Everyone is free to engage in fanfic however they wish bc I’m not the police! But there is such a sense of pride that comes with reading and following a WIP from the first posted chapter. What a joy and a pleasure to watch the story unfold and the writer’s style evolve in real time. And if you’re not commenting regularly, you’re missing out — I’ve met some of my best friends in fandom from commenting on each other’s stories, to the extent that we are now IRL friends. I’ve even made friends with other commenters in someone else’s comment section. It’s so easy to feel isolated in fandom, but it costs nothing to engage with a work that inspires you. Genuine connections with interesting and likeminded people within fandom are more accessible than you think.
Lily and James

Summary: When the Fat Lady first received her assignment as the guardian of Gryffindor Tower, she was given three rules: 1. Do not let anyone in without a password at all costs 2. Change the password often 3. Do not meddle in students’ lives beyond their physical safety
As any true Gryffindor, she prides herself on a job well done, but in September of 1971, she started to witness a love story unfold that made it near impossible to not meddle.
I’m not sure if I fever-dreamed this, but do you have a new WIP? Can you tell us anything about it?
Hope you feel better soon 🖤
Not a fever dream, friend. :) Unfortunately, I have become afflicted with the "starting too many WIPs" curse and now have yet another spawn I'm responsible for and tinker with sometimes. Started out as a silly thing and then became kind of non-silly. Sort of. The premise is Jilypad from Sirius' POV. 👿
(S/o my beta-reader @feed-the-birdss who gave really useful feedback that's helped me write the next few chapters!)
Could I interest you in a snippet, by chance? 👀
Daily reminder to leave comments on fics to make someone's day after so much hard work 🥰
Kudos are great, Reblogs are great but it can feel so quiet without the comments. Even just a few words of encouragement, appreciation and deserved gratitude can go a long way!

In Love and War (WIP) by Icepen. Rated M.
After a horrible summer before her Seventh Year brings the war to her doorstep, Lily Evans knows one thing for certain-- she will not be safe at Hogwarts anymore. Her position as Head Girl, her new friendship with the Potter heir and the disgraced Black heir, the sudden and tragic murder of her parents all shoves her into a limelight she never wanted. Learning to cope with her grief and her trauma, Lily needs to navigate the treacherous waters of her new situation as the war against people like her escalates in the world she is about to graduate into.
flying lesson (completed, 3.7k) by @allrightevanss1123. Rated G.
lily evans, 11, muggle-born, anxietic as fuck and there's a human megaphone yelling instructions beside her. or james potter, 11, sees the muggle-born girl looking confused during their first flying lesson and decides he needs to help her. because thats what gryffindors do.
stuck here, with you!! (WIP) by @allrightevanss1123. Rated M.
Lily, as the respectable Gryffindor Prefect, had to mentor James Potter in the Hospital Wing for a week because Remus’ ‘sick week’ and Potter’s quidditch accident overlapped together. or James cracked tf outta his skull and heard LETSSS GOOOO
Whoever You Want (WIP) by @allrightevanss1123. Rated M.
Lily had known him for quite a long time now—James Potter and his weird hair, his desperate jokes, and those horn-rimmed glasses sitting on the bridge of his nose. He couldn’t help but make a fool of himself in front of her every single time. But Lily had never once considered turning him down as "resisting," despite everyone else calling it that, talking about his charm and how cute he acted, how much he fancied her. He was...pretty resistible, really. Until he wasn't, at least.
Stone Cold and Rock Hard (completed, 2.4k) by @neverenoughmarauders. Rated T.
Lily let out a breath she didn’t know she’d been holding. ‘James,’ she laughed. ‘When a boy and a girl agree to grab a drink in Hogsmeade, they’re going on a date.’ — Or: James Potter gets undressed and Lily Evans dives into the Black Lake for no reason whatsoever.
The Night Is Over But I'll Still Dance With You (completed, 2.7k) by @gingerqueen0567. Not rated.
Lily is so excited for the prom! Nothing can ruin the night, right?
