A dozen messages dinged onto EXE's comm as soon as h3 entered the overworld. Most of them were from XD; the latest one was the one that caught h1s eye most.

DreamXD whispered to you: where are You. emergency. meet Me at My realm or give Me coords in Yours.

EXE raised h1s eyebrows. Emergency, huh.

You whispered to DreamXD: ill meet you in yours i guess lol

His thumbs felt numb as he typed. He couldn't make out more than just a few words. Despite it, he knew exactly where to go.

He dragged himself to the cave, one foot after the other. His back felt heavy, his vision kept going blurry. But he made it, eventually, collapsing outside and leaning into the rockface.

What if they aren't here? he thought. What if I did all of this for nothing?

He did do all of this for nothing, because he was about to die. He knew it. His breath came in hitched gasps, his hands felt light, his eyes squeezed. Golden ichor stained his robes and skin. The halo around his head kept drooping and at this point he didn't have the strength to push it back up. With it over his eyes he should be able to access all knowledge, but his head panged too loudly.

They'll come back here eventually. We always do. This is our spot. Her spot. And I know they will find me.

He's finding it hard to keep his eyes closed.

XD didn't need more than a few words to send the god's on their way. Chasing after their lover, lead by a deep worry and care for his well being. Whatever was happening, they could figure it out together.

Despite this, HD was the first to arrive at the scene. Stumbling through the trees and into the clearing just before the cave. There was a smeared trail of gold, leading right to her treasure. A spike of panic filled her chest, bursting out with a soft gasp. Hands covered their mouths to contain it,before HDs expression steeled and they closed the distance between them.

"XD! My sun,my love! What happened?! Oh, gods!"

HDs hands hovered over his body, scared to touch, nauseous at the sight of so much ichor. He hardly looked alive. Finally, the god took his hands, attempting to prop him up better before searching through an invisible inventory. In a flash, he was pulling out ambrosia and bandages, bringing the healing food towards XDs lips and pressing it against them.

"XD, you need to eat this, we can bandage you and stop this bleeding, just stay awake for me. Please,please, stay awake!"

EXE's stomach felt like rocks.

H3 watched HD hold XD's face--the poor guy didn't even have the strength to lift his head. His mask kept falling, the enchantment lagging and glitching. EXE reached forward to rip it off.

"Speak to us, buddy." EXE gently slapped the side of XD's face. "Wake up. C'mon. C'mon."

Mumbled words, nothing coherent. EXE, panicked, glanced at HD.

"'m awake." XD's hand raised slowly, delicately, to hold onto HD. "My.. back. It's where she got me."

EXE's stomach dropped all the way to h1s shoes. She.

If XD looked like this.. what did "she" look like?

His hand on HDs made the god's body sag in relief. Then she gripped him tight, scowling.

"Oh you are the universes fool."

Her hands gathered him closer, placing kisses along his cheek bones, not minding any blood that might smear. HD went ahead and lifted him up further, supported against her chest as she gently tugged EXE to behind XD.

"Here, you wipe his wounds, I'll hand you bandages and ambrosia. How bad is it? What did She do? Why did you two fight?!"

There was a bitter anger burning in their stomach. The sight of their husband so badly hurt at the hands of That Goddess made their blood boil.

They could hardly even start to care or wonder about Her. Or the consequences of this fight. Sure, concern grew in the back of his mind, but it wasn't what was important right now.

XD was delirious as he stared up into HD's face, a gentle smile lighting him up. "You are... are my universe. Am I your, your fool?"

He pictured her body, crumpled at the base of her statue. Where she should be. And his eyes drifted shut peacefully. Maybe this was a good death, yes, surrounded by his lovers and with the knowledge that she was put away not for good, but for a while, and a while was enough to let the world heal. And him? He would be back. This was his rest, much needed, much sought for. His time.

And then EXE was smacking him again.

"Sorry," h3 mumbled. "You were falling asleep, I--I panicked."

XD's hand blindly sought for EXE, missed, and gave up. "I fought her for you. For you." Tears burned at his face. "All that I do, it is... is for those I love..."

"Sentimental dickhead," EXE cursed. "Idiot. Idiot, idiot, idiot."

"She tried to rip out my wings," XD whispered. He couldn't feel them on his back; maybe she succeeded. "She.. oh, oh dear." He leaned into HD. "Goodnight."

EXE leaned XD forward slightly, wiped at his back. The cloth felt cool against XD's burning skin. "Stay awake, dipshit. Stay the fuck awake."

Tears burned in the god's eyes when their lover looked at them like that.

"You are my fool. You are."

None of this changed the fact that HD was panicking on the inside. The gold smeared across all their hands now was a testament to that.

"You had better stay awake. You better. Or else I'm never forgiving you!"

The fear of holding him, and in turn making him really fall asleep, had HDs skin crawling. Prickly and cold as he tried to keep XD awake. Her fingers smoothed over cuts and bruises, cleaning off what she could of the ichor.

His back looked terrible. His wings were a mess.

"XD, can you stay awake for me? How about we talk! I can talk. We could talk for a millenia. Wouldn't that be nice, my love?"

The smile on XD's face made EXE feel sick.

"I could talk to you forever," XD whispered, his eyes welling up. "You.. are my forever."

"Keep him awake," EXE muttered as he rapidly wrapped bandages around XD's wings. "Just gotta stay awake pal..."

XD leaned his head back, delirious and now sobbing. "It was... for you, for you. And--And Drista. And Lani. I love you, you, love... all of you..." His eyes closed for a second too long and EXE shook his entire body, rocking XD back into life. "Sorry. Sorry..."

The wounds were horrible. EXE was trying not to think too hard about how the fight must've gone, or what he had said, or what she had said. This had been building up for a while, he knew, he knew that it was coming--but to come so quietly? And then so loud?

"I'll never let her hurt you," XD vowed, very seriously, concentrating on HD's face. "She'll, she'll never--never speak to you like that... again."

"Idiot," EXE growled, even as he bit a bandage to tear it apart and wrap it where the ichor wouldn't stop flowing. "Motherfucking idiot."
