just some jeyna headcanons for you (pt 1)

After BoO, Jason and Reyna don’t talk for while. They both feel their relationship is changed and they don’t know how to act with each other anymore. Still, they feel like they have to be friends again because their friendship has always been too important to both of them to let it fade away like that;

The moment they start to talk again is Nico’s birthday party (which of course has been organized by Jason who has invited all of Nico’s friends, including Reyna obv): Reyna is telling Nico some old stories about New Rome and Camp Jupiter and how Jason was getting into trouble like all the time. He hears that and suddenly intervenes like “Yeah but Reyna was always supporting me and never really said no” and she cooly replies: “I was doing that just not to hurt you”. They stare at each other in silence just for a moment before they start laughing so hard and remembering old times and quests and inside jokes;

When the party’s over, Jason eventually asks Reyna if he could walk her home just to talk a bit. At first, she doesn’t know what to say, but then she just lets go. They walk in silence for a little bit, untill they start talking at the same time just like they used to do when they were back at CJ. Jason laughs casually while Reyna nervously smiles (as she’s not used to spend time with Jason anymore) before Jason looks at her for a moment, then he whispers something like “I’m sorry, Reyna. I just– can’t believe I could treat you that way. I’m sorry and I don’t know what to think about myself. I shouldn’t have left you alone – you mean too much to me. May you forgive me?” he says in a whisper, his eyes on the ground. Reyna smiles (those smiles that Jason just can’t resist) and states with a teasing tone: “We’ll see” before kissing him on the cheek and entering her home;

That night, Reyna can’t sleep. She keeps wondering if she’s done the right thing with Jason. She thought she’d got over it, that she’d forgotten what she felt for him months ago, but – she can’t explain. All those feelings seem to… have come back one way or another. Does she really want to go back to what they were even though she’ll get hurt because Jason’s still with Piper? “Yes. Yes, I want to” she thinks a moment before she falls asleep;

After few months, Jason moves to New Rome to study together with Piper, Leo, Percy, and Annabeth, so he and his friends often visit Reyna, Hazel, and Frank to have a talk or just drink something together. One of these days Jason goes to Reyna’s villa to ask her if she wants to have a hot chocolate but she tells him that she has to have her paperwork done by tomorrow and that she’s not even halfway there. Jason obliviously offers to help her (because, let’s face it, it’s Jason) and they work together all night long, chatting a bit and talking about their past and future lives;

Of course Jason & Reyna are Nico’s best friends and they spend a lot of time all together having fun. They like teasing Nico and asking him about Will and staring at him as he blushes sooo much;

After Jason and Piper break up, they get even closer as Reyna’s always trying to comfort Jason even though she’s not good at comforting people. Despite this, Jason doesn’t care and really likes spending time with Reyna because it makes him feel better and happier;

Jason likes to surprise her showing up in front of her villa in his car ready to take her to a short trip to San Francisco. What’s their favorite activity? Going to their favorite coffee shop and getting a hot chocolate or an ice-cream (it depends on the season) and then just walking down the streets or on the beach chatting and having fun;

Reyna has a motorcycle and she tries to teach Jason how to ride it, but he’s a mess!! “Besides, I like riding bikes more. You know, it’s healthier” he always tells her as he falls.

just some jeyna headcanons for you (part 2)

Yes guys I’m finally back with part two!! (part 1 here)

Reyna and Jason sharing milkshakes and watching sunset together in the Gardens of Bacchus staying in silence because they both know just a single word could ruin their moment!! 

They often spend nights together watching films about Roman Empire and complaining about how historically inaccurate they are. At the end of the day, they’ve studied a lot of Roman History when they were at the beginning of their years at CJ so they just can’t accept the fact that someone still thinks Augustus was an emperor while he was a princeps. 

The day Reyna turns eighteen they go to national park with Nico, Frank, and Hazel for a daily trip. Reyna loves being in nature and they think a trip to a natural park in California would be the perfect present! The fact is unfortunately no one wants to climb that mountain except for the two of them. At the beginning, Reyna wants to stay with her friends and decides not to go but – “Hazel why are you begging me and Jason to go alone??” 

