This is a sideblog, and I follow back from my main @grimmusings. Please direct IMs there, since it's easier for me to keep all my messages on one blog. Mordred is a canon character from Arthurian legends. All details vary based on verse, but in general he's a mix of headcanons and various folklore, with influences from Camelot Rising by Kiersten White. I'm happy to write him into AUs and fandom crossovers.

"I wouldn't drink that, if I were you." Mordred eyed the cup in their hand. If he wasn't much mistaken, that was faerie wine, though how it gotten there, he couldn't have said. He'd guess the human to non-human ratio at this absurdly lavish party was about fifty/fifty, which meant the percentage of food or beverages that could be trusted at it was zero.

Never take food or drink from the fae.

It was one of their oldest rules, repeated often enough, and with enough gravity, that it even appeared in the humans' stories sometimes. A lot of useful things did, if people bothered to look. But Mordred of all people knew you couldn't always trust what you read. Just look at how his story had turned out. Killing the King of Camelot. What utter garbage.

"Well… I probably would," he acknowledged, in the spirit of truthfulness. While it was true the fair folk couldn't tell an outright lie, he had the fortune of being half human, which neatly canceled out that rule. The human half would fuck you every time. "But I don't mind waking up at the bottom of a hill two states away, with no memory of how I got there. If that's your idea of a good time, go right ahead."

A warning ahead of time might have been better, but it was the first time they had seen the man. They looked over at him, their eyebrow arching. It had only been their third drink of the evening, but they could feel the alcohol coursing through their veins. It was the first time they had been to one of these parties, and they were told that they were great. They didn't know much about whatever realms were out there -- all they wanted was to drink and to not remember things about the evening. "Why? Someone sneak something into it and you did nothing to stop it?" they asked, pointing toward him and raising a challenging eyebrow. They took their drink and down it in one gulp. If Viv did anything, it was always the opposite of what people told her. That was what got her into trouble in the first place. It was why they were trying to escape. To get away from everything for just a moment. They snorted, turning to look over at him and nodding. "That, my friend, is exactly what I'm trying to do. So you're really not selling me on the whole don't drink that thing." That, and they already drank it.

"I gave you a warning. That's hardly nothing," he drawled, head tilting back against the sofa he was draped over. That was pretty much Mordred's brand of morality in a nutshell. He might not actively try to stop the terrible things, but he might amuse himself with warnings or punishment. That was at least twice as much morality as most of his fae brethren had, though, and he had a bit of a soft spot for humans, having made his home among them for so long.

"I suppose the moral thing would be to make sure you don't end up ensorcelled under a faerie mound for the next hundred and fifty years." He leaned, a hand briefly circling their wrist, and murmured some words in another language under his breath. Those uncanny eyes flashed briefly silver with the spell, and a tattoo of a thorned vine snaked its way around their wrist. If anyone tried to take advantage of them while they were under the effects of faerie wine, it would come alive and throttle them. "It'll wear off when you sober up."

It was a problem, and admittedly one he'd been having for centuries. He had an elbow resting on the arm of the couch, chin in hand while he watched the hot mess in question across the room with a little sigh of longing.

It wasn't that he hadn't noticed the half-naked girl next to him, but as a general rule, one did not pay attention to girls who didn't know how they came to be half-naked on a couch. Faerie wine would do that to a mortal, but he supposed irregular quantities of human alcohol would do the trick too. "True on both counts. Getting railed has a way of improving the mood. And if two gorgeous people in one bed can't fix it… that shit's broken beyond repair," he snickered.

A loud sigh escaped Viv's lips at his words, large eyes flicking over to the person in question. This alcohol had been different than anything they had before -- they'd been warned before that fae wine, but it felt like their body was floating. Magic was only something their brother had talked about like it was a fairy tale, and finding out that those stories were real? Blew their mind. They push themselves up, moving to drape themselves along the back of the sofa and smirking at him. "We'd have fun either way," they respond with a giggle, reaching up to pull their fingers through their long chocolate curls, "So, what d'you say? Three gorgeous people? One bed? Sounds lovely."

He tipped his head, eyes slitting in enjoyment when they ran their fingers through his hair. Mordred was very much like a cat who enjoyed pets and knocking breakable things off tables for fun. "Let it never be said I turned down an offer like that. Do we have a game plan, or are we winging it?" He was more prone to the latter, but if they had a strategy in mind, far be it from him to object. Mordred could strategize if pressed--he could even be rather clever at times--but thinking things through was so much more boring than action. He shifted to move that long, sinuous body off the couch, stretching a little, his gaze shifting from their chosen mark to them. Just as lovely and, by the looks of things, just as messy. Unfortunately, that was very much his type.

