I love how tarantinos little manbaby diss fit completely backfired and now my IG is just a solid outpouring of love for Matthew Lillard. Like you can't diss a guy who has a dedicated 30 year fan base, who is so kind to his fans and has never had a scandal or said a bad word about anyone. Nobody gives a shit what Tarantino thinks anymore.

Ah. There you are. Here I am.
🙂↕️ yes ma'am
Like yes Xena was made in the 90s and the network was extremely worried about the perception of it as gay so they tried to put some constraints on the show
but Lucy Lawless has said that the writers knew what they were doing from the start (meaning, they were writing Gabrielle and Xena as love interests from the very beginning) and that it actually dawned on her when she and her costar Renee O'Connor read a fan article about the queer subtext in the show. Lucy also said in an interview that she believes the relationship came across authentically and was compelling even before they realized Gabrielle and Xena were love interests, because she and Renee were already making love the focal point of their relationship on-screen:
We never thought about sexuality or anything, but we did think about love, and it’s only about finding the love in the scene. When you don’t know what else to do, look for the love in the scene. And that was, I guess, the magic ingredient.
In the end, Lucy and Renee were extremely aware of the queer coding of their characters and Lucy has talked about the concept of queer coding in the 90s to make the relationship possible without the show being cancelled:
Like, Renee would go to Texas and she'd say something about the lesbian subtext and they'd go, "What lesbian subtext?" Like if it's not relevant to you, you won't see it. If it's relevant to you, it'll be there in spades. It's very clever.
So if you ever think, "I want to watch Xena but I wish it were canonically gay." It is. It is. They are.
