I watched Practical Magic and it just struck me how the scene where the entire village's women turn into a coven would be so inconceivable today. The town has passed down taunting songs about this one family for centuries and they're kind of ostracized, but when it counts they can just call a phone tree full of women who don't even really like them, and somehow they all come together to hex out a bothersome ghost? Then you realise that oh yeah Sally has a business, they're a part of the village. Even if some people don't like them it's still understood that everyone helps a neighbor in need. Yeah. No, that's not something that would fly in this day and age. I wish it would, though.