No, definitely more hungry than cold, though Bren could see how the other may come to that conclusion... the temperature had plummeted without warning, turning from a brisk autumn day to a frigid night in the matter of hours. If not for what he was, the chill would have already crept beneath his clothes and into his bones. Mordred didn't always have the clearest concept of what other beings needed. He was half-human himself, but the fae half meant he could probably survive a winter's night in a blizzard naked as the day he was born. He didn’t want to. That sounded unpleasant as fuck. But he probably could. A quirk of a smile twitched the corner of his mouth, and he idly flicked a hand as if to brush away the idea. "Downright balmy."

An eyebrow arched as she looked over at him, and she slowly began to shift toward him with a smirk on her lips. She didn’t remember how she ended up here, half naked and stretched out upon the furniture. Really, even that was too many clothes for her liking — but she had to show some kind of decency, right? Her teeth sunk into her lower lip, the robe she was wearing sliding down her shoulder as her head tipped to the side. Her fingers danced on the surface below her, an eyebrow arching.

“And who knows, maybe that will fix him. Sometimes all someone needs is a good fuck and they feel better.”

"Such an exhibitionist," he teased. Mordred had never been about power, either in having it or wielding it over people. He was here purely for the entertainment, hers and his own of course. Henry didn't seem to be enjoying the show much.

Frightening people wasn't usually his go-to move. He released his hand and let him stumble away with a look of mock disappointment. "Some people are no fun. Imagine being scared of a little three-way teasing." So many good things in life were missed out on if you limited yourself to just one.

Persephone placed a hand over the man’s heart, gently pushing him away but his grip on her was strong. No matter, she knew she was safe with Mordred around. “That’s too bad Henry… we could have had so much fun together… ” she pouted, pretending to be upset. As much as the stranger was attractive, he had nothing over Mordred. In a room full of the most handsome men on the planet, she’d choose him in a heartbeat.

The man’s grip loosened lightly and she took the opportunity to wiggle away from him to be by Mordred’s side. She grabbed his chin between her pointy finger and her thumb and gently pulled his face down to hers, her lips parting slightly, tip of her tongue darting out to trace his bottom lip.

​Attractiveness wasn’t everything. Mordred knew he had plenty of that to work with, but he’d been around enough terrible, beautiful people not to let it sway him. Not willing to play games with them bumped the guy down to a solid C-. Not even quite average. Boring. He didn’t hesitate to curl an arm around her waist and slide his body between them when she wiggled away.

He was momentarily forgotten as he let her guide his face to hers, tongue flicking out to chase the taste of her on his lips. Maybe he would have said something, but he was distracted by the hand reaching for her. Mordred snagged his wrist and twisted casually, enough to cause discomfort but not break bones. "What should we do with this?" He spoke to her like Henry wasn’t standing there awkwardly trying and failing to break his grip.

The man she had been dancing with until now, completely forgotten. In fact the man was watching them confused, wondering what the hell was going on and why she had stopped grinding against him like she actually wanted him. But she did not. She didn’t and now the person she truly wanted attention from was right next to her. Persephone didn’t want to give Mordred the satisfaction of knowing that he had her under his charm so she kept her hand pressed against the man’s strong chest. “I don’t know… Will you?” she asked sweetly to the guy looking at her like she was a mad woman, jealousy apparent over his face. The guy frowned, glaring at Mordred while wrapping his arm around her waist and pulling her closer possessively. “Back off man, I saw her first”

Only an absolute fool would have turned down that invitation from her. He had the strong sense that they were standing in front of an absolute fool. His own smile wasn't nearly as sweet, too sharp around the edges for anything that tame, but it was its own kind of invitation. Unfortunately, he didn't seem to appreciate Mordred looking him over like he was something to eat. He could practically see his hackles raising.

"Careful. I think he's going to drag you back to his cave," he mocked, those leaf green eyes flashing silver with mischief. Over his dead body was anyone dragging her anywhere. She could go where she pleased of her own free will, of course. He might try to persuade her otherwise, but he wouldn’t stop her. There was a thin line between the fun possessive and the creepy possessive though, and this guy was riding it hard.

Mordred had never been the jealous type. He had a the-more-the-merrier attitude that held firm as long as he was still invited to the party. He did enjoy playing this little game with her though. Somehow, he sensed her new companion wasn’t going to be that agreeable, and that was where things got interesting. Making someone else jealous would make his day.

