bilbo followed the gaze of the two princes and saw Thorin. Thorin fighting Azog. Thorin fighting Azog, alone. His breath caught his throat as he whispered âNo.â
âFili, to the King!â Kili screamed, as he started to make his way down the side of Ravenhill.Â
Before Fili could move Legolas called out, voice clear as the ringing of a bell âSon of Durin, this will aid the King.â he threw down Orcrist, the Goblin-cleaver. The sword landed at the feet of his dwarven prince counter part. Fili swept it up and with a slight nod to the Prince of the Woodland Realm, he turned and hastened toward his King.Â
Kili had now reached the ledge on which Bilbo stood. âCome Bilbo, to the King!â He shouted as he launched himself over the edge, desperate to catch up with his brother. Bilbo scrambled to follow after, his footing was less sure and his strides not quite as long and so he was left far behind the raven haired prince. Ahead of him he could see Dwalin and Balin falling back with more shouts of âTo the King! To Thorin!âÂ
Fili was a fair way ahead, Bilbo saw him reach his uncle. He defended a blow from Azog with Orcrist before throwing the weapon to Thorin and unsheathing his twin blades. Thorin caught the blade with ease and continued his attack. Azog was now suffering assault form two angles and as Bilbo ran he could see The King Under the Mountain and his Heir starting to wear the white orc down.
AN: my first ever fic to be posted on AO3! Read the whole fic HERE. I know a few people were interested when I posted about a Fili x Reader fic so here it is. As always, thoughts and comments welcome, requests are open.
A little taster:
As you jumped over a fallen tree your keen hearing picked up the sounds of metal on metal. You came to a stop quickly and quietly, and instinctively reached a hand down and laid it on the hilt of your dagger. Old habits died hard and you were never without a weapon when you were alone. You stood quieting your breathing, straining for the direction the sounds were coming from. They couldnât be far ahead judging by the clear clanging you could hear, so quietly and with care you crept towards the sounds. You saw a clearing up ahead; two figures were fighting with swords, you could see the metal flashing in the morning sun. Using every single bit of your stealth you crept to the edge of the clearing willing your foot fall to stay light and not betray you by falling into a dwarven thud upon the earth. You peeked into the grassy circle and let out an almost inaudible sigh of relief, the two people sparring were none other then Dwalin, Chief of the Guard and Prince Fili, Thorinâs heir. They fought with breath taking precision. Fili was fighting with his twin swords swirling them around his body and through the air as if he was doing a violent dance. He was an incredible fighter your eyes following his every move as you watched in reverent silence. Dwalin was deftly blocking each one of his attacks with his own blade, as if he was hardly trying. Fili suddenly threw his hands up and Dwalin stepped back.
âWhat is it lad?â he asked, hardly any strain in his voice considering the effort he had just exerted.
âIâm just a little warm. Hold on a moment.â Fili said, slightly puffing.
He dropped his swords and grasped the hem of his light cotton shirt pulling it over his head in one smooth movement, exposing his perfectly chiselled torso. He flung it away and stretched his arms a little causing his muscles to flex and contract, you watched him now with more than just interest in his sword technique. Light blond hairs covered his muscular chest, and thinned into a single line which dragged your eyes downward over his body, taking note of his defined abs, as you saw the line of hair disappear into his pants. His arms were strong and covered in dwarven tattoos, some of which tangled from his biceps onto his chest and back. You had never seen a form like his while living among the elves. Fili was all defined muscle, body hair and tattoos. Elves were strong but lithe with perfectly smooth skin. You had never once taken any notice of Fili in this way before, you had only ever seen him as a close friend. But now confronted with his exquisite body and skill you couldnât help yourself. A small sigh left your lips as your eyes burned into his naked back. Filiâs head whipped around at the sound, luckily you were well hidden and he didnât see you. You had kept your presence a secret too long and would be embarrassed to announce yourself now. Filiâs eyes searched over your hiding place but he didnât seem to find the source of the noise.
This fic is based on a request from anon to my old blog:
Can I request something with you and Kili having to talk about the fact that you're human and won't live nearly as long as him? Please please please? :)
Kili x Reader (all)
Warnings: slightly graphic descriptions of a battlefield and an allusion to suicide. If either of these things trigger you please do not keep reading. Otherwise this is fluff, no smut.
