darktail is so tragic to me. not in the boring “oh darktail was right all along!!! go kill your dad dude lmao!!!!! what a cool antihero revenge is awesome” way, i mean in a “oh man. this guy built his entire life and identity around revenge. he defines himself by his ability to do harm” way

i love depicting revenge as a tragic act of self destruction, and darktail’s a great example of that. he wants to tear down not just onestar but the clans in general and he does not care if this mission kills him or how many lives he ruins in the process

additionally, i view him as a sort of force of nature. he has a goal and he’s going to pursue it into oblivion. a hurricane that has come crashing down on the clans, a storm that onestar cannot outrun

Plumpaw, apprentice of Shadedclan 

Plumpaw fell into the background when it was revealed that Finchpaw would become the next medicine cat of the clan, her quiet disposition would lend easily to her slipping into obscurity in the clan, the other apprentices often much louder and bolder than she is. But there are advantages to being unseen, and she’s gotten awfully nervous around Saltfreckle recently. 

Plumpaw’s full name with be Plumfall. 

She was born in the same litter as Finchpaw, and is closest with the tom, she tries to steer clear of Gorsefeather and never really enjoys being around her father, but is often seen at her moms grave, talking to the air.

Woolpaw, apprentice of Shadedclan 

Woolpaw is a feisty young cat with dreams too big for their own paws. She dreams of being leader one day, she forges strong bonds with those who can keep up with her and tends to look down upon those who don’t. Her prideful and slightly chaotic nature has led her into trouble more times than she can even count by now. 

Born to Robindapple in a litter of one, she was spoiled and encouraged to become the best she can be, and how that her mother is occupied with another litter on the way, she’s feeling a little jealous of the lies not even yet born.

Rockthorn, queen of Shadedclan. 

Rockthorn is a very sweet molly with a very relaxed disposition, she tries her hardest to be a good cat and clanmate, and is very much in love with her family. Most think of her as a very ‘simple’ cat, but simple doesn’t mean stupid. 

She’s a family cat through and through, while she may have lost her immediate family in the beginning, she now adores her mate Saltfreckle and their kits, Wrenkit and Pearkit. She refuses to see that there may be anything wrong with her mate, or their perfect life.

Flarethicket, warrior of Shadedclan. 

Because of his bright pelt, Flarethicket had to work hard in order to learn to hunt properly, he has always been easily detectable and now takes that in stride . . . by being the biggest ass he can be. He chooses to lash out before a cat can critisize him first. He’s a model warrior in Mudstar’s eyes, though, aggressive, calculating and proud. Maybe there is a replacement in case Dapplemoss washes out . . . 

Flarethicket was found in as a kit in the territory near the Moon Cave, and in the end it was Mudstar herself who decided that he could stick around, and as her word is law, it was accepted throughout the clan and he was raised with one of the queens litters. However, he still struggles to find a home in the clan, a mix of anger at his birth parents, and a sense of alienation has left this tom lost with his path. Maybe if he just works harder, he’ll find his purpose.  He also heavily took out his frustrations on Beetlecry as an apprentice, mocking him for anything he could.

Beetlecry, warrior of Shadedclan 

Beetlecry has a calm disposition, he’s a rather good example of a gentle giant, being one of the biggest cats in the clans. Many are afraid to spar with him, and more are afraid to meet him in battle. Despite this, he’s known for playing with the kits when they’re bored, and for giving apprentices extra help when necessary. 

This tom was born large, he was the only kit born to his parents, and was quickly pushed into training a moon early, despite this being against the code. Because of this, he was often ridiculed by the more aggressive cats he’d grown up with, being younger than the other apprentices and becoming a warrior near the same time led to him retreating inwards, he doesn’t have many friends but can often be seen hunting alone along the Farmclan border.

Snowybush, warrior of Shadedclan 

Snowybush can come across as gruff, be it his deeper voice or intimidating stature, this tom can be seen as a beast in battle, but is truly just a people-person. He’s friendly and jovial around his clanmates, however cold he is to other clans, and finds joy in spending time with he’s a strong warrior and an upstanding clanmate, many often with he had been chosen for the position of deputy over Dapplemoss, but he doesn’t seem all that offended. 

Born in leafbare, his mother was unable to get to camp in time and he and his siblings were born under the shelter of a sapling, two of his siblings passed from the elements, he and his two other siblings survived long enough. However, those two ended up leaving Shadedclan for another life early on, he doesn’t know if they’re alive or not to this day.  He’s best friends with Willowbush, a much more meek cat than himself, however he finds her to be very sweet and a nice calm from his every day life. He considers her his honorary sister.

