The younger archangel had a moment of hesitation. He knew that he should leave her. It was expected of him. The other angels wanted Lucifer gone. It was only a moment, though, before he outstretched a hand to her. He couldn’t leave her. Only his duty to the other angels said that he should. He couldn’t manage it leaving his sister there, letting harm come to her.

“—I’ll get you out of here.”

Ben gave a small nod, sighing. “Hell is not a good place for anyone.” He didn’t want demons destroyed, but he didn’t really want them near him, either. He knelt down outside the cage when she sank. “Father could have loved both us and the humans, couldn’t he?”

A sigh left the younger archangel. “He chose not to love any of us, instead, it seems…” It was no secret that God had been missing for a very long time. “—I think he stopped caring about us.”

Lucy let out a sad sigh, shaking her head. “You are so forgiving little brother, so willing to see the best in him. As soon as he made the humans, he’d made his choice. We weren’t good enough any more, he couldn’t love us any more. He made them to replace us, those weak, flawed beings were his new children and he was more than happy to leave us for them.

A tear crept down Lucy’s cheek and she wiped it away hurriedly. “Do you remember when he did? When we were his only children and he used to talk with us and he spend time with us all? When he still cared, before he was bored. I hate that I miss it, after all of this I shouldn’t. I should’ve learnt, little brother. I don’t think he ever did care about me if he left me in here to rot.”

Unexpected ll Lucy & Liam

“If I go ta’ Hell, then I prob’ly did somethin’ ta’ deserve it. It’d only be right if my soul went there in tha’ case.” His eyebrow raised at her words, at what the offer, job, deal, whatever it was, would entail. “If you’re meanin’ a demon, I’ll pass on tha’. I don’ think I’m too immoral. Depends on how. I sin, we all sin. I’m sure even you’ve sinned, your highness.”

Despite his situation, a laugh left Liam. “A demon’s already tried tha’. She found she couldn’t. I think I broke her, instead. Made her care.” Demons couldn’t hurt him, his mind was strong and his body… his body was numb. “How I tick? Can’t say I follow.”

Lucy couldn’t help the short bark of laughter at his statement. “I don’t tend to think it’s sinning if it’s necessary. Is it a sin to kill the insects that destroy one’s land? Most certainly not. And as for those I’ve created, well, what they do is neither my fault or my concern.”

The bark of laughter made Lucy’s eyes twinkle maliciously. “A demon tried to break you and you broke her instead? How incredibly interesting. How did you manage a thing like that? I want to see how you tick, how you work, how you think, what makes you specifically like this. It’s rare for humans to survive encounters with me, but I think just this once I shall make an exception. An interesting creature like you will be rather fun to watch, after all.”

At the mention of snacks, he chuckled lightly, pressing a kiss on her forehead. “does this mean I’m not suppose to go anywhere? I stay right next to you at all times?” he questioned, looking down at her. “I don’t mind. I just need someone to watch the shop for me while I’m gone. Perks of being the owner.”

“I am happy as long as you and I are together. You make me happy, Lucy. I hope you realize that by now.” he smiled, kissing her softly. “So how does this all work?”

Lucy let out a small, contented sigh as he kissed her forehead, before pausing slightly in thought. “It’s probably best if you stay close by. When I’ve seen other angels nesting in the past, they mainly stayed where they were but we don’t have the same needs as humans. As time goes on I’ll get more tense and probably start trailing you if you leave the room, but that’ll subside eventually.”

Tugging him closer, she curled into him, wrapping her arms around him. “There’s generally lots of contact, clothes not required”, she said as she tossed him a wink. “Most angels groom each others’ wings while nesting as well. I can’t do that for you but you could do mine, if you wanted.” At that she looked up rather shyly. Her wings were always a sensitive topic after her fall. They’d lost too much of their beauty and she was, if she was being honest, ashamed of them.

Aiden had to fight the urge to chuckle at her blush. He was used to him being the blushing one especially when he was still a she. That was fun explaining to his parents.

Once he let her lead, he hoped that whatever she did, he’d like. Though he doubt he would dislike it. Lucy was very in tune with his needs and wants. If he was going to be in there with her, she would make sure it was comfortable for him too. Once they were in the room, he studied her nest. He was amazed by how much detail and work she put in it. It reminded him of the fort they made once. He could get use to living like this.

“I love it. It’s perfect.” he said, smiling down at her. “Is everything in our house in here?”

Lucy couldn’t help the small breath of relief that left her, smiling up at him. “Not absolutely everything, but everything important. There’s some photos, and some warm clothes and the blankets and there’s some snacks for if you need them and if I forgot something I should be able to get it. Perks of being an archangel and all.”

Tugging him gently into the nest, she pulled him down onto the soft bedding and curled into him. “I’m glad you like it, I thought you would but I wasn’t sure and I want you to be happy.”

Ben hesitated a moment as she shook her head, not understanding until he heard the words that followed. He stepped closer, now, setting his hands on the Cage, watching her with sympathy. It was strange, how Heaven, how Michael, made her out to be such a monster. This behavior seemed the opposite of monstrous to him.

Lucifer was protecting him. Keeping him from sharing her fate. That was not monstrous, that was good.

“Hell is not… a place I am very suited to.” In fact, just being in it, now, made his feathers bristle and unnerved him quite a bit. The demons frightened him, he supposed, though he knew better than to let them know that they did. “I will try. No one deserves this fate. Michael was wrong to do this to you.”

She let out a sob of relief at that. Her little brother still loved her, he didn’t think she was a monster. He’d try and visit her, even though Hell was never meant to be a place for him. Her brother was kindness in a place of cruelty, and she would ever be thankful for that.

