Annabeth's Blonde Crisis

In the Mark of Athena, when the girls meet Aphrodite/Venus in Charleston, Annabeth says she never liked being blonde because people didn't take her seriously thanks to the dumb, giggly blonde stereotype. Just for reference, I'm blonde. We'll start there.

When Annabeth said people didn't take her seriously, she WAS NOT SAYING she was more oppressed than anyone else. She was saying that IN HER EXPERIENCE, people tended to at first think she wasn't smart. You know that Basic White Bitch stereotype? Yeah, that. And all the dumb blonde jokes. Stuff like that. It's kinda annoying.

Saying that doesn't make her Republican. Annabeth Chase is probably the least Republican rich-California-girl you can find (yeah, her parents are rich, shush). Saying she's annoyed that people don't take her seriously is FUCKING VALID. Most women experience that, not just blonde white women, and the blonde stereotype doesn't help any.

I also think that Rick gave her a Not Like Other Girls streak in HoO, when she was 16/17, which annoyed the heck out of me because we all know Annabeth was raised by Selina Beauregard and grew up in the least stereotypical place possible.

Annabeth's saying that she feels like she isn't taken seriously isn't fucking insensitive. It isn't her saying that she feels more oppressed than anyone else. Since when was she saying she had it the worst? Since when was she saying her life was harder than anyone else's? That's not her being selfish, that's her being bothered by the way other people perceive her because they're wrong about her.

Jason Grace + Stuffed Animals

I want Jason Grace to have a stuffed animal. A stuffed wolf, maybe.

Not just because it would be cute, though.

The psychology behind having stuffies/pacifiers/baby blankets is that they're comfort items. They're something you've had since you were a child. They symbolize a hand to hold or a time where there was less anxiety. If they're taken away from you before you are ready give them up yourself, you will look for a new comfort item (which is usually drugs, alcohol, etc.) because your mind is stabilized by this thing.

-Jason remembers his stuffed wolf a week after his quest. It was a present Thalia had given him for his first birthday, and his mother left it with him at the Wolf House. He'd had it ever since. He asks Thalia the next time he sees her if she could bring him to a store, maybe a Walmart to get a new one, and she agrees.

-At the store, he finds not a wolf stuffy, but a fluffy golden retriever stuffy, and Thalia buys it for him because she wants to give him his childhood back, and what better way to do so than to get him a new stuffy? She almost cries.

-He brings it into his cabin quickly, but not ashamed. He sets it in the little cove and sits there with it, like they're getting to know each other.

-The only other person who knows about this is Chiron, who gave them permission to go out into the city, and he decides to put some stuffed animals into the camp store for everyone to see and "buy" if they want.

-Jason brings his golden retriever stuffy on the Argo II, and when Leo asks about it, Jason tells him the whole story. Leo tells him that he had a brown cat stuffy before his mom died.

-When Jason and Piper take their stroll in New Rome, the first stop they make is Jason's old preator quarters. He picks up his wolf stuffy and asks Piper if she can help him get it to the ship.

-When Jason gets knocked out and is sleeping on the Argo II, Piper puts his wolf stuffy in his arms. He wakes up and grins at her, thankful for the familiar feel of the stuffy.

-When Annabeth and Percy fall into Tartarus, Jason privately cries with his two stuffies.

‐When the Argo II blows up, Jason makes sure to save his stuffies and get them to the Zeus cabin just before they fight, just in case.

-When Jason moves back to California, he brings his stuffies with him.

- *SPOILER ALERT* When Jason dies, the stuffies disappear from his dorm and reappear on his bed in Elysium.

Home Fandoms

I'm in a lot of fandoms, and I go through a lot of fandom phases, but I always seem to come back to one specific fandom. I'll never get tired of it, I'll never forget it, I'll never grow out of it.

That's my home fandom. I dabble a lot in other fandoms, travel to different worlds, get lost in other fantasy forests, but I'll always come back to my home fandom.

My home fandom is the one I grew up with and the one that grew up with me. I wanted to be there, I put myself into the stories, I created new characters, I watched new ones come in and old ones go out. I related to the characters. I lived my childhood in those books.

And no matter how my life turns out, I'll always have a home to come back to and friends to revisit.

I think that's really comforting.

And men are definitely the one's holding women to beauty standards. I've never had a woman insult or shame me for no wearing makeup, not shaving or cutting my hair short, but I've had plenty of men do it.

Women typically lifted me up and complimented me for my bare face and short hair, while I've had men tell me I would look better with more makeup and long hair.

Percabeth vs. Perachel

LISTEN GUYS. Stop hating on Perachel. Just stop. Please. Go hate on Roctavian or something that actually sucks.

We all know Percabeth is the #1 ship of the entire Riordanverse. That's a fact, even if they're not your OTP. Percabeth is the most iconic pairing of the whole fandom.

That doesn't mean you have to hate on Rachel!!! It doesn't even mean you have to hate on Perachel!!!

For one thing, Rachel is a canonly cute teenage girl with a crush on a canonly hot teenage guy, and feelings sprouted, so when she asked him to kiss her and he got all red and blushy and they were interrupted so she kissed him? COMPLETELY UNDERSTANDABLE. She didn't even know about Annabeth's crush at the time!

Now about Rachel's character: she's an artist. She has an artist vibe. She's neglected by her parents. She sees things no one in her life has seen. She has weird dreams that seem to come true. Her parents ask if she needs a therapist, but she just needs answers.

She meets a cute guy with a sword. He and his friends have answers. That summer, she goes into an underground maze with this cute guy, his best friend and an angsty, emo pre-teen with necromancy skills to go beat up their Titan granddad who's taken over the body of their former mentor and find this guy who's supposed to be dead after thousands of years, and comes out if it all with no significant mental damage.

The next summer, this guy gets HOT. Like, sure, he was cute before, but that TAN and that JAWLINE and those MUSCLES. And he's single. (Lil Caesar's; hot n' ready!) And they spend the summer together, enough for Rachel to be comfortable with asking him to go on vacation with her family. Why shouldn't she ask him to kiss her? I WOULD.

Later on, she finds out that he wasn't ever meant to be her boyfriend (she might even realize Annabeth's feelings? Not sure). She figures out that she was just drawn to him because he was her way of finding her final answer: to be the Oracle of Delphi.

This hot guy starts dating his best friend? OMG SO CUTE 😍 treat her okay, mister. Have a wonderful rest of your summer, while I'm forced off to a boarding school for "young ladies."

Rachel is so chill and unproblamatic!!! Leave her alone!!! If all you see her as is an obstacle between Percabeth, that's really sexist!!! She's not just there to be a romantic interest!!! She's a whole personality-filled character!!! Woah!!!

So anyway, back to the first sentence, Percy and Annabeth are best friends. They would do pretty much anything for each other right off the bat. Percy's fatal flaw is fucking LOYALTY, so of course he's going to do anything in his power to make sure she's safe (right along with everyone else he loves). He respects her and keeps his distance and he knows her boundaries, and he also wants to protect her as one does when they're in a life-or-death situation.

Oh, and when he realizes he has a crush on her and starts dating her? Relationships are about caring for each other and making the other person feel that and know they're loved.
