enough is enough
Last night I was haunted by thoughts about the murder of singer Christina Grimmie that happened a couple days ago. I never met her and nor did I get a chance to listen to her music prior to her death. But I couldnât stop thinking about Christina. I caught her live once at iHeartRadio music awards in 2015 and she sounded like an angel. Now she is with the angels. As I was drifting off to sleep, I was possessed by imagining the peace of Christinaâs meet and greet at the venue in Orlando, and how the moment was disrupted by bullets.
Little did I know, as I was wondering what Christinaâs personality must have been like and how many people are mourning over her, another attack was going down in Orlando. As I was wrapping my head around how someone could possibly be motivated to shoot an innocent human, a gay nightclub turned into a bloodbath.
It is so troubling to think that a place where people come to dance, celebrate, and forget about their worries, has been violated. Music venues are like second homes for some of us. When I am in that space, I am completely present. The last thing on my mind is whether or not my life, as well as the life of my sister, crew, and fans is in danger.
These music events are often symbolic of tolerance and coexistence, as we just experienced at LA PRIDE festival a few days ago. Our safe places have been threatened.
And as I trying to make sense of these shootings that happened in the past few days, I am reminded of the shooting at UCLA that happened just 10 days ago.
How many times do we have to hear about someoneâs life being taken for us to realize that we need to reform our gun laws? I donât know what the right decision is regarding gun control so Iâm not going to act like a purveyor of wisdom regarding the law and how background checks should be doneâŠ
But what I do know is that humans are fucking crazy. Humans have the capacity to hate, go insane, hold grudges, abuse drugs, have a temper, develop violent tendenciesâŠ
Our primitive brains are simply not equipped enough to handle guns.
My heart is weeping for the lives taken this week, and their families and friends in mourning. Let us not give up on humanity. Please maintain peace and love within your communities. That will reverberate across the country.

Some of you are reblogging because you think its funny that programmers would talk to ducks. Iâm reblogging because I think its funny picturing a programmer explaining their code, realizing what they did when they explain the bad code, then grabbing the strangling the duck while yelling âWHY WAS THE FIX THAT SIMPLE!? AM I GOING BLIND!â
AS A PROGRAMMER I CAN TELL YOU THAT THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT YOU FUCKING DO WE HAD TO BAN THE DUCKS FROM MY CLASSES BECAUSE EVERYONE WOULD FLIP THE DUCK OR THROW IT AT A WALL OR SOMETHING WHEN THEY FIGURED OUT THE PROBLEM IN THEIR CODE
I work at a startup and part of the onboarding package you get when you first start working here now includes a rubber duck. We also have a bigger version of the duck for the extra hard problems. Sometimes one duck doesnât cut it and you need to borrow your neighbors to get more ducks on the problem. One time we couldnât figure out why something wasnât working right so we assembled the counsel of ducks and by the grace of the Duck Gods were we able to finally come to a solution. These ducks have saved many lives and should be respected for the heroes they are.

Donald Trumpâs Chicago rally Friday night was canceled as large crowds of about 1000 Black Lives Matter and Anti-Trump protesters amassed inside and outside the arena, leading organizers to fear for the âsafety and security of those gathered.â
Protesters walked throughout the arena, arms linked, holding up signs, and even chanting âBernie!!â, showing Trump just how Chicago welcomes people like him

An open letter to the Tumblr Staff from the blogger you just screwed over
Okay, staff, I am super freaking pissed about the update and hereâs why.Â
I cannot read your new format.Â
Iâm not trying to be whiny or nitpicky or over-dramatic. I can appreciate that you were attempting to make things look more organised/less confusing/whatever. I also expect the new format is a great improvement for people who have screen readers. Thatâs great. Thatâs fine.Â
I just cannot freaking read this. I have dyslexia, and my dyslexia is set off by pictures, bold, italics, anything that is more âinterestingâ to my brain than plain, unadorned text.
Like this monstrosity:
Look at it. Just look at it. The pictures get in between the lines of text, thereâs distracting colors and pictures everywhere. The names are bolded when theyâre really not the most important thing. Looking at this, I see everything except what Iâm supposed to see, that cheesy series of puns. (No pun intended.)
You literally couldnât have made a worse format for me if youâd tried.
The thing is, your format was what made me really like Tumblr in the first place. It was super clear who was writing something new, because look, there was a freaking line pointing right to it. Unless someone started writing in all caps or bold or whatever, all the text in a post had the same amount of emphasis. Finally, SOMETHING ON THE INTERNET I COULD READ.
And now, now I canât read any of it at all.Â
So yeah, Iâm pissed.Â
Like, I know that youâre not going to change it back, because you never seem to listen when anyone on your site complains about anything. Iâm not sure why I bothered writing this to you guys, given your track record.Â
But nowâs your chance to prove me wrong. Seriously, the least you could do is give us an option here. Youâve still got the old code. Just stick a button somewhere to revert to the old format so I can enjoy my text posts in peace.Â
Sincerely,Â
Dyslexic Blogger
SIGNAL BOOST because I really hope Tumblr pays attention to this. Iâm sure Miranielâs not the only Tumblr blogger/reader in this position.Â