She pressed her own hands against the cage, meeting his eyes. “Thank you little brother, thank you. Hell is not a place for you, I know that, but thank you for coming. I only wanted to protect you all.” She sank down against the bars of the cage at that, letting out another sob.

“I only wanted Father to love us all”, she murmured more quietly, hanging her head.

aiden’s face lit up the moment he saw her. His worry was eased away by her smile. Though he wondered what exactly she had been up to. He could only guess from the way she was holding one of his sweaters.

“I promise to be honest with you. I never lie, you know that.” he said, lightly pecking her forehead. “Does this have something to do with you taking everything and hoarding it in our room?” He was really curious and he can only make assumptions to what she made. He was never dishonest with her about things. Even when it came to how she controlled Hell, he always gave her his honest opinion. “Should I lead the way or would you like the pleasure of doing so?”

Lucy blushed at the mention of her recent hoarding habits before mentally scolding herself. She was Lucifer, the literal Devil, she didn’t blush like a school girl!

Apparently she did when she was nesting though. She nodded, extending a hand and gently taking his own. “I can lead”, she said before gently pulling him to the doorway. She couldn’t help the slight nervousness as she grew closer. What if he hated it? What if he hated that she’d taken most of their stuff to do it? Maybe this was a bad idea, really, humans didn’t do these things. But it certainly felt right to her, so it had to be okay, didn’t it?

Shaking the thoughts aside, she guided him into their bedroom, indicating the nest that she’d made. She looked up at him expectantly, trying to hide her slight concern. “Do you like it?”

Aiden had to admit to himself that this was his first experience having a child with an archangel. Granted, it was his first child period. But nothing can really prepare him for the angel aspect of things.

He was alright with letting her know where he was every part of the day. He was even alright with her having her demons guard him on ocassion. though he wasn’t sure if he’d get used to all the missing items.

He often just watched his wife gather things and claim a spot in their room. This was definitely something he’d need to remember if they decide to have another child. He often found himself scratching his head at her actions. Did every angel do this?

He often found it somewhere amusing how quickly she claimed discarded clothes if they were still somewhere clean. He debated on just getting more blankets, but decided to let her do what she needed. He was somewhat prepared for this.

The moment he got home from work, he carefully rid himself of his jumpsuit. “Lucy! Where are you?” he called, noticing her absent in the rest of the house. “Sweetheart? Everything alright?”

The minute the door closed, Lucy started making her way out of the comfortable nest she’d made for them. Peering around the doorway to make sure it was him, she smiled widely, making her way towards him.

“I’m fine, my love, but I have something to show you”, she said as she made her way to him, wrapping her arms around him. “You have to promise to let me know what you think of it. And be honest too.” He’d probably like it, she was sure. Her lover was kind and sweet and he wouldn’t mind that it wasn’t as fancy as some of the things she might’ve constructed in heaven. He wouldn’t mock or scorn like some angels would. Or would he? No, of course not, that was just her nesting making her doubt herself. Her emotions were an absolute wreck.

She looked up at him with a soft smile on her lips, glad her partner was home safe at least. She’d have to let him know at some stage that she was putting him on house arrest for the next few weeks at the very least some time soon. After she’d shown him the nest, she decided.

She froze for a moment at what he said. He’d get her out? He wanted to help her? She was almost ready to cheer when she realised what that would make him. What Michael would do to him. Would he end up in the cage with her? Her littlest, most merciful brother, who hadn’t let all of this touch him.

Would Michael call him a monster? Declare him an outlaw, to be hunted and killed? No, she couldn’t. She shook her head as she looked up at him.

“You can’t, little brother, you can’t. They’ll do this to you too. Please, they can’t do this to you. Just, visit me? Please, I don’t want to be alone, I can’t be alone.” She fought against a fresh wave of tears as she looked up at her brother, face pleading.

It had started slowly. Just being really insistent on knowing where Aidan was, what he was doing, whether or not he’d be alone. She was the devil though, people could try to hurt him to hurt her and that she couldn’t bare.

It wasn’t until she found herself gathering blankets and staring at the bed debating whether or not to use the mattress or just get rid of the whole thing that she realised. She was nesting. Oh the inhumanity.

How many times had she watched other angels follow these base urges and scorned? she’d always thought it absolutely ridiculous and yet here she was, doing the exact same thing she had laughed at others for doing. If any of them could see her now, they’d be laughing.

Still, when you need to nest, you need to nest, and it wasn’t long until Lucy had utilised all the blankets in the apartment, any warm jumpers of Arioch’s she could find that carried his scent, anything sentimental in the slightest, and created her nest.

Curling up with one of his jumpers in the corner, Lucy sat and waited for Aidan to come home from work, fighting the urge to go out and get him herself.

Lucy let out a small huff of air, one that could almost be mistaken for boredom. Really it was more exasperation. Of course her youngest brother was against the apocalypse, of course he’d been healing the humans, of course he’d been being so bloody, well, good.

“Really brother, you need to live a little. Why spend your time doing anything so dreadfully dull? Why, you could do any number of things and actually enjoy yourself without having to deal with those disgusting little abominations Father was so fond of. Look at what Gabriel did, now he certainly got into mischief.” Her thoughts lingered briefly on Gabriel, a deep sadness threatening to settle as she thought of her little brother, of what she’d had to do.

Before her expression could betray her, she threw up another smirk as she flicked her eyes over Ben. “You can’t tell me you haven’t had any fun while you’ve been wandering around. You’ve had so much free time, after all. You could’ve cleansed the earth in all that time, or planted a garden or settled down with a nice little angel that would worship the ground you stood on. Why on earth would you waste time on those pathetic little abortions?”