What's In A Name Anyway? (completed, 2.5k) by @yallthemwitches. Rated T.
“Wait,” he says slowly, his heart somersaulting like it’s been taken for a ride on a broomstick, “A crush on McLauren or me?" Lily shoots him a pitiful look. “Please don’t make me admit I fancy you after basically seeing you naked,” she says bitterly, wiping at her eyes. “I won’t be able to live with myself.”
Second chances (completed, 3.5k) by @vivianjily. Rated M.
James thought he'd made peace with the slow burn of it—becoming Lily's friend, earning back her trust, hoping that eventually she'd see him as more. Then Benjy Fenwick makes her laugh and James realizes he's been fooling himself.
love struck (completed, 3.1k) by @sapphireleo. Rated G.
A love story told in colors of carnations (that he first thought were roses). Ending is kinda angsty. Red. Purple. Blue & White. Pink. More white.
BLAME (completed, 36.7k) by @blitheringmcgonagall. Not rated.
“I take full responsibility for my actions, Sir, I know that you’re going to have to expel me. There is no excuse for what happened. I’m sorry to have to put my parents through this. And Professor McGonagall, I just really wanted to tell her how sorry I am and …” His voice trailed off. Dumbledore’s cold periwinkle eyes regarded him intently, as though engaging in some complicated mental Arithmancy. “If Severus Snape corroborates what you just told me, I’m afraid that is correct, you will be expelled, Mr Potter.” A Marauders What If...? What if James had been blamed for the Prank? What if he got expelled at the end of Fifth Year? What if there was never a Lily Evans and James Potter, Head Boy and Head Girl? If they parted enemies, if they never got together in their final year in Hogwarts? What if the marauders lost James? What then?
Sweet Thing (completed, 5.7k) by @stonecoldhedwig. Rated E.
“Ask me,” he says softly. The room is so quiet, James thinks he can hear the sound of her heartbeat alongside his own. “Tie me up.” **** Or: Lily and James explore that little kink they discovered on Christmas Day.
Operation Love Languages (completed, 5.3k) by @exalthia. Rated T.
“The Five Love Languages: How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to Your Mate? Moony, what in the name of Merlin’s crusty toenails is this?” asked Sirius, derisively squinting at the cover. “‘Mate,’ is that some werewolf shit?” “I told you, it’s a Muggle book. I think it could help James. Listen, this bloke says there’s five ‘love languages,’ and they’re different ways of showing your love for someone depending on what’s important to them: physical touch, words of affirmation, quality time, gift giving, and acts of service. Our boy has been doing none of these, and look where it’s gotten him. He’s got to woo her.” Love languages, James thought, sounded about as woolly as divination, but if they somehow helped him win Lily over, he’d do anything. He’d even probably attempt to fight the giant squid. Not bare-handed, though, he valued his life, lovelorn as it was. OR—Lily has been unimpressed with James' efforts to win her over, so he tries a new tactic. A Muggle one.
Hard Work (completed, 4.5k) by @feed-the-birdss. Rated T.
Lily Evans is drowning in the effort to belong. James Potter has never had to put effort into anything. Somewhere between broken quills, failed patronus charms, and head duties, they figure out what effort is actually worth.
four a.m. knows all my secrets (completed, 2.6k) by @jilyflowers. Rated E.
They fit together so perfectly, two pieces of a puzzle, a comfortable reminder of what she’s got, rather than what she’s lost. It's a quarter past four in the morning after a rough Order mission, and James and Lily can't sleep.
Ultraviolet (completed, 2k) by @deadlysansa. Rated G.
Emails between Lily and James & co about a missing notebook.
I’ll be Home for Christmas (completed, 4k) by @vagueshadows-fics. Rated E.
