It wasn’t all too uncommon to hear that they were perfect for each other. They complemented each other in so many ways, and while sometimes they could butt heads over the most ridiculous, they always got over it pretty quickly. And that, most of the time, involved one of Dani’s favourite past times: enjoying naked Santana. Ever since they exchanged those three little words, their relationship seemed to grow exponentially stronger. Their fights were more intense, as was the making up, but Dani wouldn’t have it any other way. It was getting increasingly difficult to even imagine her life without Santana, and while that would have scared her months ago, she sought comfort in it now.
At least, she had been, until Santana started acting strange. Dani couldn’t quite pinpoint it. It wasn’t like they were spending less time together, or anything of the sort, but there was something off about her. Her work schedule seemed weird, and maybe Dani was paranoid, but she swore it wasn’t as it used to be. Her mind didn’t want to go there, and she had promised herself she never would - but sometimes it was easy to let it drift off to the ‘what ifs’ she was trying so hard to push away. It wasn’t something she was seriously considering - because they were past that, and she knew Santana would never cheat on her again. But it was difficult to push those thoughts away, especially when her girlfriend could act so suspicious at times.
It really wasn’t something she was going to bring up, because it wasn’t an issue. Not yet. So she made sure to push it to the back her mind, and it helped when Santana replied to her text that yes, she could go chill at the loft while she waited for her. Her shift had ended early, something about her boss wanting to shut down and drink alone for some sad reason, and there was no point in going home when she was going to meet in an hour anyway.
It would be nice to see Kurt and Rachel, too, and when she got to the loft, they easily all fell into their usual discussions. There was no Santana to make fun of most of what Rachel said, or complain about her shit snacks (which was basically just voicing Dani’s thoughts), but it was fun nonetheless.
Santana came in in her usual hurried fashion, and Dani half-expected a rant and half-expected her to huff and request Dani join her in bed. Her girlfriend hated the diner, and something always happened - but lately, she seemed a lot more cool about it. Maybe Gunther had finally given her a break. “Kurt’s complaining because he hasn’t had sex in weeks.” Dani called out while Santana was still on the other side of the curtains, and she giggled at the glare Kurt shot her. They both liked teasing the guy, and she knew he wasn’t actually upset anyways.
When Santana joined them, she easily returned the kiss with a small smile, and her hands grabbed at her thighs to pull them over her lap as she mouthed a reply to her greeting.
It was so easy to hate your job when you could come home and throw back to the beautiful sound of Dani Harper’s voice. Santana knew she was lucky. She let everyone know she damn well knew, and she didn’t give a crap about smearing her goddamn relationship in people’s faces. They were happy, people simply had to suck it up or get out of her grill ‘cause her girl was flawless. Five months together and they were still growing strong, especially after they’d confessed their true feelings to one another. Things were still pretty and pink, and perhaps that was why Santana hadn’t been able to tell her girlfriend about getting fired just yet.
The comment about Kurt lacking the horizontal tango had her snickering as she easily let her legs swing across her girlfriend’s gorgeous thighs. “Aw, you miss playing the meat flute, Hummel?” Her question was proposed with an exaggerated pout as she absentmindedly reached out for Dani’s hands. They tangled together and she squeezed at the fingers as she moved in to let her head rest against her girlfriend’s shoulder. Maybe Dani would understand. Maybe she’d support her getting her ass out of the diner and moving on, though Santana knew that moving on to a place with tiny ass orange hot pants probably wouldn’t be approved.
“What ‘bout a movie?” She asked, interrupting whatever everyone was talking about, because now that she was home, she wanted to have an enjoyable night with her girl. A movie night was always the perfect opportunity for just that. They got to curl up beneath a blanket, ignore her loud and annoying roommates, and just be them for a little while. Rachel and Kurt already began talking about how they’d considered several classics for tonight’s movie watching and while pretending to listen, she tilted her head back to look up at her girl. “You eaten yet, baby?” Her fingers were still squeezing at Dani’s as she shot her a small smile.
