As a queer person whose family had to flee China due to the shit that went down during the Great Leap Forward, only to live through 1965 and 1998 in Indonesia, I definitely relate to this. Every time, I swear to god- I see a fellow queer person but they've got hammer and sickle stuff or even a freakin. Mao Zedong bust or some shit like that amongst their belongings my hackles immediately go right up.

It was an operation performed by our police which involved creating a massive database of queer people, they would track those people down, force them to sign documents, provide fingerprints, make confessions, denounce their partners or colleagues.

Yesterday, on 2.07.2026, approximately at 2:20 AM a russian missile exploded right next to my flat.

I woke up with glass shards all around me and a door from another room that collided with mine, almost barricading me inside my bedroom. Every window and door in the apartment was blown out by the explosion. My family's car burned to the crisp. The entrance door of the flat was stuck and people have spent 40 minutes trying to break it open with hammers and axes.

Despite great material damage, miraculously, me and my family wasn't injured. Even my laptop and drawing tablet have somehow survived, despite being left right by the window. And, thankfully, I have another place to go to, where I'll be living full-time from now on.

The only thing I want to tell you guys, remember that Russia is a terrorist state. That night dozens of people have died and even more got injured or lost their every possession. I was lucky to only suffer material losses. Attacks like this one have been happening since 2014 on the east side of Ukraine and for four years now all over the country and will continue. Our UNESCO protected landmarks are being destroyed and whole cities are being wiped out by missiles and drones.

Please, be mindful and avoid supporting russian organisations, and don't spread misinformation about the war. This is very important, because info war is just as much of a real part of the war as physical destruction is. If you have the means to, donate to Ukrainian volunteers. Support those who are dear to you.

But even after that life goes on. I still have to collect all of my paperwork for the graduation and applying for uni. People will be going back to work and meeting with friends.

Media literacy hot take and I’m not sure some of you are ready for it:

if a fictional character is russian and lives during Russia’s military aggression against another country, and the work never addresses their thoughts or position on that war in any way, it automatically reinforces an already existing space where russians are not expected to reflect on the criminal actions of their state or their fellow citizens.

At the same time, it reassures russians — through foreign media — that the world also doesn’t see this as their problem.

If you believe that giving a fictional character a stance on their country’s military invasion "isn’t important", or that “there’s no reason to bring it up” because the story is just about their everyday life, then it’s hard to expect anything more responsible from real people.

“This is just a story about the struggles of an ordinary german dude during World War II — without touching on war or nazism, because he’s just a civilian and his personal life is already difficult” — i hope the analogy speaks for itself.

So please, don’t forget: while fictional films are being made about russians, documentaries are being made about the victims of their country.

Russian destruction of the Kakhovka dam flooded around 620 km² of land between the 6th and 9th June, including 333,000 hectares of protected areas, 10,000 hectares of agricultural land and more than 11,000 hectares of forests. More than 14.7 km³ of water was released, affecting 80 settlements along the Dnipro and its tributaries and directly impacting 100,000 people. 10 settlements on the occupied left bank were most severely affected with Oleshky and Hola Prystan remaining flooded for more than a month.

More than 1,000 potential pollution sources were inundated by floodwaters, including fuel storage and transit infrastructure – a large oil spill occurred in Komyshany when an oil pipeline was damaged. Numerous chemical, industrial and agro-industrial sites were also affected, such as the major shipbuilding and port complex in Kherson. Waste was mobilised from landfills, sewage facilities and properties. In Oleshky alone, flooding affected cemeteries, tailings piles and 37,000 homes. 11 Minefields and at least 47 military positions were flooded, dispersing military pollutants and transporting unexploded ordnance. The dam itself was also a pollution source, discharging around 150 of the 450 tonnes of fuel oil it was thought to have held.

The huge water volumes caused flooding and physical changes to the ecologically sensitive wetlands in the lower Dnipro. In the Black Sea, the rapid outflow of polluted freshwater impacted coastal and marine ecosystems.

Agriculture rapidly began to be affected, impacting livelihoods. The reservoir had been a source of drinking water for one million people; emergency water trucking, well drilling and costly pipeline construction was launched to restore supplies.

I'm not saying to stop using tumblr if you don't want to, I'm a broken record about this on main but even if you only use the internet via phone, I swear to god mobile browser is literally Fine and maybe better than the app (I've used mobile browser tumblr for 14 years and have never encountered most of the issues the app users describe). Four years ago I woke up at 5 am from distant explosions. I asked my boyfriend if he heard them too, he said he didn’t and I should go back to sleep. I tried to calm myself down, went on the internet, it was silent, no news or explanations. I told myself that those were just some weird street noises. Half an hour later I woke up again from the same noses, but louder. This time, there were news: russia launched a full scale invasion. In these 4 years I’ve felt layers of fear, hatred and sorrow I never thought were possible. The war completely changed my perception of the world and justice, it forced me to reevaluate everything in my life and everything I believed in. I’m not very good with words, so today I’ll be sharing some of my very personal artworks exploring some of the complicated feelings and experiences I had over the past 4 years. The war still goes on, in fact it has been going on since 2014 not 2022. russians still kill, rape, torture Ukrainian people, destroy our cities and do everything in their power to erase our nation from this world. Just pretend I've written something meaningful and profound to commemorate the four years since the full-scale invasion, because I have nothing new or deep to say.

My hometown has been under occupation since 2014. My parents probably already have russian citizenship, because you can't survive there otherwise. But I don't ask them about it.

The town most dear to my heart is now in ruins, and Ukraine is slowly losing ground there - but, more importantly, lives. So it has become another cemetery, a concrete desert among many others, like I knew it would. The frontline has now reached the little village where I spent the first few years of my life, and which I still see in my dreams sometimes, however fuzzy - a little house on the hill, summer, tall grass (it probably seemed way taller because I was so small), my great grandma and I harvesting berries in a raspberry patch, a tapestry with deer on it in the summer house. None of it exists anymore, or ever will again.

I saw some war footage with russians hiding in a graveyard, probably somewhere in those parts. It could have been one of countless little graveyards, but for some reason, for the first time, I imagined my great-grandma's grave being uprooted by a missile, and that thought made me sick.

Thinking about any of it makes me sick. I don't think I can feel the normal spectrum of human emotions regarding the war anymore. It's either sickness or nothingness.

Living in Donetsk, in 2016 or so, I remember thinking - it'll be over soon, it can't go on much longer. In 2021, I faced the truth - it's not going to end. I need to leave and try to start over, so I did. In 2026, I'm trying not to think about anything. Not to count years. Not to plan. Not to stare too long as elderly mothers bring flowers to the portraits of their fallen sons and wipe stains off their photograph faces. Because thinking about any of it, looking at it, is unbearable, and only gets worse as time goes on.

May russia crumble into a thousand pitiful pieces.
