Mei sighs softly as she comes up to Asami's place. It had been a very long while since she had seen the nonbender, having taken off in order to get Xen Fu to follow. The girl hesitates before knocking a few times, her mind racing as she waited.

The door opens, revealing Mako and Bolin’s grandma. “Oh my, you appear to be a nice girl. You must be looking for Asami. She lives in the city now, she has an apartment there”, she says. “You might find her where the city is being expanded.”

“I was talking to myself.” Mei was looking at the table. “Please be honest with me. Don’t lie just to protect my feelings.” She says and looks to her. “Do you love Korra too? Like you love me?”

“No. I don’t. I thought I did, and I was so confused. I’m so sorry for the stress I caused you”, she says, starting to move her arms in gesture, wincing in pain as she moves the one in the sling. “I shouldn’t have pushed it on you. Or even thought about it at all.”

The firebender looks down, hating how Asami winced cause of her arm. “I love you Asami..you do anything for love.” Mei mumbles and then stands. “I...I just...i hurt hearing how everyone thought I was dead...without a fight?”

Mei stops outside of Asami’s apartment, looking at the door. She looks down and just sits outside, closing her eyes. The firebender hated admitting how much it hurt her to find out that Korra and Asami slept together when she was gone. But what did she expect? She hadn’t been there.

Asami’s stomach knots with guilt, hating what she’d done. She starts to regret telling Mei, but decides that would’ve been far worse. She regrets having slept with Korra, yet she also doesn’t. She isn’t sure what she would’ve done without Korra, as Mei had left. She couldn’t think about what her life would be now. Unmotivated nothing, or overworked nothing. Still, she realizes she should not have made the decision in the first place.

She eventually goes into the apartment, not noticing Asami. The firebender goes into the kitchen and sits at the table as her thoughts race around her head. “You did this to yourself.” Mei mumbles.

Everyone came to the conclusion that I was dead and yet, the one person who could talk to spirits didn’t even try to see if she could talk to me?” Anger was beginning to take over as she kept talking.

The firebender looks down and just holds herself. It bothered her more that everyone thought she had died. She understood that she should’ve left a note, but they all knew she was capable of handling herself, that she wouldn’t have been taken down so easily. It drained her when each one of her friends told her they had thought she wasn’t alive. 

The next day, Mei went to the fountain where she first met Asami, sitting there and staring at the water. Her body tenses when she sees Korra out of the corner of her eyes, standing up quickly to leave.

The firebender was sitting by the door, some stray tears falling. Mei looks away as the door opens. “I’m fines…” She mumbles as some of the alcohol begins to ware off. She may have been drunk while saying what she said, but she did mean it. “You still have…a guest.”

“No, you need the water. You’ll hate me even more in the morning if you don’t drink it”, she says, closing it behind her and putting the cup in Mei’s hand. “She’s sleeping on the couch if you need to talk to her. She also had something to do in the city so I just let her stay the night.”

“I don’t need to talk to her.” Mei snaps and looks at the cup, frowning slightly. She just sits it down and then hugs her knees. “You have work tomorrow...you should get some rest.”
