i’d like to apologize in advance for anything isa says or does during the course of this rp, she is an actual mess™

she’s like the really trashy love child of leslie knope and ben wyatt?? mostly their bad sides lmao??? she too would be referred to as a human disaster on national tv

yeah okay so!!! she’s a descendant of the part of the potter family that moved to america ages ago, so until she transferred to hogwarts in her fourth year she didn’t know the other potters?? like obviously she knew of them what with harry saving the wizarding world and all, but they hadn’t met each other before. she’s an only child with no close cousins so like meeting the potters and the huge fam that comes with them was kind of like ………………… wait what for her and she’s still like??? doubt we’re actually related sorry can’t live up to you all

but yeah it was just her & her parents growing up and she was quite close to them when she was younger, but her dad is a politician ( now the president of the magical congress of the us ---- or, well, was, before the world went to hell ) and her mother is a healer, and they’re both just really ambitious, hardworking people so they didn’t have a lot of time to dedicate to their home life?? and when isa went off to boarding school they drifted further apart, so at this point they honestly don’t know each other that well?? and tbh they’re not bad parents per say, if you don’t count how focused on their careers they are rather than supporting her, it’s just that they’re both so focused and confident i don’t think they ever consider that isa might,,, not be?? and she really, really isn’t. her self-worth is so low and confidence is basically nonexistent, and when she’s nervous or struggling a lot with anxiety she tends to ramble a lot, which her parents just interpreted as her being talkative rather than there being an underlying reason for it, and basically there was just… a lot of misunderstanding between them? like isa still loves them, but whenever she was home she just didn’t feel good, and she hates herself for it because they are good people, but she just doesn’t know how to change that??

somehow did not end up nearly as charismatic or smart or anything as her parents tho and is just a mess™ so she mostly introduces herself only with her first name and tries to like not think of the fact that that her dad held such an important position bc she doesn’t want to bring more embarrassment to the family than she already has lmao 

she really wants to make her parents proud and everything and tries to behave properly she’s just ??? failing epically. always finds a way to embarrass herself and put her foot in her mouth and once it happens her pride kicks in and she just makes it worse and worse because she can’t just admit that she did something wrong so she just continues to dig her own grave like every second conversation it’s amusing to watch but she’s just a tragic mess

in a world where zombies did not run rampant, she would eventually become an author when she’s older but a) that dream is dead now like much else and b) what she's been writing in her teenage years is some truly trashy, unhealthy romance novels yikes but she’s still young and learning so there is hope still 

but yeah with her father being the president and her mother out there literally saving lives she was like i gotta do something good with mine!!! and before the zombie apocalypse began she didn’t see becoming an author as good enough in comparison, so decided to study to become a healer like her mom after she graduated hogwarts but like,,, it’s so not the right career choice for her so even if the zombie apocalypse hadn’t occurred before she even had much of a chance to try it out, she probably would have dropped up halfway through training

when anything remotely bad happens she’s like this is THE worst thing that has ever happened to me in my entire life and i cannot show my face ever again so basically,,, the ppl in her life are probably used to her Dramatic self by now. tho i guess now that there is an actual apocalypse going on, everything sort of is the worst thing that’s ever happened in her life?? anyways 

isa is so heart eyes for romance but her view of it is………… really bad lmao and romanticised and so many of her favourite ships are unhealthy af which could help explain why sometimes her taste in men is too bad to even think about

in terms of the zombie apocalypse and the war she just wants to cry tbh she just!!! does not wanna deal with it!!! does not wanna die!!!! and she finds the whole thing goddamn terrifying, with good reason. isa had graduated pretty recently and was still getting used to that Adult Life™ when the outbreak began, but she managed to get to hogwarts fairly quickly and has been there for eight months now. her parents insisted on her staying at hogwarts until the outbreak had been contained and she could safely return home. as we all know, that did not happen, but the situation just spread and got worse. with the quarantine set in place, isa's fears just spiked even more, because there was no way she could get to her parents. although she never would have left the family she found at hogwarts, especially her best friend riley hayes-goldstein, the fact that she no longer had any choice in the matter honestly freaked her out a lot. with communications down for the most part, she has lost all contact with her parents, and currently has no idea whether they are still alive and safe somewhere. isa has a habit of over thinking things and panicking, so she's trying not to think about it too much so she can just focus on surviving where she is herself.

