It’s Time to Defend Sam Manson
I want to preface this by saying that Sam, as we see in canon, is written/meant to be a passionate activist that cares about the environment, her friends, and who thinks a lot about others. She is not free from being problematic or flawed. That is not what I’m saying at all. I’m writing this because quite honestly? I’m sick of the amount of hate and criticism Sam gets as a character, especially when she is far from being the worst character on the show, or even out of the main trio, to the point that it literally clutters the “Sam Manson” and related such tags. I wanted to take on some of the biggest things I see with Sam’s character that people criticize and either provide an alternate way of thinking, or just…kind of show, given canon evidence, why the critique is just straight up not accurate. And I’m writing this about Sam specifically because I see more criticism about her and her character more than literally every single other character in the show, including villains, combined.
Also: Sam. Is. Fourteen. Please keep that in mind. Keep in mind that Sam is fourteen years old, along with most of the main teenagers we see in the show, though some are fifteen at some point and others are sixteen.
Another important note: Since the Phandom does NOT CONSIDER PHANTOM PLANET TO BE CANON, I WILL NOT INCLUDE PHANTOM PLANET IN THIS DISCUSSION. DO NOT come at me about this. EVERYBODY IN THIS EPISODE WAS OOC, INCLUDING SAM. You cannot claim an episode is not canon and actively leave it out of all discussion points, fanfiction, art, future fanfics, headcanons, etc, and then bring it in when it suits your argument for this point. It’s either completely gone, or it’s there. I have chosen to exclude it because of how it literally made EVERY CHARACTER OOC AND THE ENTIRE PLOT HAD BAD HOLES AND ISSUES, not just Sam and her entire character, and thus: I feel it’s a very pointless discussion point to bring up.
My last important note. I will not be responding to anybody who comments, replies, or rebuttal posts in general. I am not interested in debating you. This post is meant to be a breakdown and analysis of the common complaints I see for Sam to give a new perspective on what I think the points are not accurate, not an open discussion/debate. This is meant for people who want a fresh, alternative, or a different way of looking at Sam’s character, and not meant for people who seem to be deadset on disliking her no matter what anybody says. If this changes your mind, awesome. If not, oh well. Again, I’m not debating or responding to comments or replies. I’ve heard 90% of your rebuttals and arguments and such already because y’all are constantly posting your stuff in the Sam Manson tag. If you do comment or reply, you are talking into void, because you will not be hearing back from me. We can all co-exist with our opinions, and I hear the negative opinions more than I’d ever care to imagine. Please let me exist with this opinion in peace. Make your own post.
