The Nativity (painted by Palestinian artists)

On Christmas Eve I found an amazing FB page: ‘The Art of Occupied Palestine.’ https://www.facebook.com/ArtOfPalestine/

It features a number of Nativity scenes painted by contemporary Palestinian artists. 

Of the total Christian population of 154,000 in Israel, about 80% are designated as Arabs, many of whom self-identify as Palestinian. Christians number 20% of the 13 million Palestinians . The total number of people worldwide (including diaspora) with Palestinian Christian heritage is about half a million. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palestinian_Christians

Has anyone else noticed that as a society, we’re shamed for wanting to sleep? Sleeping in is bad, naps are only okay if they’re 20 minutes, you cant be tired unless you’re a <insert career/lifestyle choice here>, so on and so forth.

I mean, I think we all need to spread our blankets out, cuddle a pillow, and go to sleep. Everyone needs more of it, fuck this “it’s not productive” nonsense. It’s okay to sleep, it’s okay to want to sleep. You’re not lazy because of it.

You’re not an ant or bee, you’re a large mammal. We’re supposed to conserve energy as much as possible. You aren’t lazy, you’re working as intended.

Reminder that this “no sleeping” thing isn’t a universal concept. In many cultures, taking a nap at lunchtime is considered the status quo.

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg spent her entire life fighting for justice for women, people of color, the LGBTQIA+ community, those with disabilities, and those who suffered religious persecution. Her life’s work was dedicated to helping those who need it most. 

There are many people on Tumblr expressing their grief, fear, sadness, anger, and pain tonight as we all process her death. Feel whatever you need to feel right now. Let it out. It is healthy. Reach out for a little help if you need it. That’s healthy, too. 

And then, when you’re ready, consider making a plan to honor the woman who fought for all of us with civic action. If you have spare time, consider using it to phone bank or text bank for an official who could use the volunteers. If you have spare cash, find a legal aid or bail fund to assist someone who needs it more. If you have the opportunity to help out anyone, seize it. If you’re eligible to vote, please vote. People like RBG are why you have the right to do so.

Lisa’s Fic Recs (October 2019)

This is the 20th “Lisa’s Fic Recs” post! Yay! Please tell me how you like this series so far and how I could improve!

I didn’t read much the last few weeks, since I still had to get back on track with my real life. But there are some new favourites down below.

WIPs I’m currently enjoying

Silent Shadow by @canimallow​. The very mysterious and strangely protective Fenrir is my highlight in this Fenrimione!

Something Out Of Nothing by Secre. It’s the sequel to I Did Nothing which answers a huge “What if?”, namely what if Minerva (and Severus) acted like responsible adults when Harry comes to Hogwarts for the first time.

The Reclamation of Black Magic by @shayalonnie​. A wonderful, unique take on Harry’s family background and so so so many strong ladies!

Completed new favourites

10 Things I Hate About Harry by @andgladly. So much fun! A wonderfully worded Drarry piece! It gives you highlights such as “I swear that boy’s lower lip must weigh as much as Madam Maxime’s left thigh because he can’t seem to keep his mouth closed when the slightest nibble of a question penetrates that six inch, lead-plated brain-box of his.”

A Nose That Can See by @colubrina. Another fun one! Slightly darker - it’s a Tomione and Tom is very much in character - but still so much to laugh and snort about! And fruits! And a “Big Book of World Domination”! And fluffy unicorns!

Mine by @jheeley​. A very interesting take on Fenrimione featuring a mysterious illness caused by Voldemort in his last moments…

Second Life by Lariope. And OMG! This Sevmione really blew me away. The start is not an ideal one for me (it’s a forced/manipulated into wedding) but after that it’s a wonderful story, very close to canon (which I always enjoy), and with a really special Phineas Nigellus Black!