so yeah, isa has been working as a supply runner since she arrived at hogwarts. she's a fairly quick runner, and she does want to do something that makes a difference for the people there so she can make her parents proud, wherever they are, but half the reason why she applied for it is because she doesn't know what other job she could do that would actually be useful. like i said before, in a world that wasn't a Mess™ she would be studying to become a healer right now, but that job would not be well-suited for her anyway and i do think part of her knew that all along, hence why she didn't apply for that here, besides her lack of experience. she's scared out of her mind every time she goes on a supply run, but she has riley with her and she's never alone, so she figures she will be okay in the end.

[ DEATH TW ] so albus was adopted by the potters when he was only one. his birth parents, a halfblood couple from london, were murdered in their home one night when al was just a baby; the result of a past affair gone wrong. whether he was left alive because he was a merely child or because the murderer didn’t realize he was asleep upstairs remains unclear, but he was the only one still alive when the team of aurors arrived, among them harry potter. unfortunately, albus had no other living relatives that could take him in, and his situation hitting close to home for harry, he and ginny made the decision to adopt him. at the time, ginny was already pregnant with lily, and although they fostered albus during that time, it wasn’t until after lily was born that the adoption officially went through. albus full name is albus remus potter here sorry not sorry i don’t make the rules, albus is bad enough as it is!!! the world may be going to hell in this verse but at least we can have one (1) improvement!!!!!

so yeah, al grew up with the potters from a young age, and is just so grateful to have been adopted by them. while he has sometimes wondered what his birth parents were like and what his life would have looked like had they lived --- really, who wouldn’t? --- al loves the live he’s been given and wouldn’t change it for the world. he’s never once had to doubt the love of his parents or siblings --- it’s clear in their every action --- and the same can be said for al. he loves them more than anything in the world, and really would do anything for them. 

when it came time for al to go to hogwarts, he was quite nervous about his sorting, but quickly found that slytherin really was the right fit for him. he’s ambitious, resourceful and holds a great deal of self-preservation, and his house helped him hone in on his skills and develop them. he was a really hard-working student and often at the top of his class, though he never made prefect, something he’s more bitter about than he’d like to admit tbh.

growing up, al was quite an observant child and quickly became interested in politics and the way the world worked. somewhat cynical, he couldn’t help but notice the flaws in the system more so than the things they got right, and felt that he had to do something to make the world a little bit better than it was when he entered it; just do whatever he could. his family have been subjected to countless powerpoint presentations about things he would improve and correct, often with the help of his best friend jane longbottom. ( let me tell you, the fact that al can’t whip up a powerpoint to make a point anymore is something he considers one of the biggest tragedies. also, the loss of the sims. ) 

after he graduated hogwarts, he got an internship in the ministry which eventually led to a full-time job in the department of international magical cooperation. he knew he had a long way to go and a lot to learn, but his goal was one day to become minister for magic so he could improve life in wizarding britain for its citizens. suffice to say, that goal kind of ended when the government collapsed --- but he still wants to do what he can to help make a difference at hogwarts. 

the outbreak of the war was something which terrified him tbh, though he still chose to join the order alongside his family, but part of him just wanted to run in the other direction. like i’ve mentioned earlier, he’s a bit cynical, and so he was like of course the death eaters didn’t learn anything from the past and are trying this shit again even tho they’ve always lost --- but he never in his life would have expected them to raise the inferi in hopes of winning. it was like something straight out of a nightmare, one of his biggest fears come to life. 

albus joined his family at hogwarts early on in the outbreak, and has been there for eight months now. since most leadership positions and those in the makeshift council required one to be over 25 years old, he decided to join the division of research as a potioneer, where he felt he could make the most useful difference. potions was his best class in hogwarts, and tutored quite a few students himself, so it was a division he could have a positive influence in. 

