PS3’s PlayStation Home Has Never Felt More Alive in 2023

I found this subreddit that’s just videos of MMOs in their final moments before they got permanently shut down. This is Playstation Home, where a group of people gathered around a bonfire to pop and lock while saying “goodbye” over and over again. One of them is riding a shark on land. There’s no music, just the sound of the waves and a bunch of seagulls.

These are the last screenshots of Playstation Home that I took. It was a shame to hear when it was shut down earlier this year. Playstation Home wasn’t the best virtual world experience, but it still had enough to be an interesting one. I liked collecting the various gaming themed freebie items and displaying them in my house. I enjoyed the small mini-games that were based on other video games. It was a small, contrived virtual world with issues, but I still had fun with it. I hope Sony tries to make another virtual world but implement it better, in a way that feels connected to your console experience instead of a separate thing.

So long Playstation Home.
