NO… the dudes that directed the cowboy bebop and one piece live actions for netflix announced that theyve linked back up with watanabe to spin the block again😭😭 watanabe was understandably very displeased with how the bebop live action came out along with the rest of the world lol but i guess he saw how successful the one piece live action has been due to how closely its creator is working with the directors and was willing to give them another chance so long as he also gets to be very involved.
and like im fine with that so long as he is working with them closely but there are even things i as a one piece fan have issues with regarding its live action lmfao… ive always had a very specific vision of how id want a samcham live action to look and i just cant imagine a real one being anywhere near it so idk how satisfied ill be. like ive always envisioned something super inspired by kurosawa films along with beautiful color grading similar to kwaidan 1964 lol.
Plus im VERY worried about who theyll be casting for mugen specifically. as he is an indigenous ryukyuan character and is also intentionally black coded. according to reports ive read theyll be keeping it mostly the same (allegedly) but will be updating certain things to make it “appeal” to modern audiences??? whatever that means lol. i just personally dont think samcham SHOULD be updated for modern audiences. at its core its a very early 2000s show. down to aesthetics and dialogue and jokes and whatever. it literally aired on toonami for adult swim. if it means theyll be getting rid of the fan service i guess id be willing to take that bargain lmfao
