As much as I enjoy the Lauren and March “another lauren father figure bit the dust” jokes, the tragedy of March’s betrayal is just as impactful without him being a parental figure for Lauren.

Lauren has Tristan and Dakan, she has the memory of her own parents which is then tarnished with the revelation that they were apostles, she doesn’t need another parental figure. What Lauren needed was someone who just genuinely believed in her and her capabilities. Tristan loves her unconditionally, and of course Tristan and Dakan do genuinely believe in Lauren, but March was always someone who stood up for her based on the merit of her skills and character. You can of course read their relationship as familial, but he was supposed to be her outside mentor and later colleague. Lauren knew she had his respect and approval, but he would probably betray her again if he had the choice. In another world he was her Jim Gordon, with time she could have become his equal in the precinct, but they’ll never have that chance. idk if any of this makes sense i just love their dynamic

i’m totally on board with this.

one of the things i’m most excited to see when ph returns is how lauren reacts to march’s betrayal and death. she gets kidnapped in the middle of getting confirmation so we’ve only seen the initial shock.

of course it will be brutal because of their relationship, but i think it’s also going to be brutal because anything she’s done as a detective, or even a patrol officer, probably just went straight back to the phantom scythe through march when it was relevant. her “accomplishments” there may not be that at all because her jim gordon was a spy.

and, because she didn’t hear him lie for so long, i think it’ll make her question her ability to detect lies.

his betrayal is a huge hit in so many ways beyond just the loss and hurt and confusing personal feelings about that. i think it’s going to make her question a lot of things about herself and her abilities during a time when they’re in more danger than ever.

this post reminded me that a few weeks ago a waiter at the cheesecake factory told me i shouldn’t order the pineapple mezcal because i wouldn’t be able to “handle” the smoke and “no one actually likes it.”

YOU can’t handle the smoke you fool. i know what i’m about and what i’m about is a good tropical reposado/mezcal combo.

when i downed that thing, he said “you’re actually crazy for that” and then apologized because that’s not a very customer service thing to say.

Come to think of it, it really is insane that my entire country is burning alive and literally no one in the rest of the world cares. Thousands of Indians are dying every day from the heat, it's 45+ degrees in multiple areas, the government couldn't give two fucks, we're getting severe warnings and red alerts, and not a soul outside of South Asia is speaking about it because why would you ever care about brown people
