forgottenluck:
The heated air turned malevolent, red staining those golden orbs to give off a sense of an almost sunset. So she claimed he had minutes? He wouldn’t need more than two. It was time to show this child who she was dealing with.
“Tricks, huh? Here’s a bit of advice for you, child.”
The fox vanished from his spot in front of her, leaving nothing more than the sound of a crackling laugh as her only warning.
“I’d start believing if I were you.”
The words were whispered right into her ear, from behind. And just as she’s turning, a wave of power pushes her forward, away from the man she was so intent on killing. She’d be bumped and bruised, but not harmed too terribly. Where she stood, the fox now held ground, bent down to aid his fallen Monk.
“Calm down….this will hurt, but it will save your life.” his words, despite themselves being harsh, held a soft tone…something completely different than the tone he’d used with the assassin. He worked quickly, fire flying from his fingertips as he worked to cauterize the wound, the monk’s pained yells echoing through the shrine.
Once he was done he stood, leveling the woman with a glare that could have held the very fires of hell.
“The man does not smell of death, neither of you do. Besides, I need him alive, thank you very much. Monks are hard to come by these days. As for my tricks? Illusions come naturally to me. You were talking to a false me from the moment I stepped into your view. I gave you an option of listening to reason, but you did not. Now…I wonder what I shall do with you….”
If she’d begun to believe, his statement settled her mind down. How many countless lie dead at her hands? It was useless to hazard a guess. Enough games. This monk needs to die, and she needs his head. Her blade, in her right hand, lowered to her side. Her eyes didn’t stray from the injured one’s head. “You won’t be doing anything with me.” As the tip touched the ground, her left hand grabbed at the pistol on her lower back, firing as she drew. A trail of bullets lead toward the pair of men, each trailing at her target’s head. She had extraordinary aim, but the succession of shots should serve to disorient the man protecting the monk.
Brow furrowing, she rushes forward. Blade poised above her head and ready to slash downward at an angle. Either would do, though her target now is the “god” that’s become an obstacle. Crimson drops are flung into the air, tracing the light glinting off of sharpened steel as she strikes at his shoulder.
forgottenluck:
As soon as the drops of the monk’s blood hit the ground, the very air of the room changed. Heat reigned supreme, and the man’s golden eyes narrowed dangerously.
Illusions cast to the side, ears plain to see and five tails splayed out angrily behind him. Yet his body still retained a humanoid shape. This was her final warning. And yet, she ignored it.
He raised a hand. A single hand, and in front of him appeared a large fireball that split into smaller ones, rushing to surround her. She’d be able to feel their heat, but they wouldn’t burn her. Not yet. No, their target was her sword. Just being in the vicinity, her blade began to heat, metal burning into her skin.
He was attempting to disarm her, it was against his core to harm her….though he would do so if so needed.
“I will tell you once more, abandon your prey or face my wrath. You have already broken and tainted this ground with blood, do not taint it more by defying a God.”
Refusing to relinquish her blade, her teeth grind together. Her mind raced, trying to piece together how one would pull off such an illusion. Scoffing, she tosses his warning aside. “I’ve never believed in Gods. I’m not about to start just because of a few tricks...clever as they may be.” Even as the heat sears her hands, and draw blood from her palms.
Aside from a furrowed brow, and clenched jaw, she gives no indication of pain. This is nothing compared to her punishment if she returned without her target’s head. Her own red essence leaks down the handle, dripping to the ground at her feet. Pivoting on her heels, she slides her blade through the monk’s thigh and turns back toward the supposed deity.
As the pious coward’s blood squeezes through his gripping fingers, she points the end of her katana back at the man in front of her. “The one you’re defending is dying now. His femoral artery has been severed. He has minutes. You can save him, if you know what to do...and if you get through me, first.”
forgottenluck:
“That is enough!”
The words are laced with power, with force, and they echo through the chamber with a resounding chime. Yet oddly enough, they didn’t come from the door of the main hall, where anyone who wanted to enter the room had to come from. No, instead, they came from the front…from the alters themselves.
From the alters, a figure stepped out, seeming to appear out of nowhere. He was clad in the old wear, a worn Haori, mismatched sleeves adorning his arms and a golden sash around his middle….one side darker than the other. His face was hardened framed by black strands of hair, but his eyes….those were a different story. They were golden….almost glowing.
No, they were definitely glowing.
“I care not for what business you have with the monk, but blood is not to be shed here. If you insist on carrying out your deed within these halls, you will have to do so through me. And that is a battle you cannot win.”
Whoever this was, he’d issued a challenge. She has never been one to back down. Something about the monk’s sudden calm is concerning, but she doesn’t much care. She doesn’t want the coward running. Turning to face the stranger, she slides her blade across the back of the monk’s knee and drops his hair. She goes as far as to lift the blood specked blade in front of her face, making eye contact as she does.