I’ll be home for Christmas. The words echo warmly in his mind, a stark contrast to the brutal cold of his present reality. He’d said those words with cavalier confidence mere days ago, his hands on Lily’s waist as he kissed her goodbye on the doorstep of the small cottage they’d moved into only a few weeks ago. He can almost picture her now, cocooned in the safety of their new home — her cheeks flushed from the heat of the kitchen, humming muggle Christmas tunes as she stirs a pot of hot chocolate. The image feels like a beacon of hope in the suffocating cold of this mission. James intends to keep his promise. Or: When a routine reconnaissance mission goes sideways, James is determined to find a way home in time for Christmas
need you like a heartbeat (completed, c500 words) by @oakheartedmuse. Rated G.
"He needed her like a heartbeat and there she was, amusing herself with his suffering." Or, James is sure he's losing his mind, but it's mostly because of the heat and this certain redhead...

it took binge-reading a fat stack of sports romances and jumping on the off campus train (I’m on ep 6!), but I can feel the creativity returning!!! was starting to slip into burnout there for a minute but I think we’ve righted the ship!
Truly one of the best things I’ve learned from writing the past few years is how to understand my own brain. Mindset, creativity, health, patience, sprints, rest — it’s all mixed together and it’ll never be perfectly balanced, and accepting that and learning to find my own feeling of “balance” within the cadence of my life has been very quietly life-changing for my own sense of creative fulfillment. Sometimes I’m firing on all cylinders and churning out big brain ideas and thousands of words. Sometimes I’m stretched too thin and have to go on low power mode for a bit. The key is to make the most of wherever I am in that moment. If I’m firing on all cylinders, I capture it. If I’m on low power mode, I’ve learned to luxuriate in it. Curl up early in the fuzzy blankets. Read physical pages. Watch shows that don’t require much brain power. Consume stories that make me laugh. Daydream about new characters and new worlds without any sense of pressure. Let ideas appear on their own. It’s like a hair mask for my brain, one day at a time.
chapter ten: the promotion
Petunia has always held fast to the belief that soft mattresses lead to bad posture, and that bad posture is the gateway to moral decay. She’d preached this particular philosophy over countless Sunday dinners, her fork perfectly poised as she articulated how a sagging spine inevitably leads to a sagging ethical framework, all while casting pointed looks at Lily, who has always preferred to be as cozy as possible. It is one of Petunia’s many rigid guiding principles, right up there with the proper way to fold towels and the absolute necessity of polishing silver every fortnight, regardless of use.
So when Lily wakes up on the firmest mattress the Midlands has to offer, it doesn’t take long for her to remember that she hadn’t fallen asleep in her own bedroom last night, but Petunia’s.
With James.

chapter nine
Sirius loves the Potters’ house more than anywhere else in the world; more than Hogwarts, even, and he never thought it would be possible to love a place more than he loves the castle. Peverell Manor is warm all the time; not just warm in a temperature sense, warm in a loving sense, warm like he’s welcome there, like he belongs. Nobody flinches at the sight of him and Euphemia likes to pause and run her hands through his hair or press a kiss to his forehead. It’s always absentminded, she’s been like this toward him since he was little, welcomed him into her home like he’s been there the whole time.
hello, sparks from ao3 here! in a thinly veiled attempt to get music recs, I was wondering what album/artist you associate with each marauder + anyone marauder-adjacent? Personally Lily will always be connected to Rubber Soul as I first listened to the album after reading a fic where it was her favorite. I've always associated both Remus and Siruis with Bowie, specifically Moonage Daydream and Lady Stardust respectively. One of my favorite head cannons is that Lily and the girls all suspect Stevie Nicks is a witch.
So lovely to see you around these parts!
This is quite literally my favorite topic of conversation, so thank you so much for the ask. I really love that headcanon that Lily's fave is Rubber Soul because that's *my* fave Beatles album - so I'm also listing the Beatles album that I'd associate with everyone.