When they reach the top of the mountain, they sit there looking at the nature around them: the sea, the trees all around and all those little animals they notice from time to time. All of a sudden, Jason starts speaking. He is very nervous (he keeps blushing and looking away from the girl’s eyes).

“Reyna,” he whispers, “I know we’ve been friends for a long time. I actually love being your friend, really. But there’s a problem.” He takes a deep breath as Reyna stares at him with a confused look (“what is he trying to tell me?”). “I don’t think I can do this anymore,” Jason admits, “I don’t think I will be able to be your friend anymore.” Reyna is really confused and hurt at this point because why in this world did he decide to tell her they can’t be friends anymore on her BIRTHDAY? She thought they could make it this time, that they were stronger, and mature enough to make a friendship work, and that they were happy this way. Reyna really likes Jason (also more than a friend, she knows it) and she trusts him with all her heart, but – is he only trying to hurt her again? She shrug her shoulders, telling him silently that she doesn’t want to hear another word and that she’s really upset and disappointed by his behavior.

The moment Jason kisses her, she realizes he doesn’t want to give up on her, he doesn’t want to give up on them. At first, Reyna is a bit surprised, but quickly responds to the kiss, hugging the boy as tight as she can and feeling the butterflies and all that stupid stuff people keep talking about.

“See?” he whispers on her lips, as she finally pulls away, “I don’t think I will be able to be your friend after that. Reyna,” He pauses, looking straight into her dark eyes. “I really like you – I mean, I like you more than this. Would you like to, uhm, try this whatever it is, maybe?” Reyna stares at him for a moment, saying nothing. Jason feels nervous, his heart in his stomach (has he just made the biggest mistake of his life? Is he about to lose his best friend and the girl he likes so much?). But then, Reyna smiles and nods, pulling him into a hug. She really wants to be with him and she couldn’t be happier, now.

The day after that, Jason and Reyna spend all the time together, talking about what college they would like to choose and eating pizza and going for a double date with Percy and Annabeth. Bonus point: the whole CJ already knows they’re dating at this point, and obliviously it’s Gwen’s fault!

Their relationship hasn’t changed that much actually: they like doing the same thing they did when they were “just friends”, BUT Jason would always try to cuddle with her whenever they’re left alone by their friends or the guys at camp. Reyna acts like she’s annoyed by his behavior, but she secretly loves it.

Favourite activity to do together: training and dreaming about going to Split together as they’d promised years ago while they’re sitting in front of New Rome’s Colosseum, sipping their hot chocolates and/or eating jellybeans.

You wish you could love him. You really do. But you’ve been told – you will not find love where you hope or where you wish – and you promised yourself years ago that you’re going to do anything you can not to be hurt again. So you look at him as you’d look at a stranger and you keep your mouth close and your jaw clenched, hoping he won’t ask. 

He doesn’t. (Maybe, he’s just afraid of ruining everything you have been building for all these years.) He just stares in silence, waiting for you to open up and talk about whatever has just happened as you always do. 

(You’ve already told him secrets, things even you weren’t aware of, and you’ve learned to trust him as much as you trust yourself.) 

But this time. This time it’s all different, you can’t tell him. Your mind, your lips, your heart, and your everything isn’t able to. So you stay in silence, almost ignoring him, almost pretending he’s not right there next to you, pretending you don’t know the only thing he wants to do right now is holding you thigh and whispering something into your ear, something so sweet your heart is going to melt. 

Once you’re back home – once Jason is finally safe – you convince yourself that he’s not your best friend. That he’s not the one you keep dreaming of, that he’s not the guy you want to be in love with. You convince yourself that you don’t need him in your life. 

You try to avoid his looks and his questions for a while, and he understands he has to stay away from you and leave you in peace. He won’t ask anything ever again, neither will he take you to the Gardens of Bacchus to have a walk or to New Rome to watch the sunset together. 

