Hi :), serious question. Do you have a crush on David or just adore him as a director? I've been fangirling over him since 2011, but these days there are hardly any people on Tumblr who seem infatuated with him. It used to be pretty crazy and fun in early post-TSN/TGWTDT days. Everybody got old/er, moved on and David's tag is only getting more and more boring.

hey! no i don’t have a crush on him haha, i just love and admire his work, so much so that his career has become one of my main special interests (i say his career because i mean his tv shows/music videos/commercials as well as his films). it is sad that his tag is so empty and boring most of the time, even i used to post in it like weekly and just don’t anymore. hopefully when his new projects come out it makes a resurgence.

Some "The Social Network II" speculation incoming. Feels like a big drama happening behind the scenes. The whole thing genuinely looks like a fever dream. First, Fincher's non-involvement and the way Jesse Eisenberg's refusal to come back is phrased (it's a no, because Fincher is not directing). Like putting it like this makes it sound like Sorkin is not as good of a director AND this project needs Fincher to make it worth doing. His refusal to come back kind of comes out of nowhere, since Jesse was pretty positive about doing the sequel until very recently (like a few months ago recently). Sounds like there is some sort of beef between Fincher and Sorkin to me. If creative parents of the project are fighting, children end up being forced to choose, and Jesse chose Fincher (of course he did, first of all, this man launched his career and hand-picked him out of the entire young Hollywood for this role, AND Fincher is one of the best directors out there. Seriously, the way Jesse talks about Fincher like some sort of modern god of cinema. Not surprising that he backed out the moment he found out Fincher is not involved.) Also, this whole Jeremy Strong casting thing is a weird choice because surely there are other actors in Hollywood who have some physical resemblance with Z*ckerberg. This choice is strange until you remember that Jeremy Strong is friends with Sorkin, and if you think about it as a last minute choice after Jesse backed out, it make sense. What is weird, is why this whole thing was not planned and discussed in advance? Surely Sorkin knows how iconic the first movie is, enough to not call the second movie a sequel even though it has nothing tying it to the original, besides the topic of facebook. If nothing connects the original and the new one, then calling it a sequel sounds like you are trying to ride the wave of previous installment success to create hype, while also not inviting the person (Fincher) who is majorly responsible for the said success. This makes it look like Sorkin did not expect Jesse to say no, so he didn't have a plan B, hence calling the film the sequel (makes sense if he thought the main guy from the original film will show up.) Anyway, this whole situation does not look good, and comes off pretty unpleasant. This whole mess could have been avoided if Sorkin sorted out whatever creative differences he had with Fincher BEFORE setting to make this film. Now the "sequel" lost the majority of ingredients of the recipe for its original's success and I don't think it should have been made at all, or at least not introduced as a sequel. It could have easily been a separate totally unrelated movie about another facebook scandal. There was no need to tie it to "The Social Network" at all.

LITERALLY!! this casting is so beyond bizarre. the more that comes out about this movie the more embarrassing it gets for Sorkin in a way. he seems to be chasing the dragon of the social network all of the time, i mean ‘the trial of the chicago seven’ felt like him trying to stylistically cosplay as fincher. JUST LET IT GO BRO!! fincher and his crew MADE THAT FILM WHAT IT WAS!! yes sorkins dialogue is notoriously amazing but why do you think ‘the social network’ has made such a large impact on the cultural zeitgeist and not ‘mollys game’ or ‘steve jobs’?? the fucking cast and crew of the first movie. particularly eisenbergs performance like CAREER DEFINING PERFORMANCE.

i’m not saying this ‘sequel’ will be awful or that these actors are bad or that even sorkin is a bad director, he’s fine, but i’m not hopeful.

Okay, babbling about the TSN II announcement. Just me yapping

They had me at "Aaron Sorkin writes" and immediately half-lost me at "Aaron Sorkin directs". I bet it's because Fincher is working on the Tarantino film but like, Sorkin is at best an okay director. There's talks of a "new cast" which greatly worries me because this movie (The Social Network II) is not a TSN movie without Mark Zuckerberg. Aka without Jesse Eisenberg — WHO HAS ALREADY AGREED TO DO A SEQUEL — but also, that leads me to the fact this movie will supposedly be about The Facebook Files, and possibly January 6th (Facebook's involvement at least)? Both of which do not involve Eduardo Saverin (Andrew Garfield) which... Makes me a bit worried in a way?

A massive part of TSN was Eduardo and Mark's relationship, and part of what made it so charming and drew you in. If this movie is taking place in 2020-2021, there's going to be no Eduardo. Unless Sorkin pulls some creative liberty strings like the first movie. Except in the first movie, they were mostly realistic creative liberties and had no massive impact on how the story was presented (minus the 10%/3% thing but you know.)

But with this, there is no way to implement Eduardo without rewriting things. I'm sure it can be pulled off without him, but I'm just worried about the dynamics of the movie I think. Also, sequels rarely meet expectations with their predecessors. I do not expect this movie to meet the bar that the first movie met, but there's so many factors going into this that just make me worried? Like, I'm going to watch it and love it regardless but there's so much building on this. It's going to be a massive hit-or-miss

yeah probably couldn’t have said it better myself. the reason the social network is such a timeless film is because it’s not really about facebook. it’s about mark and edwardo’s relationship. it’s an amazing script pulled off by an amazing actors under the direction of a generational director.

you won’t have that without fincher, his collaborators like Cronenweth, Reznor & Ross, Wall & Baxter etc etc.