Though the crimson stains are stuck to her blade, and the monk’s clothing, she’s already broken this man’s stipulation. As she speaks, her blade turns toward the one who had intruded on her job. “I don’t care what tricks you pull. If you’ve got the balls for it, do something. Otherwise, take your leave or wait and join this fool.”
@forgottenluck || Desecration
These Shinto monks and their practices were strange. This one had apparently taken up a pilgrimage to the oldest forgotten gods. She found him, mid-prayer, muttering in a dialect so archaic she hardly understood a word of it. She wouldn’t even bother, but he’d done something to piss off a Yakuza boss. He’d avoided them for too long, so she was called in. He’d been right where her intel said he’d be.
He had nowhere to run when she’d issued her challenge. The coward had chosen to die without a fight. Instead, asking that she not spill blood on the floor of the sacred place. She wasn’t one to oblige. In one hand, his hair is viciously pulled. The other holds her blade, and his head is leaned over the water one would use to cleanse themselves before prayer. His sniveling is unbecoming. “Oh, shut your mouth and stop bitching. I don’t let cowards die quickly...so you’ll want to save your energy.” Unless something is done soon, this monk would die and, if there’s any merit at all to their beliefs, his blood would taint this water, and the ground it came from.
jourdevanille:
sᴜɴsʜɪɴᴇ • “…sort of?” she squeaked out the answer. saying it that way didn’t make it sound good at all, though she’d like to think she’d done the right thing – a good thing. it made her wonder if she should have even bothered explaining to this woman why she’d done what she’d done, if she should have just given her water and left.
“no…i know that,” she answered in a mumble, tucking a stray curl behind her ear. a small nod tugged on her chin as the woman took another drink – she’d need to stay hydrated in the heat if she didn’t want to pass out. but the would-be assassin’s next words left her humming softly, eyebrows raised in silent inquiry.
“what…do you mean, ‘what comes after’?”
Shouldn’t that have been obvious? “Do you really need me to spell it out?” Maybe not, but did she really need it spelled out? Slumping back, Eihi’s gaze falls on the ground. Maybe for some this was just as simple as it seemed. Then again, those people aren’t in the position these two find themselves in. If it were as easy as sharing water with a stranger, she’d be getting paid right now.
“I mean that you just saved my life. That’s where this gets complicated. I was hired to kill you. A very particular group is going to be pissed when they find out. They’ll send someone after you again. Seeing as it’s your life, it seems fair to me that you choose what be done next.”
On that note, if there’s still anyone following me who might like to rp with Eihi >.> like this for a starter

//Eihi. Girl we need to be around more.
“I’m always around, you’re the one who sucks at remembering I exist.”
//That hurts.
“Well, you keep saying you’ll set aside some time for me and then you run off with your little hero again.”
//He’s good people, Eihi.
“He’s a narcissistic little twerp that could use a good ass kicking.”
//...also, yes.
“Here’s what you’re going to do. You’re going to look hard at the presentation you give me, and revamp it so it’s as hard to resist as he is.”
//...yes. Yes, I am.
langenoir:
⚡ L’ANGE NOIR— a persistent shake of her head, even as claire moved closer to peer around at the child, ensure that he was all right and not distressed in any way. a few silly faces and soft murmurs to ensure his state of mind, and she looked back around to eihi — back to a deadpan expression. it seemed her tea had gone forgotten, for the time being, not that she couldn’t finish it later.
❝ i can appreciate you wanting to keep the kid safe. i really can. but I AM NOT WATCHING HIM FOR YOU. end of story. no discussion. i can tolerate children, yes. i’m nicer to them than i am adults, sure. but i am not ready to care for a child on my own. not for any amount of time.❞ a brief shrug, and she made her way deeper into the kitchen, tugging open a cupboard.
❝ but if you would rather not watch him at your place, serah made me keep paper, coloring books, and crayons stocked for whenever i end up with a niece or nephew. not that i’m sure why it had to be now. she’s obviously not going to SURPRISE me with a child of hers.❞ setting the supplies on the kitchen table, she tugged her phone out of her pocket. she’d meant to meet hope while he was on his lunch break. now she might not even make it late.
Pursing her lips, she nods. Already knowing what she’s going to do about this. Bouncing the boy twice in her arms, she nearly throws him at the former goddess. Sighing as tiny arms wrap around the other woman’s neck, with a little whine from the child, who shoves his nose into the crook of the new woman’s neck. “-Thank you so much, I’ll pay you back for it I promise.”