You miss him already. You miss your midnight talks and your trainings together, you miss your late dinners made of jellybeans and hot chocolates and the not-so-shy kisses he always gave you on the forehead when he thought you were already sleeping. But most important, you miss your best friend and what he meant to you. 

And, oh gods, the way he keeps looking at you (that hurt but still caring look you’re not even tired of) shatters your heart into a million pieces. You know he feels disappointed and hurt and extremely sad because of your behavior, because you two used to be the best friends, the most powerful duo in the entire camp… and now, now you don’t even talk to each other.

That’s why you’re not that surprised when he comes back home after months and he barely notices you. You hoped he could have forgotten all you’ve done, that he would just pull you into a hug and never let you go again. You hoped he would love you as much as you still love him. But after all, you expected this, and you know you deserve it. 

After all, he deserves to be happy. He really does, because he’s the cutest and most polite and heart-warming guy you’ve ever met, and the only one who’s been able to pick a piece of your heart and make it his. 

He deserves it because the fact yours is now a broken friendship and a broken love is all of your fault – you remember the pain in his eyes he was always trying to hide away too well. 

He gives you a look, just for a second, and you (your heart is beating so loud you can’t even hear what’s going on around you, and you don’t want it to stop) suddenly understand he’s still hurt and broken, but he’s also forgiven you. He doesn’t care about what happened in Charleston, and he wants to start it all over again with you.

A spark of hope – and it begins all again.

Jason coughed in a Kleenex, scrunching his nose up as he glared at the mucus. He turned to Reyna, who giggled at his pout.

“Why did I marry you? You’re laughing at me when I’m sick!”

Reyna laughed louder, her shoulder length brown hair falling into her eyes as she cackled. Jason coughed, his glare deepening.

“Last time I checked, it took a lot of convincing, and the fact that I’ve saved your ass multiple times.”

Reyna chuckled, grabbing a container of Vicks vapor rub off of the bedside table, and opening it. She smiled as she leaned forward, rubbing it onto his chest. “Sana, Sana, Colita de Rana.”

Jason rolled his eyes at the childhood rhyme Reyna sang, memories of her singing it to him when they were younger flashing into his mind.

“Really?” He asked, raising an eyebrow at her.

“What? I’m trying to heal you!” Reyna reminded him, kissing his forehead.

“Yeah,” Jason replied, his voice hoarse. He wrapped an arm around her waist. “Yeah you are.”

Jason had a girlfriend before Piper and it’s not Reyna. When Jason hit puberty, girls took interest in him. She was a pretty girl in the third cohort who asked him out suddenly. Surprised, Jason said yes stupidly. They only dated for a few weeks and broke up because she made Jason choose between her and Reyna. Easy choice, Jason said cheekily, when he broke up with her.

Jason was centurion at around 14 and then elected to praetor at 15. He rose quickly because he knew Camp Jupiter system since he was younger. After he was praetor, he actually asked Reyna to be his co-praetor. Senators were actually opposed of her but Reyna’s leadership, quest track record and dedication, they agreed.

Jason is actually good at paperwork. He just doesn’t like doing it and kind of tolerate it because he’s doing it with Reyna. He’s the one who has a sweet tooth out of the two, picking up brownies or pack of jelly beans to munch on wile working. Reyna teases he’s gonna get fat which makes Jason exercise twice as hard.

Jason visits his foster mother a lot while he was in the cohort. Her name is Aurelia, a sweet but stern woman who mostly took care of Jason when he was younger. They’re close, always talking about his problems. She’s the first one who thought there was something more between Jason and Reyna when Jason brought Reyna with him to a visit when Reyna first came to camp. When Jason disappeared, Reyna kept the tradition up and visited Aurelia even when things are rough.

Jason draws, sketches in his spare time which is rare. It’s usually random things like a view from the Senate or the lake beside New Rome. Reyna’s metal dogs are frequently his muse since he sketches while doing paperwork. Slowly, he started including Reyna in those drawings. This might be when Jason realizes he likes Reyna more than just friends. 