AN: Set just after the Battle of the Five Armies. Bit of an alternate universe type vibe, youâll see why. Drawing on Peter Jackson and Aidan Turnerâs interpretation of Kili Durin. A tiny bit of Bagginshield in here too which is nice. Also I donât see reader as competing with Tauriel, maybe Tauriel does not exist in this AU at all. She is at least not mentioned in this fic. Once again this fic is coming to your from almost 10 years in the past. I have done some heavy editing work on this. I hope you enjoy.
The Eaglesâ cries sound shrilly in the distance as you slowly regain consciousness. Blinking your eyes and becoming painfully aware of a dull ache in your head, you try to figure out where you are. One hand searches blindly along the ground for a weapon, anything for your fingers to close around, the other slowly finds the back of your head, feeling your hair matted with drying blood. Slowly you start recall why you are laying on the side of a mostly frozen river in a pool of your own blood. Pushing yourself up to kneeling you start scanning the ground for your sword, locating it to your right and using it to push yourself almost to standing. The pain in your head is now unbearable and sharp pains shoot through your left leg as you will it to take more of your weight. As your eyes adjust to the light you look around, bodies of orcs, goblins, men, elves and dwarves alike were strewn in every direction.Â
BodiesâŠDwarvesâŠfinally the realisation of why you were in this mire of misery starts to pull at your consciousness.Â
The last you remember, Thorin had sent yourself, Fili and Kili to scout the tower in Ravenhill for orcs. There had been an ambush, more orcs than you had expected. The three of you had drawn them out of the tower to fight on more even terrain on the banks of the river. You remember covering Kili on the ground alongside Fili as he shot arrow after arrow at the orc foot soldiers. Fili had seen Thorin in distress and shouted at Kili to cover his dash towards the river and to his King.Â
You limped to the middle of the small clearing by the river, to a stop in the middle of the battlefield once again leaning heavily on your sword as you recall further.Â
Bolg.Â
It was Bolg who had surprised you, outflanking you both and taking Kili off guard, knocking him off his feet. Before Bolg could follow up his attack, you brought your sword, two hand grip, into his middle, with your entire bodyweight behind you. You could feel the shock running back through your arms even now, such was the force you had struck him with. You strained to remember what had happened next. Did Kili get to his feet? You werenât quite sure. Bolg was not easily beaten. You had engaged in combat with him, skilfully deflecting his blows, but unable to cause any real damage or break through his armour. ThenâŠ
"KILI!" you scream aloud, remembering.
Kili had jumped on Bolg from behind, a dagger flashing in his hand as he went for Bolgâs throat. You had tried to help, but misjudged your timing. Boltâs huge fist had connected with your head and sent you flying backwards, hitting the ground hard, loosing consciousness. Bringing yourself back to the present, you realised that you had tears in your eyes.
"KILI!" you choke out again.
âKili." you croak as you try to take a step and are immediately felled by the pain in your left leg, now aware of a large gash, still slowly bleeding, across your thigh.
Gritting your teeth against the pain, you get to your feet once more. Slowly you limp, searching through the bodies lying in unnatural positions, limbs strewn at sickly angles across the ground around you. Your eyes search for the company, but only one, the one you must find, is the one for whom you desperately seek. The one for whom you scream.
"Kili, please don't be dead. Please don't be dead." you say croak through sobs, still limping through the carnage of battle, becoming more desperate with every painful step.
"Y/n!" you heard a hoarse voice cry.
Your head whipped around in search of the voices owner, squinting your eyes, looking for signs of life. You see him, lying on a ledge close to the river, his face looking in your direction, the huge body of Bolg pinning him to the ground.
"KILI!" you scream, as you drop your sword and scramble like a wounded animal towards him.
"Kili." you sobbed as you pulled and pushed at the mortal remains of Bolg, trying to free the young dwarf.
âOoofâ strained Kili as he tried to help you move the mountain of fell flesh.
You dropped to your knees from the pain and effort.
âY/n." he said softly bringing a bloodied hand up to touch your cheek.
