Kyle steals a bite of Hal’s mac n cheese, and Hal licks the cheese off his lip in retaliation.
Kyle swallows and smacks a kiss on him right back. “I can’t help getting greedy for your goodies.”
Chuckling, Hal puts an arm around him to pull him a little closer. He balances his bowl in his lap, happy just to be close. “….so…can I make things awkward?”
Kyle smirks, with a challenging amused look. “Sure, go for it, amor.”
“I’ve probably asked this before, but..do you think your mom would have liked me?”
Kyle stares at him for a moment and blinks. “Ohhhhh kay. Wow, I wasn’t expecting that…” He puts down nearly-finished dinner so he can pull even closer to Hal. “Who’s the scamp now,” he jokes, laughing in a totally awkward way. “You, ah, no. You never asked me that before.”
“I told you, awkward.” Hal sets his dinner aside too. “I guess…given the day, I was curious. I know you talk to her still, which is fine..I talk to my dad a lot still too….” He drifts of, having a moment of realizing just how long his dad’s been gone.
Kyle pets Hal’s hair soothingly, though more to soothe himself, really. “Yeah, I…geez, I never thought you’d ask me this. I always thought…oh geez.” In a fit of nerves, he wraps his arms around Hal’s shoulders and kisses his temple.
“You know how much I love you, right? I hope I show you enough, how much I do, even when I get depressed or agitated or whatever. I still love you, and I need you.”
Hal reclines back a bit and pulls Kyle into him, smoothing his hands over his sides. “Of course I know that.” He chuckles. “Is all that to say you don’t think she would have approved?”
