Getting the work started on Icelandic Seasons
In the introduction blog article about the Icelandic Seasons project I described how I got my travel web site and how I got to know Martin Schulz the guy who takes the photos that make up the book. But this photo book is going to be a high quality limited edition photo book. So I felt that we needed a great designer who understands print and could ensure that the book was of the high quality the pictures and our supporters deserve. I am so fortunate that I work with exactly that kind of person. Her name is Adalheidur Ormarsdottir and she is a veteran designer who has a lot of experience of working on print. After I showed Martin´s pictures she was quick to accept the challenge on working on this project with us. What a great asset she is.
One challenge that we face is that this is a cross-border project. Martin lives in Munich Germany but he and his wife Alice actually came to Iceland this weekend to work on the book. That was Martin´s 15th tour to Iceland and as I write this he is somewhere hunting for northern lights and getting new photos for the book.
This weekend all we met at the nice cafe Stofan at the center of Reykjavik and worked hard on the book. We had four objectives for this work session. Introducing Martin and Adalheidur, deciding on the layout for the book, defining its structure and selecting photos. The first three objectives were met with ease but selecting some 40 - 50 pictures from Martin´s stash of over 200 outstanding pictures turned out to be difficult. After three hours of work we have narrowed our choices so we can proceed with design and writing texts. It´s all off to a great start. Check out the project here at Karolina Fund.