Feeling his touch gave your another surge of strength. Quickly your hands searched him for life threatening injuries and were relieved to find none. Probable broken ribs and nothing more then superficial wounds was your immediate prognosis. Ăin could check him over further once you had gotten him off this god forsaken river bank and back to the Halls of EreborâŠassuming there still were Halls of Erebor or even that Ăin was still able to checkâŠthe gravity of the situation was all of a sudden too much. The pain in your head and leg were now impossible to ignore, suddenly you could hear a faint ringing in your ears. Eyesight going fuzzy, you collapsed at Kiliâs side.Â
You heard him swear. âOh Mahal. Y/n. Y/n please wake up. I can see the Eagles, theyâre coming back for us. Please, stay with me.â He whispered, rolling to his side, swearing again at the pain in his ribs.
As though in a dream, you felt faraway, but were vaguely aware of Kiliâs hands searching you for injury. Gently touching the back of your head and hesitating over your left thigh. You heard a far off sound like the ripping of cloth and you were faintly aware of a sudden pressure on your upper left thigh. You tried to wriggle away but found your limbs uncooperative.
âStay still now Y/n.â You heard Kili say somewhere in the distance. He stroked your hair whispering softly in Khuzdul in your ear till help came.Â
That was the day you realised you could never live without Kili and he realised he could never live without you. The crushing, all consuming blackness you felt when you thought him dead was something you would never be able to go through again.
You and Kili were married in the Spring, new life taking hold over a place that for so long had only known death and destruction.
The following winter saw the King Under the Mountain, and his Kin comfortably living in Erebor. Thorin had taken a consort, the jolly hafling Bilbo Baggins, the ceremony had been a small one, attended only by the company, and Thorinâs sister Dis. There were young ones in the mountain once more too, a relation of Bilboâs arrived with a small Hobbit child named Frodo to entrust into his and Thorinâs capable care. Fili and Kili had been having a wonderful time acting as uncles to the child. It had made your heart grow warm watching your love help raise the little hobbit. The rest of the company and their kin were making the once cold and desolate mountain feel cheery and warm.Â
Sat in a small alcove, you watched as a group of dwarrowmaidens passed and you subconsciously reached a hand up to stroke your chin, it was smooth, unlike the hair that grew on their faces. You were keenly aware that you were different. One of the race of Men, not a Hobbit or Dwarf. There were many differences between your own race and that of the dwarves. Most of the time, you were unbothered by these thoughts. You weren't even unhappy about being taller then Kili, and he didnât seem to mind your lack of facial hair either. Kili was a fine dwarf and a fine lover. Always attentive to your needs, kind and caring. He was perfect, a better partner could not be found in your own world of Men. Now he was young, and full of energy but with time he would age, grow a long white beard just like Balin. You smiled thinking of and older Kili, Kili with a long white beard, then it hit you.
"I'll never see him get there. I won't grow old with Kili." you whispered out loud to yourself, completely taken aback by the thought.
"Are you talking to yourself y/n? Because folk will think you're going mad." came a familiar voice full of humour.
You looked up and saw Kili, your Kili, and the tears started to fall freely from your eyes. Kili looked shocked, unable to understand your reaction. He sat down beside you and pulled you into his chest. Stroking your hair and kissing your head.
"What's wrong AmrĂąlimĂȘ?" he whispered into your ear, slightly rocking you back and forward trying to comfort you.
"I'm going to die!" you choked out a little too dramatically.
"We're all going to die love." he replied trying not to chuckle at your outburst.
"No Kili, I'm going to die. I'm going to grow old and die long before your beard even turns white. Do you understand? I will be an old woman while you will have barley grown a full beard." you said desperately burying your head in his chest again continuing to sob.
"Y/n, why do you worry? You are only twenty eight. We have many more years together yet. You think I would not love you just because you age? What an opinion you must have of me.â he said calmly, a hint of feigned offence in his voice, and a small smile still tugging at his lips.
You pulled away from him so you could look him in the eye.
"If....I mean if you don't want me...when I'm old and my hair goes grey...I...I'll understand. Iâll age so much faster than you.â you choked out.
Kili looked at you his eyes wide with disbelief, the smile falling from his face.
