Tuesday is Trans Day of Visibility
That’s right! People will be posting their selfies and other stuff with various hashtags (I haven’t seen a 100% confirmed one) - #tdov #transdayofvisibility #trans day of visibility #transtakeover #trans visibility #trans pride
Right now, the only day dedicated to the trans community that people really know about is the Day of Remembrance, which is a great day, but it’s purpose is to mourn the dead. This is a day to celebrate being alive, which we desperately need.
There are people planning to boycott the day because they say it’s copying BlackOut, but please don’t do this. Trans Day of Visibility has been a recognised day in many countries since 2009, yet so many people don’t know about it yet. It hasn’t come out of nowhere and it’s not intended to take away from any other group. Even if it’s the same concept, there is nothing wrong with letting another oppressed community shine and let the world know that we exist.
If you are trans
This is your day. Whether you are a trans man, trans woman, agender, bigender, third gender, genderfluid, neutrois, or just anything other than cis, this is your day. Get involved. Post a selfie. Share your story. Be visible.
If you are not trans
Also get involved. Today is a day to support and listen to the trans community. Reblog our selfies. Read our stories. Show your love for a community that often has a hard time being visible. This is a great opportunity to learn and to admire some beautiful people.