although albus for the most part is a fairly confident person, one of his biggest insecurities is that he sees himself as a coward, as he'd much rather hide away than fight if he could ( part of the reason why he's helping out in the potions department rather than taking an active role outside like his siblings ). however, he also sometimes considers himself as the only level-headed one in the family. let me tell you, he is Highkey Stressed™ that one of his family members will do something very heroic but also stupidly reckless one day and get themselves killed. although he deeply admires their bravery and compassion for others, he also really admires them alive, and would rather not have zombies for family members, thank you very much. 

he tries to be optimistic and believe that one day they’ll find a cure and be able to rebuild their society from the rubble they’re left with, and he’ll continue working towards that goal for as long as he can, but at the same time he finds it hard not to let his cynical and overthinking nature get the best of him. 

but yeah, to sum him up, he’s got that Potter Sass™ and can be a pain sometimes, but he’s quite friendly and charismatic and he’s got a good head on his shoulders. he’s is really just trying to make sure that all of his family members make it out of this alive at this point

“Oh my god,” Molly groused. “An alarm was not the wedding reception soundtrack I was hoping for.” Personally, she was mightily indignant on Hagrid’s behalf; he was the loveliest person in the whole world, probably, and she thought he and Olympe deserved the best day ever, and instead-—this?! “If it turns out someone did this intentionally,” she said, sounding right put out about the terrible turn of events on a day of love and celebration, and perhaps not quite as concerned as one should feel at the idea that the wards were deteriorating when there were zombies possibly waiting around, “I’m going to stomp on their feet with my scary heels, I’m so mad.” She didn’t even feel particularly bad about the idea of breaking their feet.

‘Are your scary heels an effective weapon against zombies, too? Just in case, you know, they try to eat our faces off.’ Isa was fairly certain she was close to hyperventilating. The longer the alarm blared across the room, the more frightened she got --- if it truly was a prank, wouldn’t it turn off quickly? She tugged at the collar of her dress, feeling as if the material was getting tighter and tighter. She wasn’t certain if being locked in the Great Hall was a good or a bad thing; if it didn’t keep the zombies out, if Hogwarts wasn’t safe anymore, where was she expected to run? Generally, Hogwarts was the place she always ran to at any signs of danger. ‘This is it. I’m gonna have a heart attack. Eighteen and died of a heart attack --- not even an actual zombie! Merlin, I can’t do this,’ she said, and dropped her face into her hands, elbows propped onto one of the tables.

Dorian had long since discarded his dress robes, opting for the more functional muggle clothing underneath, and tucked a few more essentials away—-potions, shrunken and attached to his belt, an ax—-just in case—-on his back, and a knife secured against his thigh. Those, plus his wand, meant he was ready to go an assess the damage to the wards—-starting with those closest to his own rooms, where he knew Jacqueline was. As he traversed the hallways closer to the area the wards had been breached, ears alert, he could already hear—-there were definitely inferi in their midst. Hearing a step behind him, he spun around, wand out and curse nearly on his lips until he recognized the very much alive person in front of him. “Shit—”

‘Just me,’ Eli said, holding up her hands as a sign of peace. ‘Sorry, should have announced myself.’ The sound of inferi was louder here, and her lips pressed into a thin line once it dawned on her what it meant, eyes sweeping across the hallway for signs of a threat. ‘Shit, they really breached the wards,’ she muttered, tightening the hold of her gun. Eli wished she had more weapons on her, but she had planned on getting into her proper gear once the celebrations were over --- a mistake on her part, she realized. There was no time to let your guard down during the apocalypse. ‘How extensive do you reckon the breach is?’

Got a patrol shift coming up after the reception --- while some would jump at the chance of some alcohol, I’d rather have a clear head while keeping an eye out for zombies. But it appears like its owner forgot about it, so, you know,’ she motioned toward the drinks, ‘pick your poison.’