"Y/n I will love through every season of your life. You will be beautiful throughout them all. I love you with every beat of my heart, every fibre of my being. If you think I'd give you up for vanity you are wrong. The only way we will ever be parted is if you go where I can not follow." Kili said, tears now rolling down his cheeks.
"Oh Kili, I didn't mean to insult you. I'm so sorry." you said between your own sobs.
"All at once I thought that we shall never grow old together, I will never share in the twilight of your life, it is a tragedy for me to think of such things. I do not want to go where you can not follow. I love you AmrĂąlimĂȘ." you said quietly. âI do not wish to ever be the cause of your pain.â
"I know, I know." he hushed you, pulling you into a hug once more.
"Our souls were made for one another, to be together for eternity once they met." he said quietly as he stroked your hair once more.
You relaxed into his touch and closed your eyes. Kili smiled into your hair.
"AmrĂąlimĂȘ you could never go where I could not follow, I'd be right behind you, waiting in the Halls of Mandos for the End and for you.â he murmured.
A very short little fic based on this prompt from ImagineXHobbit Â
Could I request a drabble for "Imagine expressions on companyâs faces, when in the morning they discover you sleeping on Thorinâs big, warm chest in blissful embrace"?Â
Thorin/Fem reader
FluffÂ
Disclaimer: This is a bit of fluff. Nothing offensive at all. Unfortunately I do not own any of these amazing characters
AN: I wrote this such a long time ago. So long ago that the blog I found the prompt on has been inactive for three years and I wrote it a long time before then. I have tidied it up though and present it to you now for your consideration and criticism.Â
You had been travelling for what felt like an age, trying to out run the pack of Orcs that had been tracking Thorin Oakenshield and his company. Since your short stay at Rivendell, it felt as if Thorin had not made rest a priority, but putting as many miles between his company, interfering Elves and Warg riding Orcs, as possible. Everyone was dragging their feet, heaving their packs and weapons along. Ori was almost asleep on his feet, you could hear Bomburâs stomach rumbling and the slow click clack of his pots and pans as they swayed with his footsteps. Bilbo was practically falling asleep on his walking stick. Oin looked nervously at his ailing kin, skilled healer though he was, mass fatigue would be hard to treat with this limited store of herbs. Dwalin and Thorin were the only members of the company not outwardly showing any signs of fatigue save a slightly glazed look over their eyes. Fili and Kili were trying to hurry along after their uncle, but even they, usually so full of energy, were beginning to trip over themselves, huffing and puffing. All that could be heard after a while was the heavy clump, clump, clump of dwarf boots on hard earth. You were finding the never ceasing march particularly wearing, unlike the company you were not a dwarf, but one of the race of Men. Dwarves, it was said, were built by their maker AulĂ«, in Khuzdul; Mahal, to be strong and hardy beings as the rock and earth they were hewn from. Slow to fatigue, and resistant to illness. This had become very clear to you during your travels with them. Sure you had been raised with dwarves, but you were still made like Men and were finding this journey hard. A long time ago, when you were just a bairn, a kindly Dwarf-woman had taken you in when your kin were slaughtered by Orcs on their way to trade with the Dwarves of the Blue Mountains. You had grown to be lithe and athletic, about 5â tall, only just taller than the dwarves of the Blue Mountains who had raised you. You learned Dwarvish ways quickly, proved yourself an expert metallurgist and a skilled fighter. Your grasp on Khuzdul could rival even Balin, and the Dwarves of the Blue Mountains grew fond and fiercely protective of you. You came of age just as the mighty Thorin Oakenshield announced his quest to reclaim Erebor and immediately volunteered to join the company. Although reluctant to put you in harms way at first, your use to the company as one who could treat with Men and your skill as a fighter outweighed the risks and Thorin, Dwalin and Balin welcomed your help. Help which you freely gave out of your gratitude and love for the race of Dwarves who had saved you.
