I have spent the weekend with my blood.

Their wings are rough and heavy, the years tearing them just as they have mine. Despite the snarl of teeth their words never burn. Their scales glimmer with the same colors as mine, and the talons we share rest gently against anothers as we chirp and trill softly to each other.

Half to the 19th hour of the day, we use wheels to travel to my roost. There my hoard resides, and maybe that should make it feel like home, but it never has.

The beings there are made of flesh so tender that the slightest curl of my lip draws blood from skin my teeth had never reached.

They have no wings, and mine must be bound as if to soothe an ache they shoulder from the lack of weight upon their back.

Teeth so dull has never stopped their words from tearing off the scales that give me my delicate glimmer of truth, clawless hands shredding the already worn flesh to keep me on ground I so desperately wish to soar far away from.

They are not my blood, no matter how much of them flows through me. My blood has never drawn pain from my crime of existence. My roost lacks a warm laugh I had begun to believe I'd never know.

Someday my hoard and my home will be one in the same.

My hatchling will never know the deceitful tongue that speaks words of love with the hiss of hate.

But today I bind my wings. I dull my scales. I do not curl my lip to even breathe. Today I survive.

Tomorrow, in a world I do not yet know, I thrive.