Oh man, a heartbreaking thought is that Reyna found a sketching Jason did of her after he left. It’s done lovingly with Reyna asleep by her favorite tree in Mars Fields with Aurum sleeping in her lap with a heartfelt note in the corner.

Now I’m sad… Who wants to ask me for some happy pre-HoO Jeyna memories!?

Do you have any headcanons on Roman!Jason would have been like? would he be arrogant, prideful and bossy as the son of jupiter or humble and wanting to prove himself since he's from the fifth cohort?

Let’s see what I can come up with:

I love the idea of the whole community raising Jason as a kid. Like everyone did their part even people who don’t like him. He’s a very adorable and charming child, curious to a fault. I’m just imagining a grumpy old senator who had to babysit Jason and Jason almost has an accident before the senator saves him.

I think gradually people started treating him differently as he grew older, intentionally or not. Like an off hand comment about him being the son of Jupiter or he’s destined for greatness, when he does something amazing. He hates it like it devalues his hard work. It makes him work even harder and tries to tamper down his powers.

Jason chose the Fifth cohort despite being offered to join more pristine  cohorts. He kind of welcomed the bad rep they have, hoping it would overshadow his golden lineage. It did for a bit. Kids teased him, forgetting he’s the son of Jupiter. He does at well and then accidentally uses his powers. 

Jason took on a lot of quests, half because of his powers and lineage, half to try to make the Fifth great again. The first quest was a disaster. He was with a few senior members from the first cohort. They argued, fought and nearly killed if they didn’t ran into Reyna. That’s how they met. She helped them on their quest and then they took her to Lupa.

Reyna is the first person who didn’t treat Jason special. Being around Circe, she had low opinions of boys in general. She gradually grew out of that, meeting amazing Romans of all gender, but at first she could careless about Jason. To be honest, I don’t think she knew he was son of Jupiter until he tried to fly to kick her out of the way. Jason liked that about her, how she didn’t know much about New Rome but wanted to know more. He was sad when they had to leave her with Lupa to train.

A huge head canon of mine is Reyna pushed Jason to be better. He grew used to people expecting great things from him that Reyna’s indifference towards him annoyed him. She always bested him around age 12 to 14. Combat started swinging towards his side around 15 since Jason hit puberty. 

Another head canon of mine is she went on all his quests. Since the first quest where they met, Jason always trusted Reyna. At first, he would make up excuses like she can help with this or only Reyna is able to do this. Gradually over time, excuses grew fewer and they would just look at each other when there’s a quest with a smile.

AU where Jason and Reyna did not get separated and became the strongest praetor couple in the history of the Twelfth Legion

- fighting them separately, the chances of winning are slim, but fighting them together is just straight up having a death wish

- when Reyna uses her pilum (spear) to jump over the enemies, Jason summons the winds to aid her movements so she seems to glide through the air. She somersaults easily, dodging enemy attacks, and slashing with her sword with jumps much higher than normal as if her cape are wings. She earns the nickname “Queen Eagle” because of this.

- when Jason is fighting a much larger enemy, he wraps his sword with electricity. Reyna amplifies his power so the lightning surrounds Jason’s whole body. Jason can only maintain this invincible armor for a few minutes, but that’s enough time for him to destroy whatever’s in his path. The enemies only see a blur of Jason’s blond hair before they get vaporized, so they call him the “Golden Lightning”.

- They both sense whenever one of them is in danger. Reyna is a melee fighter so most enemies try to take her out from long distance with projectile weapons. But Jason can sense using the winds when one is flying toward her, so he easily deflects them from their trajectory.

- When Jason is drained by using his powers too much or overwhelmed by foes, Reyna feels it because of their bond. She sends a surge of strength that revitalizes him. He feels the adrenaline rush and a sudden course of energy that allows him to summon wind and lightning wreak havoc anew.

- together, the Queen Eagle and the Golden Lightning are more than enough to compensate for the loss of the legion’s eagle.
