"You're in a tailor's looking for a rental suit?" TK repeats. Whatever beef the guy's got with the deceased (and TK catches Carlos' look over the tailor's shoulder, the semi-interested flick of his eyes: such a cop), TK's not a part of it. He is pretty bemused, though, eyebrows up, and asks, "Carlos," but Carlos immediately says: "Please. Go. You're confusing Andrei," because Andrei has been going in circles about the shade of white silk for the lining and TK honestly doesn't even care if they wore trashbags. Like, he'd rather not. But the point is marrying this man.

He returns to the kid, "Probably not what you're looking for in here if you're wanting something to wear and get rid of. We're here for our wedding. But, um, there's a rental place two blocks over if you wanna look? The owner owes me a favour." He'd saved his son's left leg.

He blinks several times, wavering between defensive and deer in headlights. “Uh…am I?” Jasper glances around as if the solution is hidden in the array of fabric. God for a person who’s never been fond of drinking this sure seems like the good time for a shot. Nice as this guy seems, he must look like a complete idiot. His shoulders shift as if wanting to curl inwards but unable to do so.

Eyes widen and flit over to the other man. “Oh. Oh-hey congrats. Here?” Had Texas shifted left while he’d been gone? The thought is vaguely unsettling. Something like jealousy worms down his spine. Jasper ignores it. “You aren’t needed here? Kind of a big deal, weddings.” Not that he’d know but surely they’d want to match or something. “If you haven’t guessed by now, I uh have no idea what I’m doing. Only thing I’ve ever cared about fitting right are my shoes.”

"Damn. I'm sorry." Funerals were rough. TK had missed his own mother's and it was devastating to miss it, but at the same time he'd almost been relieved to have had the sign from the Universe in the form of a near-plane disaster that he was allowed to miss it. That he could love her with his whole heart, and grieve, and still not touch down in a city that wasn't safe for him to be in, to mourn a woman he didn't know what to do without. "Um..." the black suit the kid's chosen is the wrong size, and cut in a way that doesn't suit the length of his torso; super unflattering. TK does not say that. He licks his lips (thinking) and turns back to the racks of clothing, and starts to flick through different pieces, eyeballing the kid's size. "Well, were they the sorta person who'd want someone to wear colour? Or you want to go super formal?"

The snort is rude and immediate. "Don't be." Really, he shouldn't even be going. Waste of time and money for a thing that would likely give him absolutely no amount of closure. Seeing the grave wouldn't do any more than leaving the state or becoming a legal adult had. Jasper had floundered after hitting eighteen, lacking a diploma of any kind with no driver's license. Military had seemed better than starving, had a structure to it that he'd come to crave after living under two iron fists. Unfortunate that only one of them was dead. One brow raises at the question and he has no idea at the answer. "Neither? I'd wear jeans if I thought they'd let me in the church with them. I'll probably only wear the thing once - are rental suits a thing?"

It's a little funny. This Jasper is somewhat used to. Fresh vampires blurring around, breaking things, doing what they would normally as a human only to find it didn't work quite as well. Bella's shattered phone on the floor is proof of that. He's somewhat grateful he'd never had to learn to regulate strength with such small fiddly objects. Wood boards and fabric tore just as easily but he knows how attached people can get to technology. He crouches to swipe the thankfully still in tact sim card.

Her turning finally is a weight off his shoulders. Something new entirely now to set him on edge but at least the pull to murder her is gone. He can let Edward deal with her newborn stage. Jasper's had enough 'reminiscing' over the past since she'd tripped over Edward to last several lifetimes. There are still dents in his motorcycle where he'd pushed it beyond capabilities after they'd lost Victoria to California. "Ah well. You can get a new one." He holds out the chip carefully between two fingers. "If it makes you feel any better, I heard Emmett brought down an entire wall once."

Carlisle trusts Jasper has no negative or dangerous intentions, but he also knows he does not have full control over himself just yet. Acquiring control as a vampire takes effort and time, and he knows Jasper is putting in effort. Now they just have to work together, to not rush. Of course Carlisle would never brag about Jasper being lucky, nothing like that. But Carlisle himself is grateful he was able to find Jasper so early on in his vampirism. It's true he has not known the boy for long, but he already cares for him deeply. Already considers him family, his son. It is strange how paternal he has become since becoming a vampire-- it's something he never really felt during his human years, especially not with how cruel and harsh his own father was. Maybe it just taught him what not to do with his own family.

