omg don’t piss me off. when your child is unable to effectively communicate and has self injurious behavior and will need lifelong 24/7 care the problem is not you “wanting them to act neurotypical”
is this somewhat applicable to some parents of autistic kids? sure, i guess. but the framing of the issue once again excludes people for whom autism is a serious disability as well as their families
im serious, you might as well say, oh, you’re upset that your child with a terminal illness is suffering pain and won’t live very long? let’s reframe this! maybe the problem is the value you’re placing on things like “being alive” and “not being in pain”
not that trying to change your mindset is never a good way to deal with unchangeable circumstances, but this is straight up gaslighting mothers of disabled children