His own power was grounded entirely in nature and all things green, but he could pull out a few borrowed tricks or convince another element to do his bidding from time to time. He ran a magic shop, after all. It was the cool breath of winter on the back of her neck, the flowers suddenly twining through her hair with a scent that would make mortals swoon, and he was smirking as he felt the buzz of his phone.

He didn't answer it, simply sliding it back into his pocket and joining her. "Is that an invitation, little goddess?" He loomed at her back, fingers brushing the bare skin of her thigh just below the hem of her dress, not quite beyond the limits of public decorum. "And will your new friend be joining us?"

She should have been more surprised to see him than she was. Settling down against the trunk of the tree, she tipped her head to study him, a smile of her own crossing her face as she did. She’d spent enough time traveling and bouncing around cities to know how rare it was to just cross paths with someone more than once. Even in a place as relatively small as the town of Fableton was, she rarely ran into people repeatedly. “Ah, so you’re the reason for the grumpy kelpie,” she teased, a soft bubble of laughter escaping her as she shook her head lightly at him. “You’re missing part of your wardrobe. Leaving the leaves with their trees today?” Her eyes danced with mischief as she recalled their original meeting.

"Listening to people being eaten alive makes me tense, so it was him or me." He smiled blandly up at the sky, dots of vivid blue just visible through the leaves. It was beautiful here, so much that he could almost pretend he wasn't still a stone's throw from civilization. Living in a town, even a small one, was hard for the half-fae, but he also knew from experience that he'd miss people if he tried to disappear off the map. That was his lot in life, apparently. Never fitting fully into either world.

He glanced down at himself, eyebrows slowly rising, and there was absolutely something suggestive about it. He was fairly certain he was fully clothed. More's the pity. He definitely had a fae's attitude about casual nudity. "I thought I'd be generous this time." He closed his eyes, a slow smile spreading over his face as new leaves began to sprout and grow around the trunk where she was sitting. The tree was dead, so without constant magic, they wouldn't live long, but he could conjure them for now. Dead things often gave way to new life.

“It would take someone from another world,” she mused with a roll of her eyes. These days, there was really no one that would care about any of their secrets.  Even just finding someone who believed that they were who they were and from when they were felt more than a little laughable some days. She actually rather liked life here, even if she hated the city. 

“The worst sort of dick,” she smirked slowly at him. Her eyes flicked up to the box with a sigh, “That’s actually one of those not fun quirks about this place.” Waving her hand, it floated about halfway down from the ceiling, making her stomp her foot in irritation. “How are you even conscious right now?” Amusement was clear on her face for him to see.

"I could make a fortune as a therapist in this town, if only I could stand all their whining." He was a little surprised none of the fables had gravitated toward the position. Most of them were badly in need of therapy. Mordred could barely tolerate humans, even the magical ones, on his best days though. He considered most people to be use-sparingly.

"Ugh. I can't believe you went there." He couldn't help a laugh, but the shudder of disgust was equally real. He loved a good dick joke as much as anyone, but not about Uther Pendragon. He yawned, wondering the same himself. "A human on a motorcycle woke me up." He reached for the box, jumping for it when it came no closer and then scowling at her when it hovered just out of reach. "You did that on purpose."

Maia could hear her parents in her head, chastising her for being moodier than Mother Nature. She always thought she was like her mother could have been at her age if she hadn’t been settled down and married. Wild hearts had a way of winning out for better or worse. She loved the cities and nature in equal measure, needing them both for some kind of stability she couldn’t fully put into words for other people. She had a new appreciation for the woods that came with her hometown after her travels and often found herself wandering them. 

Deep into them today, having been lost in her head, the sound of a familiar voice made her shake her head with an amused smile. “A grumpy kelpie in a creek, huh? Are you a grumpy Mordred today?” She wandered over to lean against a tree easily in his line of sight.

"Well hello, little pretty." The sound of a familiar voice didn't get him out of his spot, but he did deign to turn his head and smile at her. He'd thought about the clever humany-human he'd met in a parking lot more than once since their conversation, and it was unusual for people to stick with him. That they were running into each other a second time unprompted struck him as even more unusual, even for a relatively small town. Morgana liked to say that things happened the way they were meant to. From a long enough perspective, he could usually see her point, even if he didn't want to admit it to her. There were patterns, nudges, forces at work too obscure for even him to understand, but they were undeniably there.

"As it turns out, making other people grumpy puts me in a very good mood." His smile turned sly and mischievous. Warning people away from the creek was, frankly, rude to water fae that just needed to eat, but Mordred never claimed to be polite. He wasn't even particularly well-meaning. He just didn't want to listen to screams of the dying and meat being shredded while he was trying to relax. Like most things he did, there was an angle in it for him.
