@fatliberation, who I often reblog here, has been censored by staff. This blog has been a respite from fatphobic culture, and we are all worse for having lost it. Please support their other blog, @thaenad, if you’re interested in continuing to support this creator.

I haven’t spoken about this directly, but I believe the institutionalized anti-feedist sentiment on tumblr is puritanical and inherently fatphobic. This policy has been used to justify silencing and harassing fat people, both who are and aren’t feedists.

I understand that there are range of opinions and histories with the feedist community, and I respect not wanting to engage with the kink. Everyone has the right to curate their own sexual experience. There are shitty people in every community, and I’m not here to dismiss people’s pain associated with mistreatment by feedists.

However, most feedists are fat people. Or they’re the partners and friends and allies of fat people. Tumblr especially tends to attract feedists who engage in the kink with less shame, and less reason to mistreat other fat people. Demonization of them on the basis of a sexual preference people find distasteful is bullshit. Limits on self expression and alternative perspectives harm all of us.

And to people who say feedists fundamentally objectify fat bodies, the majority of people in my likes and reblogs are feedists. They’re fighting the good fight. They’re expanding the Overton window on fat liberation. I think it’s bad politics to reject allies because they give you the ick.

If you’re in a position to engage with fat liberation from the perspective of a feedist, I recommend following @thaenad on their blog and other places. They’ve been committed to providing an alternative view point against fatphobia for years. I’m personally very grateful for what they put out into the world.

it is so important that you are a little bit ugly. please get comfortable with having unplucked eyebrows and nonexistent jawlines and wrinkles. let your blue hair grow out into an uneven pale green and your clothes be old and mend them and modify them until they’re unique to you. wear lipstick which doesnt compliment your skintone and mismatched outfits which went out of fashion 5 years ago. be a little bit too loud and a little bit too passionate and as weird as you can be because oh my god there is nothing more disturbing to me than perfection. beauty is manufactured and sold to us and you need to realise that you are a fucking animal to live a joyful life I am so serious. you cant obsess over aesthetics forever please just live messily and make your body your home however you please.

I genuinely don't understand what's wrong with dieting. Having a normal BMI is healthy. Of course you can be a little bit overweight for many reasons and that's also okay, but 300+ lbs is just too much. (yeah, bmi can be a little bit inaccurate due to muscle mass, but if a person doesn't work out, no way their excess weight is something other than fat)

It's unhealthy and if something is unhealthy it's also can't be beautiful. It's just how attractivness works lol.

I don't support any kind of eating disorders, but as a part of society you should be productive to it and not a burden to health-care.

I'm not trying to offend anyone and if I did I'm sorry. Its just a really interesting topic for me and I want to discuss it

We always have to bear in mind when reading media and the scientific literature on body shape and health (e.g. abdominal fat and insulin resistance) that science is ideologically embedded, and in the global north that means embedded in imperialist white supremacist capitalist patriarchy. Anti-fat biases are racialized, gendered, and classed. While it’s true that there are some risks associated with certain bodies—not only people who are larger in the abdomen (which is natural for many populations from the global south) but also shorter life span in tall people, skin cancer in redheads, osteoporosis in thin people, and so on—the risks and bodies that become stigmatized, that are used to fearmonger and to manipulate people’s behavior, are the bodies of the oppressed. We don’t want to dismiss research data out of hand but we do want to remember that prevailing biases shape Science and serve ruling class interests, and we perpetuate harm by collaborating in that

She's fat and an actress and she gets good roles.

She's fat and the main character and no one mentions her weight once.

I'm fat and my weight doesn't play a part in my day to day conversations, or plans, or friendships. Why can't I have that on tv?

I've seen a fair amount of fat liberation activists explain that they have always been fat, they're not about to stop, and that's natural and beautiful and fine. That's an incredibly important message.

What I've seen less - and what I want to remind people of - is this: if you've become fat, that's also natural and beautiful and fine.

When you're a fat person who has been thin in the past, that comes with its own brand of shaming. People take your history of thinness as proof that you don't have to be fat. You often fear the look of disappointed surprise in the eyes of someone you haven't met since you were thin. People try to determine "what happened". They don't see your fat body as just you, but as a sort of symptom that isn't part of you.

Becoming fat is not a tragedy, it's not a sign of failure, it's not a bad or shameful thing. The thin you is not the Real you. You are always real and always worthy of freedom, respect and peace. You are allowed to be fat no matter how or when you became fat.

“Fat people are promoting obesity” why do we never talk about skinny people promoting eating disorders then?

People constantly tell fat folks that they're “promoting obesity.” Whether they're discussing body positivy and/or fat liberation, whether they're filming a grwm, or whether they're (God forbid) posting about food, fat people are constantly met with those kinds of remarks, to the extent that it has lost any original meaning it might've had. It has simply become a cudgel with which to beat fat people out of public life.

Meanwhile, there are upteen billion wellness influencers, fitness coaches, and celebrities pushing the latest fad diets, calorie restriction, and whichever supplements pay them them most, as well as the latest miracle weight loss surgeries, pills and injections. Extreme weight loss is being glorified and disordered eating is being splattered across social media rn, yet the people who are so concerned with fat people and obesity are curiously silent on this. This, in spite of the fact that eating disorders, extreme weight loss and malnutrition also have severe health repercussions, if you survive them at all.

Fat people are told they're “promoting obesity” just for existing, while extreme weight loss is being simultaneously normalised. The double standard is deafening

its kinda insane that hyperstylization of skinniness is seen as artistically neutral but hyperstylization of fatness immediately denotes it as "fetish material". this isnt even to say it can't be fetish-based, but that it isnt allowed to be neutral unlike skinniness where super exaggeration is just an artistic choice, a style, not a representative of reality and presumed to just be another way to depict skinniness in a recognizable way for the artist's style. but if you place emphasis on a fat character's body features in a specific way, it can only be a fetishistic caricature? not a way to explore the shapes of a body or to experiment with perspective or whatever else you might say about a skinny character?

i hate the way fat antagonists have their weight moralized and used as a metaphor for greed and corruption and i hate the way it's overcorrected into fat people being "soft squishy friend-shaped cupcakes who look like they give incredible hugs" and i long for the day we have nuanced, interesting, and complicated fat characters and most of all i long for the day people are normal about fatness

i think it's really cruel and weird that people will constantly judge and make fun of fat peoples' relationship to fast food, but then you actually go to a fast food joint as a fat person and the tables and chairs are all either these weird modern chairs and tables that are bolted down to the ground and the chairs are way too close to the table for fat people to sit comfortably or at all, or else they are more classic chairs and tables that aren't bolted down and can be moved around but they have armrests that sit around your waist like a corset (if you are small enough to fit at all) and have the weight limit of a single dandelion seed. like the fast food restaurants don't want us to be seen eating there despite us being the Stereotype Of Person Who Eats There and it's just. really annoying and sad
