After finishing the Liu Cixin trilogy, I guess the universe is beautiful after all 🤔

I'm still thinking about it

I think he's right that humans are particularly warm and romantic and in love with our planet. It might not seem that way to you right now. I know most of us are still in that phase where we feel rage and despair towards humanity. And we might feel like humanity needs external help in order to reform ourselves. That's how the trilogy starts out.

But if you read the whole series you'll see how humanity really is. We're warm, gentle, curious, intelligent beings with an extreme attachment to our planet. We have a touch of arrogance about humanity's abilities. And when all our needs are met, we form egalitarian societies and seek out female leaders. That's basically it. That's humanity. For better or worse, that's who we are. Our nature determines our fate.

And... (spoilers ahead)

Even when humans leave the solar system and become galactic humans, we don't change too much. It's a dreary life. And we only do it if we have no other choice. 25% of galactic humans end up quitting space and settling on a planet and finding joy again.

Humans could be the dark masters of space. We do strike fear in the hearts of most other species in space. We do have this potential. But If we realized our full potential as a galactic superpower, what would happen at the end of the universe? We'd sit there at the end of the universe with billions of micro-universes. We'd siphon all the mass away from the main universe. And we'd kill the big crunch and doom the main universe to nothingness. There'd be no reset. Just billions of humans in our little cubic farming micro-universes. We'd win. All other life would lose. The grand universe would lose.

So we can't choose that side of our nature. And these choices are probably programmed into us. At higher dimensions, time is in multiple dimensions and the consequences of all choices can be seen. In those higher dimensional eras, our higher dimensional ancestors could see our possible futures. And they could line things up to make sure we avoid following our darker nature.
