Comment:I have been a fan of this story since the very first day. Prison AUs have always been a treasured trope in any fandom, I think, and this story gives us plenty UST and cramped situations that leave the boys unable to fully escape from confrontation. Unlike the other Hiddlesworth prison fics that are out there, this story is truly a standalone for the reversal of certain clichés that appear. Who has the tattoos. Who appears to be the more emotionally vulnerable one. And, of course, there is just a bit of asshole!Tom in this one, which brings me endless delight. I would also like to mention that this is a bit of a slow burn fic, but it is endlessly beautiful for the world building and endless amounts of angst that come with it.

Summary: Tom, a former member of the British Expeditionary Force finds himself back in London after the evacuation of Dunkirk. Suffering of shell shock, he is forced on leave and meets a member of the Royal Australian Air Force…Chris Hemsworth. They both form a friendship in the devastating times of WWII, where conflicting feelings arise that were forbidden and taboo. Tom fears the day when Chris will be assigned to go into the battlefield.

Comment: The amount of tears I shed whenever I read this could fill a bathtub at this point. This story does deal with some heavy stuff. PTSD is brought up as well as a lot of anxiety issues over sexual orientation. But it is beautiful none the less when they both realize what their relationship means to the other and how they come to heal and love each other. And it’s still not over! So I eagerly await the next chapter as always.

Comment: Tooth rotting fluff in a bakery no less! It’s a perfect combination! There is mutual pining and longing stares. And then there’s the assistant Dave who is bitter and nosy and just so wonderful that I wonder why Tom puts up with at all. Definitely one of my favourites.

Comment: Alma’s beautiful fics get me every time. Especially when they follow the rubric of cold and slightly distant Tom with warm and affectionate Chris. I fall for it so hard, and she writes it so well! This one has been up in my top favourites for a while now. How Tom comes to trust Chris and they both learn that they are desirable despite their own thoughts on how they appear to others.

Comment: Roryheadmav has been a favoured author of mine since I came to AO3 and Tumblr. This fic has been a favoured one of mine for a while now. I love anything that deals with Ancient Rome and Gladiators because that scenario is a treasure trove. Just so you know, this one does really get into the whole historical aspect so Chris and Tom go by other names (Chris=Mashiach Ben-Alharon and Tom=Didymus Gallio). Never the less, they don’t lose anything by having different names. And the way they come to trust each other and love each other is tender and wrought full of pain and misunderstanding.