After what seemed another whole age of trudging along the path Kili dramatically threw his hands in the air and exclaimed, âWe sound like a pack of Oliphants Uncle! Even the most deaf of orcs could hear us!âÂ
Fili looking wildly between Kili and his uncle, expecting to become an only child none to soon. He gave his brother a shove hissing, âOliphantâs donât exist you idiot, shut up! Youâll get us all skinned!â
Thorin stopped, causing the rest of the company to abruptly halt behind him. Muffled âOoofsâ and the sounds of Bomburâs clattering pots and pans filled the silence that followed the before unceasing thud of boots on hard ground. Faces slowly turned to look between the fearless leader and young raven haired dwarf. Even though you knew the wrath of Thorin was not to be treated lightly, you couldnât help but hope that his disciplining of Kili would take some time so the company could sit down and rest a moment. From the looks on the others faces you could tell they were thinking the same. Even Kili did not look frightened but relieved that he could finally stop walking. Thorin turned and surveyed his company, taking note of the tired, bent forms before him. He turned to his nephews, Fili leaning on one of his swords and Kili grasping at his brothers shoulder to stay upright. Privately you thought they might be exaggerating their fatigue levels, but at this point you were for anything that would get Thorin to stop driving the company like beasts of burden and let you all rest.
A flicker of worry passed over Thorinâs face as he gazed on his company. To Fili and Kili he ordered, âScout out ahead for a clearing to make camp, we need rest.â He turned to the rest of the company âWe could not take a small group of half starved goblins in this state, let alone a pack of hunting orcs, and come out alive. We are weary with travel.â
Fili almost overbalanced on his sword and looked at his uncle in disbelief. Kili gazed at Thorin with a wide tired smile on his face, not quite believing his luck. But both remained staring until Thorin growled âWhat are you two waiting for? An invitation? Go!â
The spell was broken and the two young dwarves turned on their heels moving quickly and quietly into the forest, Kili gripping his bow and Fili with one of his swords protectively on guard out in front of him. With a collective groan the rest of the company moved into the shadows of the trees taking time to sit down and rest their feet. This journey had proven dangerous and tiring, had it not been for the company of all your friends, nae kin, you would have given up the quest long ago. As you tried to rub your feet through your huge boots Thorin sat down beside you and stared down the path. He ran a hand through his curly dark hair.
âIt has been a long, hard journey already and we are not even half way.â He sighed, half talking to you, half talking to himself.
âIt has been long and hard.â You agreed, and quickly added âBut it has also been an adventure beyond belief. I have seen so many things I had never thought real or possible, Iâve fought alongside my friends, nae my kin, although I do not share your blood, I love you all as if I do. I donât regret a single minute of it, not at all.â You trailed off slightly, not sure if Thorin was actually listening to you. Â
âYour help has been instrumental in getting us this far y/n. I appreciate your service and your company. Although not kin by blood, you are indeed loved.â Thorin said turning to smile at you.Â
His smile was sincere, and it made you blush. Thankfully his attention was directed elsewhere from your reddening face as Fili and Kili crashed though the undergrowth onto the path calling out to Thorin as they went.
âUncle Thorin!â panted Kili as both brothers came to a halt before him.
âThere is a clearing not far from here, with plenty of space for rest and a lake nearby for washing and water.â Gasped Fili, clutching at a stitch in his side. The two brothers had clearly run the whole way back to the path, their shoulderâs heaving as they tried to catch their breath. A slight sheen of sweat visible on their brows.
Thorin got to his feet and spoke âCome all, let us follow Fili and Kili to the clearing and rest through the afternoon and into the evening. We must gather our strength for the rest of our journey.â
He motioned to the young princes to lead the way, you and the company scrambled to your feet, willing yourselves to trudge that little bit further with the promise of rest. It took almost no time at all to reach the clearing. Immediately Oin got to work on a fire and Bombur readied his pots for a hearty meal. The rest of the company threw down their packs, some collapsing down with them, others stalking off to the lake for a wash. Being the only female in the company when it came time to bathe you had to wait for Balin to step in to wrangle his kin and little Bilbo back to camp so you could have some privacy. You were always thankful for that, although you loved the company, you didnât relish the idea of taking off your clothes and splashing around in the water with them. Balin, ever the gentleman, knew this without even asking you.
As you were at the tail end of the company, by the time you had got to the clearing all of the decent sleeping spots most near the fire had been claimed and you dropped your pack down near the edge of the clearing. A little privacy might be nice anyway you thought to yourself, although you could feel the evening chill in the air. You shivered a little.
âAhhhh Miss y/n.â you heard a little voice say.
