every year around late may, without fail, this post starts getting notes again . and my little wet raw chicken breast of a brain gets puzzled. because i forget that summer is , in fact. a yearly event

i think people are obsessed with talking about end of civilization scenarios especially when talking about climate change because they want to be absolved of blame. they want easy absolution

because like. climate change won't end this version of society! people will still be here!!!! there is no magic rock coming to kill everyone, there will be no 100% deadly disease that gets even the rich people. this isn't a storybook. the world will just be duller and worse than it was before, and more people will be in pain than before, and we'll shrug and accept the new normal. because that's what we always do (covid is a good example of that and i'm one of the few people who wasn't shocked at the reaction. how well do you know the spanish flu?)

i'm not a fan of end of the world scenarios where everyone dies horribly in general honestly, because people are resilient & society is just a cycle of collapse and rebuilding on and on and on. and nobody thinks about the future in this aspect but it's a timeline of the universe situation. we're in the baby stages of civilization if anything and it's incredibly self centered to imagine it'll all magically perfectly end in twenty years or so so we won't have to address our problems
