you remember the little things, huh? sometimes love comes in just the right amount of sugar in their coffee, or knowing exactly how they customize their food at fast food restaurants, or being able to order for them at restaurants while they're in the bathroom. you're a friend to count on because you pay attention to the details, even if they don't seem to matter much to anyone else. it's a nice surprise to come back to the table and find out that your ideal order is already waiting for you without you having to say anything in the first place. even if they don't say so directly, know your friends appreciate that you're that type of person. after all, it's the details that matter, and you've got them tucked safely away in your mind, ready to show how much you “care.”

The dark colors, Bill can handle ( beyond a reasonable doubt ), but when he sees those ruby-red racing stripes, he HAS to look -- look until his eye hurts, the color feeling like it has been burned into his pupil. He's forced to look upwards, of course: the hedgehog could be said to be short by OTHERS’ standards, but to Bill, a Flatlander just under six inches tall at his uppermost angle, he’s HUGE.
Despite the difference, he clearly has no fear ( or, at least, a lack of self-preservation ) as his little hands reach up, up, UP, to grasp at what he can of the fur of his shin, nearly having to stand on top of his shoe to do so.
“WHAT,” Bill asks ( demands ), pupil nearly swallowing up his sclera with wonder, tiny fingers pulling at the red striped fur trailing up the side of Shadow’s leg, “is THIS color?”

Eyes narrow as years of hastily bottled up and unresolved anger and anxieties come bubbling to the surface ( literally, apparently ) but even despite the manifestation it still sits, suffocatingly so, in his chest. Okay, okay, just THINK ( and breathe ) : if he’s here, then he has to be STUCK somewhere else…right? But even in here, COULD he fight him off this time… alone, without Mabel?
He ignores ( or pretends to, at least ) the somewhat accurate comments about his mental state — the proof found in the heaps of boxes of unorganized memories filling the attic…and in a rather precarious manner, at that. But it’s the last comment that finally gets under his skin, as his hands ball into fists, face feeling quite flush, “ In what world do you think I would ever make ANY kind of deal with you? ”
“You’re putting WORDS in my GNARLED CHASM of a MOUTH, KID!”
Bill laughs, & laughs, & LAUGHS, like he always does. It bounces off the walls & leaves the concocted space they share suffocating, even more so with the rumbling bubbles of panic, popping like dribbling magma --
His fingers snap, & the manifestation fizzes away, like a steadying pop soda after being cracked open, dying upon being exposed to air.
“I didn’t say HEADS or TAILS about any DEALS -- ALL I said was I’d HELP YOU clean out your subconscious!”
His thin, wiry hand reaches out to the side, a mop made out some sort of writhing tendrils, tinged pink & translucent like flesh, materializing into the air, Bill’s grip clasped around the handle.
“So TOUCHY, Pine Tree -- you NEVER CHANGE, do you?” Bill scoffs, as if he’s the one who’s been wronged by Dipper’s inhospitality. “Not even a HELLO?” Voice beginning to warp, it now mimics Dipper’s, an echoed layer over it. “WOW, NICE TO SEE YOU AGAIN, IT’S BEEN SO LONG SINCE I MADE A PATHETIC ATTEMPT AT KILLING YOU!” Bill’s voice tapers off, warbling, bordering on angry, but he only sweeps with the peculiar mop, wiping up the bubbles, sticky with emotion, even -- comically -- beating a few back down like pests to be driven off.

“PRAY TELL, Brainiac — how would I even GET HERE? This is PROBABLY just your PATHETIC SUBCONSCIOUS’ ATTEMPT at a RECONCILIATION!”
Bill comes across as relatively calm for an entity in the presence of the man who’s hands were responsible for his assumed death. Well -- technically, it’d been Stanley’s FIST, but that was besides the point. Maybe calm wasn’t the right word. It was rare that he spoke in a voice lower than a yell, like if he didn’t shout you wouldn’t hear him ( you would hear him ), much less appeared pacified.
“Or MAYBE, just MAYBE, you ... MISSED me?”
Roaring with laughter, Bill clutches at his angles, bricks coming apart as it comes out in shrill, stifled fits. That’s new, but he doesn’t seem deterred. His cackle shakes the walls of the dream, rumbling like a mild-mannered earthquake, before it stops, & Bill lowers himself to be at eye-level with Stanford.
“Don’t BLAME YOURSELF, FORDSY.” Bill’s eye crinkles with mirth, though it is not without a sinister undertone.
“I’d MISS ME too!”