You turned around and smiled. âYes Bilbo.â
âI ah, I couldnât help but notice that you seem a little cold, and I um, I would gladly offer you my place by the fire.â He said politely, nodding his head slightly and gesturing towards the fire.
You could see that the little Hobbit was just as cold as you, probably more. You wouldnât let him give his spot away for you, you were too fond of the little fellow.
âBilbo that is very kind of you but I would not see one of my friends out in the cold because of me. I have my furs I will be fine. You are a kind Hobbit.â You said fondly. You gave him a quick squeeze around the shoulders, he looked up at you, smiled and shrugged his shoulders. He wandered over towards the lake quickly, before you could change your mind and take him up on his chivalrous offer. You chuckled, he was an amusing little halfling. You set to the task of clearing an area to sleep, kicking away any stray stones and sticks, trying to flatten out the area as much as possible. You reached into your pack for your fur wrap, but when your hand closed on it instead of the feeling of beautiful, velvety soft fur, you were met with the feeling of damp, matted hair.
âMahal.â You swore under your breath.Â
Your water sack had sprung a leak all over your only fur wrap. The sun was already setting and you knew it would never dry before tonight, not even if you set it right beside the fire. Resigned to your cold fate you flung your wrap over a branch where it would hopefully have time to dry before you moved on from here in the morning. The offending water sack was hurled into the fire, cracking and spluttering, with a confused look from Bofur who was trying to warm his feet, socks steaming from the heat.
âSorry.â You sighed as you sat down next to Bofur with your travelling cloak wrapped around your shoulders. He smiled and nodded to you in acceptance of your apology. Bofur hummed quietly to himself as his socks steamed and he cleaned out his pipe. You smiled to yourself comforted by his quiet calm. At least you could try to stay warm for the moment while most of the company were in the lake washing and splashing.
Unbeknownst to you Thorin had seen you struggling with your sopping wet furs from the edge of the clearing where he was in discussion with Dwalin making plans for the next part of the journey. He sighed to himself worrying about you in the cold without any fur to keep you warm. The likes of Men are not built to withstand the elements and he worried further reflecting on this fact. He was jolted out of his train of thought when Bombur started bashing on his pots calling out that it was dinnertime. Honestly Dwarves never move quicker then they do when the reward is food. Fili and Kili came tearing through the campsite, all wet hair, bare torsos and feet. These dwarves would not even prioritise clothing to combat the chill in the air over the call of fresh rabbit stew! Soon the whole company was lined up for their dinner and then retiring to their places of rest to eat and be merry, trying to forget the hurt in their limbs from the constant walking. You threaded your way between Ori and Nori, over to your sleeping mat and sat down, wrapping your shoulders closer with your cloak against the cold night air and holding onto your rabbit stew tightly for extra warmth. As everybody finished their evening meal the chatter turned into a low rumble as the dwarves started falling asleep. Soon even Fili and Kili had stopped teasing poor Bilbo and had gone to sleep, you could hear Filiâs soft snoring from where you were huddled. Dwalin was sitting on the edges of the clearing taking the first watch, hardened warrior that he was he didnât need as much sleep as the others. You tried to lie down and get some desperately needed sleep but the ground was cold and you could not get comfortable. You sighed and realised even though you were so tired your eyes could fall out of your head; you were getting no sleep tonight.Â
âY/n.â you heard a deep voice whisper.
You turned you head to see where the voice came from, straining your eyes in the dying firelight. It was Thorin. He was leaned up against a tree at the edge of camp, draped in his furs.
He met your gaze with his own and whispered, âAre you cold IbinĂȘ? Come.â
He opened his arms and his furs with them, staring into your eyes inviting you to join him. You could feel a familiar heat rise on your cheeks but you didnât care. It was cold and Thorin was promising you warmth, you could hardly refuse such an offer cold as you were. Slowly you got to your feet and quietly walked to him at the edge of the clearing, sinking down beside him. He draped the furs around your shoulders and pulled you in close to his chest. He felt warm and safe wrapped around you as you gratefully nestled your head under his neck. His chest was broad and strong, his beard tickled you a little as you cuddled closer to him, enjoying the slow rise and fall of his breathing. He smelled earthy and of tobacco, it was comforting and familiar.
