some general chemistry revision notes for our final exam!! been preparing for like ages for this test, and i hope it’s worth it!!!
34/100 days of productivity · so this semester has been really rough so far and i’m just hoping that this week will be a better week for me. i’m juggling with 5 classes, work, student practicum, and 3 important exams that i need to take before the end of this month to get into student teaching next year. one of these exams is 4 hours long which i’m really dreading.
i’m trying to remind myself to do the best that i can every day and not to worry about my future so much, but i always feel like i’m constantly living in fear and i feel completely alone going through all of this. but despite feeling this way, i also tell myself that i’m really brave for continuing to work hard in everything that i do.

hi to all my fellow filipino users who are planning on taking the UPCAT!! to cut the long story short, the UPCAT has a filipino portion (in the language proficiency and reading comprehension sections, if i’m not mistaken? not sure about science and math, also not sure about other CETs) and i’m not good at filipino. for those in the same boat, all we can do at this point is study, pero paano ba yun???
different things work for different people but here are some tips and techniques to keep in mind:
obviously review the basics of filipino, get a good handle of the basics and the tricky parts (such as ng vs nang, subukin vs subukan, etc.)
read read read! read something every day. your brain will get used to reading filipino and this will help you familiarize yourself with vocabulary, grammar, and structure
if you encounter a new word/idiom/saying/etc., i suggest writing it down and using it in a sentence or something. enrich your vocabulary kasi you never know, baka makachamba ka you might encounter that in the UPCAT
don’t know what to read? try these:
buod ng noli me tangere/el filibusterismo [1, 2, 3] (or the actual books if you want but remember you have to be practical because kulang tayo sa oras)
various pieces of filipino lit from kapitbisig [link]
news articles written in filipino [1, 2]
use reviewers and practice tests! treat these tests as the actual exam with time limit and all; train yourself so you know how to actually take the filipino portions. once again your brain will get used to reading filipino and most importantly using test taking techniques to figure out the answer (see below)
you can buy reviewers at the bookstore (alam ko meron sa national bookstore), secondhand, or you can borrow from your friends
you can look for resources on the internet. maraming kumakalat sa twitter (not only for filipino!! marami sa math, science, english, etc.) hehe i can send you some google drive links kung wala kang twitter just drop an ask
i have msa reviewers and may filipino section naman, not sure about other brands though so do check prior to purchasing anything
test taking techniques! unfortunately, it’s impossible to cram all the words in the filipino language and their meanings into your head so there’s a very high chance that pagdating ng UPCAT you will run across some words that you haven’t encountered before. this is when knowing how to make an educated guess comes in handy
context!!! clues!!! especially sa vocabulary. don’t guess blindly; base your answer on how the word is used, on the mood of the sentence/paragraph, etc.
elimination!!! most of the time but not always, kung similar ang 2-3 choices, di sila ang tamang sagot (not always to ha!!! isip isip parin kasi minsan may mga tricky talaga na set of choices). tapos if sure kayo na mali ang isang sagot, nakakataas yan ng chance na maguess mo ng maayos from the remaining choices, so practice elimination it’s a good test taking habit
that’s all for now huhuhu language proficiency and reading comprehension is where reviewing gets a little more vague eh huhuhu pero kaya natin to!!! basta maging masipag and study smart!!! i hope makatulong tong post na to hihi more power and good luck to us!!!