“Let’s be really honest,” Valeria leaned against the wall, taking in the somewhat rustic decorations with an unimpressed eye, “We all know I’m here for the——oh, there we go!” A floating platter happened by, champagne flutes filled, but Valeria ignored them all in favor of swiping the bottle itself. “Perfect—–uh, I don’t think so. Get your own.”

The wind whipped against her cheeks as Nadia strode across the grounds—-a far cry from the well-kept lands of her own time at Hogwarts, she still wasn’t quite used to the sort of wildness that had spread over the grounds around the castle, but it did have its perks. Mainly, the small thicket of starthistle she knew to be just on the other side of what used to be the quidditch pitch. And while normally she’d wait, have someone bring her the plant she needed… even she needed a bit of fresh air sometimes, and this way her research wouldn’t have to wait. She stopped as she her destination, stopping down so deft fingers could pluck the plant in question from the grass. Though she was focused on her task, her mind remained alert, and she glanced over her shoulder, sensing a presence behind her.

“If you’re going to lurk, at least make yourself useful and hand me a vial.”

‘Wouldn’t dream of anything different,’ Albus said, providing Nadia with a vial without another word. He watched her work in silence for a few moments, before he swept a watchful gaze around them. Truth be told, he didn’t understand how his family headed outside on supply runs so often, seemingly without another thought; Albus was on edge enough by just entering the castle grounds. Still, he wasn’t going to just stand by and watch Nadia wander out alone. ‘Now, I know better than to try to lecture you, but maybe next time, I don’t know, tell someone before you head out? Safety in numbers, and all that. While we’re here, though, do you want to search for more potion supplies or just grab this one and go?’

The journey had be long and treacherous but it seemed that this safe castle ( she couldn’t really call it a house, now could she? ) held a lot more than she had hoped for. Sure there was plenty of food, a warm bed, hot water but there was just something that made her feel uneasy about it all. Albus nearly dropped the box of potions supplies he’d been bringing to the dungeons at the sound of the familiar voice, simply gaping at her for a few moments before he managed to react. ‘Holy --- Celeste. You’re alive? You’re --- here.’ Albus blinked at her for a few more moments before putting the box gently on the ground, eyes sweeping over her in an attempt gauge her condition. ‘How badly are you hurt? I should take you to the healers. --- Or maybe to get you some fresh and clean clothes first. How hungry are you? Have you seen Lily and James yet?’ Albus forced himself to stop talking, holding up his hands as a sign of peace. ‘Merlin, sorry --- being bombarded with questions is probably the last thing you need right now. You’re gonna have to be more specific with that description, though; practically half the castle fit that bill.’

‘See, the best thing about - nay, the whole point of - graduating was the fact that I wouldn't have to deal with with these moving stairs ever again, and now that isn't even the case. Like, I bet on my life that when my time comes it's not even gonna be because of the zombie apocalypse, it's gonna be at the hands of these stairs from hell. ....At the --- steps of these stairs from hell? I --- whatever, point is, I'm not using them again. Ever. I am staying right here. In this very spot. Forever --- or, I mean, till my next supply run, but. Forever, sort of.’

Dusk was quickly approaching, and Ozzy quickly made his way through the maze of tents pitched on the grounds and towards the castle walls. He didn’t know why the darkness unsettled him so much - they were zombies, not vampires, after all. He could only imagine if vampires were real, too. His face grimaced in distaste at the thought for a moment before he heard a rustling behind him. He paused mid-step. “Was it… you who made that noise?” Ozzy slowly turned to ask the nearest clearly human person, his tone bleakly hopeful.