“I’ll only be gone a day at the most, he likes pumpkin tea, and seems to have some weird thing about the color yellow. I know what you want to say, I owe you lots for it.” She spoke quickly, making her way out of the door before another rejection could be spoken. If Light followed her, she’d make her follow her to the plane. Taking a child to an assassination is out of the question. So is dropping a job.
sᴜɴsʜɪɴᴇ • “it’s not exactly a fact that’s difficult to remember.”
her hands lay folded in her lap, fingers fidgeting with each other and her bracelets. anything to get her nerves out quietly. she hadn’t expected the assassin’s appearance nor had she exactly expected her to pass out so easily – weren’t professional assassins the kind of people who prepared for the environment they’d be in? though, maybe she should be thankful she hadn’t been. it was likely the only reason she was still breathing.
and maybe she’d been in the wrong to help her – maybe old habits just died hard. so a small shrug answered the second question after a few, long moments of silence, her gaze on a sparkling stone in the dirt and her words coming slowly, carefully. “i’m not the kind of person to just leave someone to die. especially not if i can help….judging by what you first called me…i’m assuming you remember…before this. well…a long time before i was the saint…i did horrible things and a lot of people died because of me.” her head shook a bit, “i don’t want that to happen again.”
“You did it...-” The logic hadn’t made sense. Sure, someone with a soft heart may not be able to forgive themselves for letting someone they think is innocent die. This was different, though. She’d been about to take her life, not sell her something.
“-Out of some...misplaced feeling of obligation? I wasn’t about to ask you if you wanted to sign something, I was about to cut your throat. Not...to emphasize the obvious, though.” Frustrated, she bites her lip. She’s indebted now, and to someone who would be her target. With an agitated look, she takes another sip of water before speaking in a sigh. “I...owe you for this. Obviously, that means I’m not going to follow through but...what comes after is up to you.”
⟪ STARSEEKER ⟫ ❝she ALSO knows i can handle myself.❞ the trace of contempt in her tone should have been obvious annoyance, but who knew if this … assassin could tell such things — at least late at night. once, serah would have happily accepted the role of “defenseless damsel,” but that was before her travels with noel. now she was confident she could hold her own, even IF mog and magic had been out of her reach since the end of the old world.
❝i’m not some stupid kid! you’re saying that to me like i don’t know it. that doesn’t mean you have to give them what they want. put your foot down. do something else. i’m sure you’d be GREAT at another line of work, like … personal training or something.❞
“You are exactly some stupid kid, especially for coming here” Her chair squeals as she shifts her weight, finding it necessary to signal her dog to stay put. “I don’t care how good you are in a fight, if I hadn’t known who you were you’d have been shot before I opened the door. That is how I deal with unwanted guests. Only my targets are allowed the chance to fight for their lives.”
In a quick moment, she moves closer. One finger pressed tight against Serah’s throat. “I do what I do because it’s what I’m best at. I spent decades in the old world, training and studying for this. I did what I could to stay alive, and I’ll continue that here.” Giving a sharp huff, she nearly flopped back into her seat. One hand sliding through her hair, and the other tapping her cup. “Maybe I would be good at something else, but it’s what I’m good at. It’s what I enjoy...don’t give me some look, either. No one’s innocent, not anymore. We’ve all done something to someone that means we deserve it.”
⚡ L’ANGE NOIR— stubbornness was a game claire played well; she’d butted heads with snow well enough after all. ❝ absolutely not.❞ shaking her head, her attention turned back to the drink she’d started on the counter. an attempt at the kind of milk tea one could buy in a store or cafe, only made to save a quick buck or seven. though a quick sip had her scowling and reaching for the plain tea kept nearby. too sweet.
❝ if you wanna be a responsible adult, FIND THE KID’S PARENT OR PARENTS. i’m not watching some child you can’t be bothered to return while you do … well, you know what.❞ even she had a soft spot for children, somewhat, though it wasn’t nearly as life-altering as eihi’s apparent favor for them. the assassin seemed to turn into a whole other person in the presence of tiny humans. how very ODD…
Obstinate bitch. She turns to make sure the child can’t see her brow furrow in frustration. Nearly growling, she speaks through clenched teeth. “I’ll owe you for it. If I take the time now I’ll miss my- appointment. I might not get another chance, and as soon as I’m done I’ll find his parents. I can have someone working on it by the time the plane leaves.”
She detested being in debt. Even if it ended up being a favor, waiting around for someone to cash in on something she owes them had always been an aggravating idea. It would be worth it, though. To both make her appointment, and know that the child wouldn’t be harmed. “I can’t just drop him off somewhere, the police will dig into me to see if I kidnapped him and I won’t just leave him somewhere to be found. I...couldn’t sleep at night, if I did.”
⚡ L’ANGE NOIR— ❝ now what the HELL is that supposed to mean?❞ her indignant streak sparked, claire scowled at the assassin and gave an annoyed scoff. while logic claimed she meant nothing ill, her old temper was resurfacing with the rest of what she’d left aside. ❝ fine, ignore my damn apologies.
❝ i mean it’s not like i NEVER used to apologize, or anything.❞
“It means that you apologize too often, and for things you shouldn’t apologize for. My expectations of you are outmatched by your own, if we’re going to have you ready for anything you can’t go apologizing for every little bad feeling you get.”, using her foot, she pulls out a seat, holding a steady hand out to help Claire sit. She’d state an order for coffee and a tea menu almost dismissively before sitting down.
