Will of the Empress by Tamora Pierce:
-addresses rape culture
-itās culturally allowed to kidnap a woman into marriage
-ātechnicallyā itās frowned upon but who does that stop
-twisted POV that if a woman isnāt strong enough to escape she DESERVES IT
-the messy world where even fellow women have come to think that
-addresses ānot all menā
-well liked man complains heās being judged and the women shut him down and explain why they HAVE to be fearful of everyone
-he is quite as he realizes theyāre right, then begins a crusade against the horrible rape practice
-team of characters who do not accept the rape culture
-they think the horrors of the rape culture outweigh any benefits of living there
-they take no slack from rapists and sexist pricks
-tons of sassy comments
-force feeding respect women juice to every single character and reader
Me, scouring the kitchen for cookies: :( :( :( :(
Me, remembering my secret stash of Samoa: COO- KEY?!
The song Control by Halsey has always reminded me of Percy in Tartarus.
āI'm bigger than my body
I'm colder than this home
I'm meaner than my demons
I'm bigger than these bones
And all the kids cried out, "Please stop, you're scaring me"
I can't help this awful energy
God damn right, you should be scared of me
Who is in control?ā
I picture Percy at the edge of the cliff, killing his enemy with her own fluids. Annabeth, scared of his power.
If thereās one good thing about the hijacking? Peeta has always had a romanticized version of Katniss. In his eyes she was perfect, and she took it for granted how much he adored her (she makes note of this after the hijacking). But by having to start back in square 1, having to work back to their love, it puts them on an even field. They see each other for what they are. When they are in love by the end, itās REAL and not a blind romance through rose colored glasses. Against the odds they find each other again and thatās why their love is so strong and beautiful
Imagine... ballad of songbirds and snakes...a fantasy story where the elite are so concerned with themselves, their image, their legacy, their future, their wealth, that they convince themself everything which they do is for the benefit of humankind... even though everyone can see that the non elite, the people deemed ābeneathā are suffering, dying, failing just to survive... A fantasy story where the character who has a moral compass, who cares deeply for all around him, who hates the system, who tries to fight against the system the best he knows how, is punished, is laughed at, is deemed an emotional fool who doesnāt know anything about the real world, who is ultimately put to death for daring to see humanity in others... A fantasy story where those in power value being in control more than they value the lives of those around them... now imagine if it wasnāt a mere dystopian fantasy
I see similarity between snow/lucy and Katniss/gale. āLoveā out of neccesary, out of survival. But fundamentally different, leading to an ultimate crack that can never redeem whatever (if any) emotion was there
Reading the hunger games prequel is so interesting knowing how everything turns out. SPOILERS
-cousins with Tigris, who helps rebels in the end?
-he lost all his fortune in district 13, adding to his hatred
-the name Katniss will always be associated with his lost āloveā
-he hates mockingjays from the moment he sees them
-reference to star crossed lovers
-female tribute from 12 causing a scene at the reaping and earning the love of the people
-his lost love WROTE the hanging tree song that becomes a calling card for katniss
-He and LG use poison, which will become his calling card
-the grandmaamās obsession with the roses
-Snows involvement in turning the games into the required participation they become
-snow convincing himself that everything he does is right
-his endless obsession with power and status and how he is seen
-being on the ground in district 12, KNOWING the lay of the land of his enemy, Katniss
-his hatred of the districts from the very beginning
Watching him turn into the presidential monster and losing his humanity while still believing that he is the only humane person

Rereading a book from my younger years.. Gregor the Overlander and the Marks of Secret. (Spoilers). At a younger age the full allusion of the story didnāt hit me, but now being able to recognize that the nibblerās story played out EXACTLY like those who died in the Holocaust brought me straight to tears. How impressive that a fantastical story of giant animals, prophecies, and purple eyed people can teach a lesson of racism, prejudice, and war.
Why am I in love with jughead jones
heres to sideways for adding so much depth to my two favourite movies that i simply cannot watch either of them anymore
Ok but making Betty the car expert is the single best character choice ever to be made