Lily is Suzi Quatro (self-titled), Janis Joplin (Pearl), The Slits (Cut), Tina Turner, The Stooges, and The Runaways. She feels deeply connected to the punk movement in part because of the social justice element and in part because of her teen girl rage - bands like The Damned and The Clash (particularly post-White Riot) would have spoken to her. She would've really liked The Ramones until she realized that they were talking the talk without walking the walk, and then she would've pretended like she'd never cared for them. She's got hometown pride for Black Sabbath, but she likes Led Zeppelin more. She pretends she's into Patti Smith, but really she doesn't get Horses at all. She really likes being the Music Person and prides herself on having fairly niche taste, but she also thinks The Doors (LA Woman) and The Grateful Dead are niche just by virtue of being American. Her taste broadens as she gets older, so by the time she's around 17 she'd also go for Blue by Joni Mitchell and specifically the B-side of Abbey Road. If I had to give her a full Beatles album, though, she'd have Magical Mystery Tour.
James is not particularly fluent in Muggle music, but The Sonics, The Who, and The Yardbirds are all on the JP playlist. Have Love, Will Travel by The Sonics is the ultimate James song to me. He hasn't discovered this about himself yet, but he's really into funk and soul. Think Sly & The Family Stone, Curtis Mayfield, The Spinners, The Staples Singers, etc. If he's a Beatles album, he's either Revolver or Help!.
Mary is the one with her finger on the pulse of pop music. She appreciates everything: She's an early ABBA adopter and is the one who introduces everyone to Fleetwood Mac (Rumors is, obviously, a cultural reset). She listens to Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Al Stewart (Year of the Cat is *her* song), Mavis Staples, Odetta, Donna Summers, The Supremes, Van Morrison, and she's for sure the one who put James onto all the soul music...the thing is, if you give her anything to listen to, she'll give it a fair shake and she'll probably like it. Her Beatles album is Abbey Road.
Sirius is pretty aligned with Lily in terms of liking punk music - the louder the better, kind of a Sex Pistols or Buzzcocks vibe. I see him as more of a Rolling Stones/Led Zeppelin fan than a Bowie fan, though if he's a Bowie song, he's Rebel Rebel. I feel like he goes through these contrarian phases where he'll drive everyone up the wall with top 40 pop as some kind of ~statement~ about rebellion and sellout culture, and he'd do this whole bit about the Bay City Rollers that nobody really knew what to do with. Big time Pink Floyd guy, though. Big time. He thinks Dark Side of the Moon is better than Wish You Were Here, and Lily believes the opposite, and they argue about it all the time. When The Wall comes out, though, they agree that it's their best. If he's a Beatles album, he's The White Album. Or maybe he's Yellow Submarine, if he's doing his contrarian thing, and relatedly, he insists Maxwell's Silver Hammer is the best Beatles song, which everyone hates.
Remus's music taste is shaped by his mum, obviously. Hope is very hippie, very flower child, very open minded - she married a wizard and has a werewolf son, so I think she's a pretty go-with-the-flow kind of person. She's turned to alternative and natural remedies to try to help Remus manage his lycanthropy. Every summer when he comes home from school she's got him doing something like eating Brazil nuts or avoiding citrus. As part of this, I think she really pushed quiet, relaxed music in the Lupin home in a well-meaning attempt to not "aggravate" Remus's condition, so music like Simon & Garfunkel, The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, The Mamas and the Papas, and Peter, Paul & Mary is really nostalgic for him. (BTW, shoutout to @firefeufuego, who originally thought up Remus being a PPM fan, because it is canon to me now.) Teenage Remus probably goes for a bit of Big Star and a bit of Nick Drake, but I also think he'd be happy listening to pretty much anything, but he doesn't like the pressure of being the one to pick the record, especially because Sirius rags on him every single time, no matter what. If he's a Beatles album, I think he's probably Let It Be.
I was going to suggest everyone lounging in the common room, with James or Lily laying with their head in another's lap, but then I realized you already drew something like that you ABSOLUTE ICON!!! 😍
Study Break
Well, now I felt inspired to draw a companion to the previous one!
Bought new perfume, tried on a new dress, posted a new chapter, drank a fizzy drink, and now May is here, April is done, and the passage of time still feels like—
