Summary:
“Oh, are you closed?” There is an odd note to the newcomer’s voice, Kara realizes. A faint accent, foreign, that no amount of schooling can erase. Kara cannot place it. “If you’re closed, I can-” The woman trails off, tilts her head to the door. It’s gotten so dark out that the street is barely visible.
Kara’s brain misfires. It’s stuck on the way fricatives seem to catch against the woman’s lips. She wants to hear her speak some more, just to try and figure out what other language that so-kissable mouth does shape around. Again and again, and it won’t matter if all of her guesses will turn out to be wrong as long as that soft lilt is washing over her.
She realizes she’s yet to answer the question and flushes bright red.
“I’m totally open. I mean… the store. The store is open. Yeah.”
