Being a lesbian can feel very lonely. I feel it now in my 30s more than ever, when my bi women friends date exclusively men, and my other afab friends find their peace and happiness in transitioning or otherwise exploring gender identity.
Yet I'm here, simply existing as a homosexual woman, equally firm in being attracted to only my own sex and being a woman.
I struggle, but I also believe I'm not alone, which makes me speak out. We don't have to be afraid. We don't have to be invisible.
I find power in simply existing, power in how unchangable I am, power in the truth of 'born this way', power in 'this is what a woman looks like', power in lesbian feminism, and power in simply honouring myself as I go on being who I am.
Happy Pride month to every lesbian woman who wants to feel seen, who needed this, and who needed a little encouragement. Let's raise our voices and our flags for our sisters who bear the same loneliness.