âThank you.â You managed to quietly chatter through your teeth.
âThe pleasure is all mine.â He growled quietly in your ear, holding you ever more firmly to him. He waited a moment before speaking softly again âI could not let you freeze in the cold, I care for you too much y/n. On this journey I have had the chance to get to know you, your strength, your compassion. You fight for my Kin, your kin, with fire, loyalty. I look into your eyes and see all the jewels of the earth reflected back to me. I wish that I should know you better.â
At first you were speechless. A Dwarven King and Son of Durin could never speak such things to one of Men such as you. Returning his gaze you noticed his beautiful, blue eyes glinting in the firelight. âI should also like to know you better Thorin.â
âI am glad y/n. May I kiss you ibinĂȘ?â He whispered as he leaned his face to yours, lips almost brushing your own.
âPlease.âyou whisper back. He slowly pressed his lips to yours. They were rough, but warm against your own, and you smiled slightly into them enjoying the sensation. He pulled away and you sighed quietly in annoyance.
Thorin chuckled softly and whispered âIt is time to have your rest now y/n, there will be plenty more time for knowing each other better when you are not so exhausted.â
You nodded, but stole one more quick kiss before snuggling back against his chest, making Thorin snort quietly with laughter. You enjoyed how his short beard tickled your forehead, as he pressed a small kiss to the top of your head. You fell into a restful sleep in the arms of the King to be. Dwalin came back to camp to wake Bofur for his turn at watch and caught sight of you and Thorin. He smiled to himself, seeing his King so content and soundlessly left you both to your dreams.
Morning came, Fili and Kili were the first to wake, making a raucous poking everybody in reach to wake them up. Soon Kiliâs gaze fell on you and Thorin, cuddled together against the tree. His mouth opened and closed rather like a fish, he was trying to find the right words to say and finally settled on quieting his brother.
âFili shhhhhh!â urged Kili.
âWhat do you mean ruining my fun?â Fili started whining but quickly stopped, mouth agape, when he looked to see what Kili was pointing at. Â
By this stage all the camp had been roused by the young princes commotion and were all now quietly staring at the two entwined figures, silently sleeping against the tree. Some faces full of curiosity, others full of wonder and some full of confusion. Bilbo was just staring mouth agape, his cheeks a little pink. That is when Balin stood up, having decided that all this gawping was quite enough. He walked quietly over to Thorin and tapped on his shoulder.
âThorin, I do believe it is time to pack up camp and move on.â He said quietly.
Thorin stirred and opened his eyes. Looking around at all the surprised faces in his camp.Â
He chuckled then smiled up at Balin âWell get this lot packed and ready to go then.â
âRight you are.â Said Balin, he turned to the others âWell you heard the man!â
The camp busily started to pack up, not really understanding what was going on but not wishing to defy Thorinâs orders. Thorin realised that you had slept through the whole exchange, snuggled into his chest, furs slightly covering your face. He placed small kisses on your forehead.
âItâs time to wake up y/n.â He said quietly in your ear. âIts time to go.â
You stirred and opened your eyes, Thorin was staring right back into them. Well at least it wasnât a dream you thought drowsily to yourself. Then he leaned down to kiss you and you were sure it wasnât a dream. His beard tickled your cheeks as you kissed him back. Finally you peeled yourself away from him, he stood up and offered you a hand to do the same.
âThank you for sharing your furs with me.â You say shyly as you move towards your belongings.
âWell I couldnât have you freezing could I?â Thorin asked playfully.
You laugh and turn to your pack, rolling up your sleeping mat and shoving your fur wrap on top. âMahal.â You swear, realising the fur is still damp. âThere is no way this is going to dry in my pack today.â You say sadly to yourself.
âIbinĂȘ, I donât think you will be needing that wrap again.â Thorin said quietly in your ear as he came to stand beside you. âYou will always find warmth and comfort with me.â
âMy mudĂčmel.â you whispered back, allowing your fingers to graze over his hand lightly. Thorin smiles slightly at your use of his father tongue.Â
Loudly he addresses the company âCome, we must make haste. We have little time before the last light of Durinâs Day. Let us retake our home!â.
