It's always Frodo/Bilbo parallels, but what about Pippin? I mean, my boy Bilbo is also half a Took 😭 That's why he kinda was able to go on adventure in a first place. And the fact that they both faced some traumatic-king-shit???? Smol hobbit soldiers awww..... *Sobs*
the queen herself is back :')
the war of the rohirrim film is actually looking really good!
I'm reading the lord of the rings and I'm once again amazed at how... good most characters are. Like, they are genuinely good people. They are a bunch of kindhearted, gracious, caring people, coming together under adverse circumstances and trying to figure things out and find a solution and support each other through it all. Like Frodo and Sam meet Faramir and Faramir is a bit suspicious at first and kind of implies Frodo may be a spy, and then when he hears his story and he's like Frodo, I pressed you so hard at first. Forgive me! It was unwise in such an hour and place. And this blows.my.mind. He wasn't even particularly mean or threatening to him in the beginning, he's just such a kind, considerate man, recognizing the kindness and honesty of another man. And they're all like that. Even Gollum starts slowly changing (for a short while) when he encounters Frodo because that's the thing about kindness and humility and grace, they are contagious. They transform people, even a creature like Gollum cannot be immune to that. Like, you may consider all this simple and basic and I get it but, hear me out. It is quite rare to see that in modern media and it is also pretty difficult to pull off in a way that is not corny and simplistic. It is mind blowing that you actually don't have to present the entire palette of human cruelty and vice in order to tell a compelling story, contrary to popular belief. Lotr does the exact opposite, and it is just beautiful and it warms my heart. Especially taking into consideration tolkien's pretty grim growing-up experience, him being a double orphan without a home, raised between an orphanage and a priest and having no family apart from his brother and then the war and then he almost dies and then he's poor as hell and then a second war and it all makes sense somehow. He writes to his wife who is also an orphan two days before the marriage "the next few years will bring us joy and content and love and sweetness such as could not be if we hadn't first been two homeless children and had found one another after long waiting" and, yes, yes! The love and sweetness just radiate from his work, the entire lotr series is a little radiant bubble of hope and love and grace that he imagined in his head to deal with a dismal reality and then he just gave that to the world, and isn't that what imagination and art is all about after all?
I'm rereading it now too (only my 2nd time) and you are exactly right. It's such a beautiful, hopeful story. I'm really tired of the anti-hero and so many morally grey characters in so much of modern media. That can be interesting but too much of it can be depressing. It's nice to have a story where people are sincerely good.

It was late and all Bilbo could think of was lying in his own bed back in Bag End, but the truth was he was lying on a bedroll that currently had pebbles and sticks jabbing at his back as he attempted to sleep. Since the journey began Bilbo was not sleeping well, he was too used to having a bed that was his own, and he missed it greatly. It was another one of his comforts of home he missed as well as his books, his garden, his armchair, and his food. While traveling with dwarfs a whole lot of em were told by Balin they had to ration their food, which resulted in Bilbo eating a lot less food than he was used to.
Though he was grateful, the dwarves did not need to invite him on their journey, it was not as though there was anything waiting for him once they reached their destination, there was for the others. Which caused him mild discomfort because he really didn't belong, this was not his journey, Erebor was not for him to reclaim and it was not his people who were suffering without a home. It was the dwarves, it was their journey, not Bilbo's.

Liv awoke, sighing in soft delight as the gorgeous interior of the bedchamber met her eyes. It was even more beautiful than in the rush and activity last night, when she and Thorin had entered it hurriedly.
A flush bloomed across her cheeks as she remembered last night; memories of soft furs and tangled sheets, heated skin, a rough yet silken beard and heated kisses on practically every inch of her skin, and iron hard muscles, coupled with sapphire eyes that she’d drowned in, again and again, flitted through her mind in pleasurable fashion. That and the faint yet pleasant twinge down there that fluttered when Liv shifted lazily under the furs and blankets.
Thorin certainly was as passionate a lover as he was a warrior, she thought. Yet he was so tender afterwards; he’d asked if she felt pain (not too much), helped her clean up, and then drew her close as they fell asleep. Speaking of which- he wasn’t in bed with her. His place beside her was yet warm.
“He probably has his royal duties to perform today,” Liv thought, preparing to curl up for a leisurely long nap, something she’d never had as a barmaid long ago, before touching a Dwarf’s fingers awoke her Heart’s Mark, and brought her to Erebor as his wife.
The doors opened suddenly, and Liv’s Mark thrummed pleasantly. “Thorin,” she exclaimed as she sat up. He was dressed simply in tunic and breeches, yet Liv could clearly remember his muscular body from last night; she flushed prettily at the memory.
“Good morning, my One.” Thorin set down the tray he bore, and looked upon Liv with delight and pleasure. Arousal surged through him when he noted her bare shoulders above the blankets; clearly she’d not bothered to hunt for another nightgown yet. He made a mental note to send down to Dori regarding new nightclothes for Liv.
“Good morning,” Liv said, “I thought you had royal duties to perform this morning.”
“Balin and Dwalin told me that my duties are with you first, my love; Dwalin literally told me ‘go back to be with yer wife. It’s yer wedding week.’” Liv giggled merrily at Thorin’s attempted imitation of his guardsman and cousin. “I did stop by the kitchens on my way back; Bombur sends his kindest regards to you- and he sent breakfast along with me.”
“Oh. Breakfast in bed?” Liv was speechless. She had never, even in her wildest dreams, had thought of breakfast in bed. Only the sick and weakened ever ate their meals in bed.
“Yes, Amrâlimê. It is a custom of the Royal Family to enjoy their breakfasts in their rooms.” He set up the plates and cups. “Do not worry about the dishes; the servants will be by to pick them up later.” He handed her a soft woolen robe trimmed with fur. “It wouldn’t do for the future Queen under the Mountain to catch a chill while enjoying her breakfast.”
Liv couldn’t agree more; the Lonely Mountain was cooler inside than what she was used to.
They sat together on their bed and ate leisurely, savoring every bit of the sausages, eggs, and hotcakes with syrup drizzled over them, along with some hot breakfast tea that Thorin said was imported from the Shire.
When they’d finished, Liv was setting their plates onto the tray carefully when “You have some syrup on your lip, Amrâlimê, from eating your cakes,” Thorin observed, enjoying how Liv’s cheeks bloomed.
“Ooh. I am a little sloppy sometimes.” She was reaching for a napkin. Thorin’s hand gripped it gently halfway. “No. Allow me, my love” The little sharp intake of breath and a smile as she realized what he was about to do, was encouraging.
Moving close beside her, he cupped her cheek with one large hand while the other drifted down to clasp her waist. Drawing Liv’s face closer, Thorin paused long enough to admire her sparkling eyes before taking her lip between his in a seductive manner. It was indeed sweetened, before it disappeared under his heated ministrations. Liv gasped, then she was responding back with an equally passionate kiss of her own, her fingers lacing through his dark waves. With a growl, Thorin laid her down upon the bed, his kisses slowly becoming slower and deeper.
Then he rose up on his elbows above Liv. “It’s clean now, my love.”
“And you did well in cleaning my lip,” Liv smiled, combing her fingers through Thorin’s hair, loving how he leaned into her hands. She sighed. “I suppose now that we must get up and dress- unless you don’t want to.”
“I would not.” Thorin rotated his hips every so slightly against Liv’s, noting how she moaned softly. She clearly wanted him so badly. “According to my Burglar, there was a custom called ‘second breakfast’ in the Shire.” His voice died down to a seductive rumble. “I would like to enjoy a second time with you, Amrâlimê, to show you how much I love you.”
“Then, let us love again.”