Willowbush, warrior of Shadedclan 

Willowbush is a quiet young molly, she’s chubby and soft inside and out. She easily cries when things don’t go right. Despite her fragile and near silent demeanor, she knows more than she lets on and is a very reliable informant for the clan, as many outside underestimate her for her meek nature. However, she seems to be more quiet than usual lately, no one is quite sure what’s wrong . . . 

Willowbush was never close with her family, but did mourn their later loss, her mother and father were victim to the war between Shadedclan and Fruitclan, along with her brother, however her sisters death is still under investigation, but there seems to be no real cause. The medicine cats are ready to let it go already, but Willow is adamant that something happened to her.  She’s also best friends with one tom, named Snowybush, his more extroverted personality helps her to break out of her shell some.

Saltfreckle, warrior of Shadedclan

A secondary antagonist to the story! Saltfreckle is a charming man, but lacks the warmth that cats like Sparrowbreath have, he is incredibly loyal to the main antagonist, and will die for his cause. He’s clever and witty, making him a dangerous foe but a pleasant conversationalist. 

Saltfreckle is mates with the queen, Rockthorn and together they have two daughters, Wrenkit and Pearkit, he was born near the end of the war and holds a great hatred for Fruitclan because of one of their warriors taking the lives of his mothers.

Nightleaf, warrior of Shadedclan 

Nightleaf is a heavy hitter of the clan, even if they prefer to stick closer to their friends than the fights. Nightleaf, often called “Nightie” is a strong hunter and easily flustered, they have a constant crush on Sparrowbreath and envies his confidence greatly. Their meek nature won’t matter, however, if you threaten their friends, as they will not be afraid to fight back. Just, don’t expect them to stand up for themself as easily. 

Nightleaf was born at moonhigh on the night of a gathering, their mother died from complications shortly afterwards and they grew up being raised by another queen who they now consider to be their adoptive mother. They had a sister but she was killed in one of the many fights between Shadedclan and Fruitclan.

Sparrowbreath, Warrior of Shadedclan 

Sparrowbreath is a charming tom with a silver-tongue, he’s known for his diplomacy but he often uses it to simply flirt whenever he wants. He is very proud of his chin fur and how well he keeps his pelt. Despite his vanity, he’s a decent enough warrior to keep around, after all in Shadedclan only the best survive. 

Sparrowbreath was born to a single molly named Juniperfoot, she always assured him that his father was a brave warrior who died just a moon before his birth, however later in life he’d discover that really, his father ran away when faced with the responsibility of parenting. Sparrowbreath, choosing to swallow this news and push it down pushed forward.  However after his many exploits, history may be repeating itself . . .

Finchpaw, Medicine cat apprentice of Shadedclan

Finchpaw is a pretty nervous tom, often not fitting into the clan he will throw himself into his duties as an apprentice, lacking any proper socialization with his fellow apprentices has left him feeling awkward and desperate to connect with anyone else. His destiny as a healer in a clan always heading towards war is intimidating to the young tomcat, and he can only hope he lives up to the expectations set upon him. 

Finchpaw’s full name will be Finchspirit. 

Finchpaw was born in the same litter as Plumpaw, his sister who is training to become a warrior, she’s the only cat he really feels connected too and comfortable with. He’s half brothers with his mentor Gorsefeather too! His father is Crowmask and his mother was a kind molly who perished in the war.

Gorsefeather, medicine cat of Shadedclan 

Gorsefeather hates his job and lets it show, he was ordered to be a medicine cat by his mentor when he had shown a lot of promise, even if he would have rather been a warrior. Instead of settling and ‘growing soft’ as he often says, he took his dream of being a warrior and his near encyclopedic knowledge of herbs and became something of a battle medic. He will rush into the fight to drag cats out of harms way if they’re near death, and occasionally will deal some damage himself. 

Born to the warriors Crowmask and Heatherfur, he had two siblings, but lost both of them over time, his oldest sibling to the war, and his youngest to white-cough later in life. His mentor, Orchidpool, found that his polydactyly was just assurance from Starclan that this tom was destined for being a medicine cat.

Dapplemoss, deputy of Shadedclan. 

Dapplemoss is known to balance Mudstar’s aggressive attitude, she is much more relaxed and focused on the morale of the clan outside of battles, while Mudstar tends to only speak publicly for ceremonies and rallying for wars. Dapplemoss is a popular deputy, but there’s always the question of whether or not she’ll be strong enough to lead Shadedclan once Mudstar loses her last life. 

Born to the warriors Littlebelly and Goldeneye just a moon into the war, she lost both of her parents once she entered into apprenticeship. Having been the only kit born to her parents she’s often struggled with finding a family, and has commitment issues, pushing cats she may love away in fear that she may lose more cats.
