here are my thoughts, as a Time Nerd™️:
-the closest translation in my opinion is "i had to find a version of myself that exists in 2019 and put my mind into it"
-"suspended quantum state" is gibberish but is supposed to mean something is frozen in time
-therefore he is sort of body-swapping himself to a version of him that is frozen in time
-when he says the equations were wrong, i think he’s referring to the fact that he’s 13, meaning he probably wanted a 29 year-old version of himself that aged while he wasn’t there.
-HOWEVER as he left the timeline at 13, that’s the oldest possible version of himself that is in the timeline.
-i headcanon that TUA time travel works by splitting off into alternate universes every time a change in time is made. aka, the season 1 main timeline is an AU of an original, five-less timeline we do not get to see. and of course the 1960s and Sparrow Academy are both AUs. this is why it takes an immense amount of energy to time travel
-(now we can draw the conclusion that by jumping to 2019, five is creating an alternate universe) five jumps to a timeline where he hasn’t existed for 16 years. he left the timeline at 13 and the universe kept a copy of himself, sort of "remembering" the person that left. his copy didn’t age because he doesn’t exist in the timeline anymore.
here we can connect to the word quantum, because in quantum mechanics, particles can be entangled. when particles are entangled, they basically have an invisible, nontangible rope connecting them to another particle. one particle can either go left or right, and their partner particle will have to go the opposite way. there is no real method of communication that we have seen between both particles. if one is separated from the other, it will always be the opposite of the other particle no matter what.
so scientists said before they check the position of a particle, it is going both right and left at the same time, because it’s one of those but they don’t know which. schrodinger, a Cynic, was like "at the same time?! you dumbasses. i shake my head at you. this is like saying a cat is both alive and dead in the same box because we don’t know which it is yet. dumbasses. fuckers. moro-" and the scientists were like "hey that’s a good metaphor!”
five’s copy is both alive and dead at the same time. he doesn’t exist there, that’s true, but he also does, because he did once. the universe has gotten itself into a kerfuffle.
so, HERE’S WHAT IT ACTUALLY MEANS, TUMBLR OF LOW ATTENTION SPANS AND HATRED OF PARAGRAPHS:
When Five arrives in the timeline, the universe is like "Hey!! That’s perfect!! I used to have a 13 year old version of you, and now you’re back!! Super cool, I will just plonk you right back into your 13 year old body, from the second you left!!”
So— he didn’t actually die, he was sort of wiped from existence, but also remembered by the universe. This is probably because he rips a fucking hole into the fabric of it and falls right into another universe; I mean I think I would notice if someone took a chunk of me away and proceeded to monumentally fuck up how my friends and i looked with a bunch of their asshole coworkers, setting my foot on fire and stuff.