"You have exceptional skills with animals, Jasper. Usually they don't like us. They know what we are, unlike humans." His golden eyes glance around, briefly meeting the gaze of a working woman, with her massive dress and her fan. She is relentless with fanning herself, and the smell of her strong perfume and the touch of many men and her pulse swarms his nose, but it doesn't make any sort of impact on him. She smiles, looks between him and Jasper, and eagerly attempts to wave them over. Politely, Carlisle shakes his head, continuing his way out of the town with Jasper.

"Yes, there are plenty of longhorns. I also saw several posters about a reward being offered on a cougar. Do you want to try that? Maybe we can find something that won't give you the same reaction you've been having to the other animals." He knows consuming animal blood hasn't been easy for Jasper. Carlisle doesn't plan to give up on him. Surely, they'll find something that'll be easier on the younger vampire.

The elder goes against absolutely everything he knows about vampirism, people, humanity as a whole. He still doesn't know why he'd gone along with him. There might have been no reason to kill Carlisle on sight but there had been equally no reason to pick up company. They were hardly a friendly species. Hierarchy differences didn't make for easy allies and these days he has no need of such things.

How Carlisle survived this long is a mystery. The man is so gentle and easygoing he might as well be human. But he's kinder than humans. Yet so are horses and most animals. Jasper looks longingly back at the mare and his throat tightens with a different thirst. A childish longing for what once was despite knowing how flawed it was. He rarely misses being human. It's useless to given there's no way to go back. If they were something else, his eyes might sting and burn.

He doesn't have a response to the compliment. Voice abandons him as he focuses fiercely on putting one foot in front of the other. Not turning around for one reason or another. The woman both disgusts and tempts him. She's desperate, lonely and likely wondering if she can't change their minds. Something cold akin to lightheadedness spills down the back of his neck. Jasper grinds his teeth, shifting attention to Carlisle's calm until it pushes everything else away.

"Don't see why we need the reward." Clearly his enthusiasm is in the ground. He can't be optimistic for fear of being so horribly disappointed should the feline still make him ill. It would be so much easier to just pluck one of the drunks from an alley in the middle of the night. "How come you ain't got a problem with it?"

Jasper's military mind voiced dissent, the younger vampire's frustration evident in the rumbling timbre of his voice and the tense set of his shoulders. Of course, ... killing Bella would be on the list of easy options, but Edward decided he could not live without her, which left Carlisle no other choice but to raise hands in defeat.

The garage doors automatically lowered the gate, and he joined the former major's vicinity by the darkening woods, while concurrently pondering his words. They happened to discuss well in nature, where no one disturbed them. With a reluctant nod, he finally spoke, '' We can give it a shot; find the nest and eliminate them one by one, but what worries me more is their growth in number. Considering the risks, we know not the true size of the force that moves against us, nor what dark gifts they may possess. After what happened with Victoria —-, " he did not finish that, although Jasper likely knew what he wanted to say by brisk inhale and momentarily tight shut of snowy-lids, " —- we can't put our best chances to rely on Emmett's strength, it wouldn't be fair, and I don't want to lose any of you ... not even Bella. ''

" They won't dictate the terms of engagement, not when there can be a more favorable path that lies before us. We know this place, the city, the forest, and so do wolves. I believe we can find common ground, '' his head inclined ever so measured in its carefulness as now he prompted more intently, '' speaking purely hypothetically, would Quileutes ever agree to form an alliance ... would you agree to little training? ''

A not insignificant part of him blames Edward for the whole mess. Surely the telepath knows it given for once, Jasper hadn't made much of an effort to hide his thoughts. The youngest should feel some guilt for their situation. For putting them in such a position where diplomacy was not an option.

Jasper rose smoothly from his crouch, crossing arms over chest and glaring into the woods. Forced himself to breath in the pine slowly. Sometimes it still struck him just how green the world could be. It was too easy to imagine smoke rising from the trees, picture how the grass would look soaked in red. The earth was a strangely thirsty thing. "I would be cautiously optimistic about numbers." Cautiously, of course. "Unless one of em is gifted, Victoria can't keep more than twenty before they'll start turnin' on each other. My max was forty if everyone was well fed and spread out." He was still furious that she'd gotten the idea in the first place.

"You won't lose anyone." His voice was calm, assured despite the clear tension keeping him stone stiff. He wasn't so civilian that he couldn't handle half the field alone. Hypothetically he knew exactly what Carlisle was asking. Jasper wanted to say no. Wanted to avoid putting himself back in that position. "Despite our numbers, gifts really aren't that common. One in a few thousand if that. None I ever turned cropped up with anything."
