Making of the birthday Piñata.
So this sunday is my mexican flatemate birthday and she taught me the ancestral craft of piñata.
The inspo from her IA generated invitation card : an alpine cow 😅
She cuts bands of silk paper, fold them in half, cut a fringe in them, and fold them back again to obtain this fluffy / curly effect. We didn't see anything like this in piñata online, but it has a great volumetric effect.
I took inspiration from traditional paper models for the head, a simple but efficient pattern.
We used a carboard box instead of papier mâché on balloon to save time, hence the cartoonish proportions of the cow. We still reinforced it with journal and flour glue.
Kiddo had the genius idea of having it chew grass, which we immediatly obliged.
We added legs, and equiped it with all the wiring necessary. At that point everybody doubted of the head proportions but i knew that it would look great with all the fluff.
The issue of the marks on the fur was pretty technical, considering it meant a more chaotic application of the fluffy bands.
We used all the dark colors and then filled inbetween with lighter colors.
Added a diy bell and voilà ! Ready to get destroyed 😅