‘No, it was you. I mean, I thought it was you --- you sure it wasn’t?’ Isa asked, hopeful, though he clearly wouldn’t have asked the question if it had been. She tugged at her sleeves, eyes sweeping quickly across the grounds, but she couldn’t identify what had made the noise. ‘Maybe it was a rabbit?’ She didn’t dare mention that the rustling had clearly been caused by something bigger than a mere rabbit, and instead just moved closer to Ozzy, hoping for safety in numbers. ‘I don’t think we have rabbits here, technically, but there’s a first time for everything, so, it’s not, like, impossible,’ she rambled. ‘Wanna head back to the castle just in case, though?’

eli grew up in a family of three, with her mother and older sister charlene. her father left when she was only three years old, so she never had any memories of him, and at this point she’s honestly far past caring or thinking about him ( though when she was younger she spent a lot of time wondering where he was and why he left ). thankfully enough, her mother had steady job that paid well enough that the economic hit they took when he left wasn’t devastating, though it meant she could spend less time with her daughters than she would have liked. this caused both eli and her sister to be raised to be very independent and look after themselves, something they found very useful once the zombie breakout started.

honestly she comes from a pretty no nonsense family, so even as a child she never really believed in magic and such? her mother shut down those kinds of ideas when she was very young because she thought they were a waste of time, so eli would just roll her eyes or scoff at kids who did believe in it

suffice to say, she was left reeling when magic was revealed and the zombie breakout began. not only were they suddenly all in danger, but wixen and werewolves and even dragons existed, and tbh she still hasn’t wrapped her mind around that. her attitude is survive now, process later, so she tries to compartmentalise her thoughts and emotions so she can just focus on getting by each day

but yeah the whole situation is obviously terrifying, and though she tries not to think on it too much and just focus on the actions of surviving so to speak, a part of her is still waiting to wake up from this messed up dream and go back to the real world where magic doesn’t exist and things are actually logical

[ death tw ] initially, eli and her family refused to leave their home in glasgow. honestly, her attitude was like clean this mess tf up @ the wizards, but as the riots began and the infection spread, they realized that their chances of survival would be too low if they stayed where they were. towards the end of april, they packed up their supplies and left for cover in rural areas. unfortunately, their mother was killed in a zombie attack in may, trying to hold the zombie off so her daughters could escape. eli and charlene were left to fend for themselves, but as with most things, eli tried to put her emotions aside and focus on getting to safety. there would be time to grieve later, but first they had to survive. they had heard rumours of a safe haven in hogwarts, but since wizards were the ones who caused the zombie breakout in the first place, eli didn’t trust them enough to go there for help at this point, especially so soon after her mother’s death.

eli and charlene tried to survive on their own, moving from small town to small town, trying to find somewhere to settle down. she almost got used to the movements of it, but then they suffered an attack they barely got out of alive. eli couldn’t believe how lucky they were - that is, until charlene broke out into a high fever. eli tried to care for her sister, not realizing ( or wanting to realize ) what it meant. it was luck alone that got her out of the situation alive: another muggle heading towards hogwarts come across them, and killed charlene on sight before she could attack either one of them. eli almost killed the muggle in return, before she slowed down and actually looked at her sister’s body, and saw the reality of it without the glamour in place. reluctantly, she joined forces with the other muggle, who she learned was named oscar pettigrew, since she realized that her chances of survival on her own were pretty low at this point. since they didn’t know exactly how to find hogwarts, it was quite a journey before they reached it, but they eventually reached hogwarts in august when they ran into a group of wizards and muggles out on a supply run. [ end of death tw ]

she’s used to being quite independent and doing things her own way, so she’s not always the best at teamwork or cooperating with others. that’s part of the reason why she became a guard once she reached hogwarts, honestly; she wasn’t really comfortable with leaving the protection up to others when she didn’t really know who of them she could trust

this goes especially for wizards; eli’s quite wary of their existence. she’d been taught in no uncertain terms that they weren’t real growing up, so even if magic had been revealed under more peaceful circumstances, it would have taken her some time to wrap her head around it. since the death eaters caused the zombie apocalypse, though, she’s a lot more distrustful of them. she’s not sure what they’re capable of, and in many ways she feels like they’re playing with forces that should be out of their hands. as horrible as it might sound, seeing wizards die and be infected has made her a bit more trusting towards them, though - it makes her feel like there’s not that many differences between them, and that magic might not actually give them that much of an unfair advantage
