âFair enough. I guess thatâs just something weâll have to work on changing for next year. Everyone deserves a bit of a fuss on their birthday, I think. Itâs good to celebrate yourself every once in awhile,â Danica shrugged, smile flickering at her lips at the mention of next yearâs birthday. It was a bit weird, the thought that she could still be in Jordanâs life that far off, but it was certainly a possibility if things continued as they were. âGod, I feel like every year I keep pushing back my definition of old age by a few years just to make myself feel better,â Danica agreed with a laugh. Sure, they werenât actually all that old, but it felt like it some days. Inclining her head slightly, Danica knew that yes, technically Broadway was a big deal, but it had become so commonplace to her that it was a fact that was at times lost on her. âItâsâŚan enjoyable experience at least. I always had fun.â She didnât want to make it into some big, snobby thing from her days of luxury. Biting her lip as Jordan leaned forward, Danica let another smile pull at her lips as she brought a hand up to cup Jordanâs chin. âYouâre cute, but itâs fine. Nothing to worry about,â she promised, a sincerity ringing in her voice. It was all safe, just an annoyance, at worst. Her hand dropped back down as Jordan stood back up, the smile still lingering. âGreat. Wherever you want to go, itâs my treat, of course. Late birthday gift. Yeah, though? Grace is absolutely something else, to say the least. Her and River both. OrâŚwell, all three of them really.â Her mind flashed back to the last encounter sheâd had with Sage andâŚwhoever the woman was that had been in her apartment. It was really all three of her cousins that were a disaster in one way or other.
âI guess thatâs true,â Jordan agreed, feeling her lips twitch at the thought of Danica still sticking around a year from now. âMaybe next year I wonât just work through the day. Iâll hold you to reminding me.â It was really a poor excuse to convince Danica to talk to her, but Jordan figured she was a mess already. There really was no making a bigger fool of herself. Danica didnât seem to mind, at any rate. âHonestly? Me too,â Jordan agreed with a laugh, smile crinkling the corners of her eyes. âI just keep telling myself that I donât feel old yet, and thatâs all that matters.â Shrugging her shoulders, Jordan tucked her hands in her pockets. âNah, for sure. I hear itâs enjoyable but...I donât know. Musicals werenât always my thing.â Even in high school, Jordan had avoided the theater kids. Not out of any malice, they just hadnât shared similar interest. Hell, she was half expected to avoid them, popular as sheâd been. An audible swallow bobbed her throat when Danica touched her. She hadnât been expecting it, and Jordan went very still. She knew better than to expect to be struck, but the thundering of her heart was loud in her ears nonetheless. âOkay.â It was about all she could say, shocked and delighted as she was. With a grin, Jordan shot a glance to the man before rocking up onto her toes. âHow about now? Unless youâre busy.â Shaking her head, Jordan grinned. âI mean...Sage has her act together. Sheâs an odd one, but she at least sheâs...you know. Functional? Grace seemed functional too though. Just more standoffish. I donât think Iâve met your other cousin yet?â She couldnât remember it anyway.Â
